## What is Hone Training?

Hone is a strength-training tracker built for people who actually run programs and care about progressing. Log workouts in a clean, fast UI; let the app handle the math.

EVERY DAY
Open the Today tab to see what's on the program. Tap into Active Workout, log sets as you go, and Hone catches every PR the moment it happens. A floating rest timer keeps you on pace without making you watch a screen between sets.

REAL PROGRAMS
Build multi-week programs with day-by-day exercise prescriptions, then run them. Hone schedules each session, tracks where you are in the cycle, and applies your auto-progression rules to next week's load.

AUTO-PROGRESSION YOU CONTROL
Pick how a movement progresses — linear, double-progression, RPE-based — and Hone bumps the prescribed load when you hit your reps. No more guessing what to lift on Monday.

ANALYTICS THAT MATTER
- Estimated 1RM trends per exercise (formula configurable: Brzycki, Epley, Lombardi, or Lander).
- Volume by muscle group, week over week.
- Bodyweight tracking with rolling average.
- Full workout history in calendar and list views.

LIFTER-FRIENDLY DETAILS
- Plate calculator with your real plate inventory configured.
- 137 pre-loaded exercises, plus custom-exercise support.
- Export every workout as JSON, every set as CSV — your data, your call.
- Five themes: Iron Midnight, Cobalt Forge, Forest Carbon, Wine Studio, Paper Light.
- Optional rest-timer notifications.

PRIVACY BY ARCHITECTURE
Hone makes zero network calls. Everything you log stays on your iPhone in a local SwiftData store. There are no accounts, no logins, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party services of any kind.

Hone is currently in beta and will continue to be free during this beta release, with no in-app purchases.

If you want a tracker that respects your time, your training, and your privacy, Hone is built for you.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-05-16

NEW: Readiness on Today.

Wondering whether to push today or dial it back? Hone now reads HRV, resting heart rate, sleep, and respiratory signals from Apple Health, compares them against your 28-day baseline, and shows a single Readiness card on Today. Tap to see the breakdown.

• Daily check-in. One tap captures how energy, soreness, and sleep felt today. Stored locally in Hone — never sent anywhere.

• Suppressed-readiness nudge. If your readiness has been low for 3+ days, Hone surfaces a callout suggesting a deload — pairing nicely with the existing training-block deload banner.

• Privacy by architecture. HealthKit access is read-only; nothing is written back to Apple Health. Hone makes zero network calls — your readiness data lives entirely on your device.

You can grant or revoke Health access any time in Settings → Privacy → Health → Hone Training.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-05-02

A bunch of new ways to plan, log, and look back on your training.

• Three sample training programs to import as starting points: Push / Pull / Legs (3-day), Upper / Lower (4-day), and a 5-Day Body Part Split. Browse from the Programs tab and tap "Use this program" to get a fully editable copy.

• Apple Health integration. Settings → Apple Health → Connect, and Hone reads your latest bodyweight from Health and writes finished workouts to Health so they show up in your Activity rings. Off by default; flip the toggle when you want it. Hone never sends your data over the network.

• Per-set notes. Tap "Add note" below any set in Active Workout to capture how it felt, form cues, or anything else. Notes show up inline when you review the workout in History.

• Repeat workout. Tap a past workout in History → "…" menu → Repeat workout. Hone clones the exercise list with last session's weights pre-filled so you can start right away.

• Better Exercises tab. Filter the 137-exercise library by muscle group (matches primary or secondary, so "Back" surfaces deadlifts and rows). Sort by Name, Recently used, or Most logged. Tap Search or pull the list down to dismiss the keyboard.

• Smarter Today screen. The Start button is now a single + tap that asks whether you want your scheduled program day or a freestyle session. The "Last session" card shows the day name, when you trained, the top exercises, and total sets. The post-workout state celebrates the work instead of telling you it's a rest day.

• Programs editor improvements. New "?" help buttons explain Prescription, Load, and Progression. "Target weight" is now "Target load". Tap "Edit" to remove an exercise from a program day (you could only reorder before). Tappable rows now show a chevron so it's clear they open settings. Tapping into an exercise also shows its instructions inline so you can review form cues without leaving the prescription sheet.

• Volume by muscle, with secondary attribution. Profile gets a new "Volume totals by muscle" chart with a date-range picker (4 weeks to all time). Volume now credits secondary muscles — Bench Press credits chest fully and gives partial credit to triceps and shoulders. Adjust the share in Settings → Calculations.

• Notes overhaul. Recovery notes are now just "notes" — capture them any day, see today's notes inline on Today, browse them on Profile, and see indicators on the History calendar for days with notes.

• Plate inventory in your unit. The plate list now displays and edits in your preferred unit (lb or kg) instead of forcing kg. Tap any plate value to change it inline.

• Polish: tighter spacing on detail screens, larger calendar dots with a legend, clearer Settings (5 sections instead of 8), exercise detail pages now lead with instructions, and the Skip-exercise button uses an X icon instead of a forward-arrow.

• Accessibility: VoiceOver now reads every button and field correctly across Active Workout, Settings, Programs, and the Exercises tab. Decorative icons no longer announce themselves, set rows speak as a single element, and selected options report their state.

• Bug fixes: the Pounds-mode bar weight bug (was showing 99 lb instead of 45 lb) is fixed; the rest timer now stops when you finish or discard a workout; the post-workout summary screen no longer flickers; the Resume Workout button no longer gets covered by the in-progress banner.
