It is great that they do so many countries. When abroad, I disable my own SIM for roaming so it should use Honest Mobile only and have even made Honest Mobile the primary SIM. However, the coverage and ability to use apps is sporadic at best. The only reliability was on Wi-Fi when available and turning on my data roaming. That was in both France and the Caribbean. EDIT: changed 2 star to 4 star. Very helpful support agent Milo. My SIM was not working at all. Needed deleting and a new one to be installed in order to work. **Developer response:** Hey, sorry to hear this! Thanks! ### 2/5 — Poor data connection and speed *2026-05-27* Although on paper this looks ideal, I have found it to be very unreliable on both occasions I have used it for successive days in one country - most recently Morocco and Tunisia. Each time the signal just completely drops out for hours on end and when it returns it is slow beyond slow. Yes it is data capped in terms of speed but the overall experience is poor. I switched to another provider which cost more money but was significantly more reliable and faster. ### 2/5 — Not good *2026-05-03, version 4.2.9* Simply just does not work as well as they state it will. Tried it in Spain and it’s useless. It’s also useless at home in England. Not good. No resolution and from the support yet. Had to get another eSIM to keep ok roaming abroad. ### 3/5 — Backup only! *2026-03-15, version 4.2.4* This service does not work with VPN. Seems to work when it wants to. Not reliable enough if connectivity is a must. ### 3/5 — Does as intended, but the intention isn’t useful *2026-02-19, version 4.2.0* It works. And the value is there. But it’s kinda useless. Abroad none of my banking apps work on Honest, whereas they boot straight up on my Three GoRoam sim. And some apps/website types should just be added. You need to be able to look at random online forums whilst traveling, whether it be for tips, tricks or tourism notes and whatnot. Spotify should be included and apps like Snapchat are essential. Especially when traveling as the maps and when active feature are great whilst with a group that are separated. I ended up getting a Saily eSIM on this trip, as I couldn’t do so many basic things like backup google photos, book campsites on their websites and maps apps were patchy. I won’t be renewing, as my Three sim has never lost signal at home and for the few times I go abroad it’d work out cheaper spending a couple of quid on a use-all eSIM. ### 2/5 — Would be good it the app worked anywhere *2026-02-13, version 4.2.0* Google maps are Supposed to work in Antigua but doesn’t having to rely on download map. Instructions for iPhone make no sense ### 2/5 — Poor internet *2026-02-03, version 4.0.1* 4G / 5G was so slow it was useless for 95% of my trip to the US. Ended up not using my sim card at all ### 1/5 — Incompatible *2026-01-28, version 3.32.0* Would you trust a provider where it’s not compatible with Microsoft protection that uses a vpn. Not made clear upfront. ### 1/5 — App issues *2026-01-26, version 3.32.0* Keep getting emails telling me how many times I’ve used the sim. Can’t see it inside the app as publicised. Also help sections don’t work in the app at all. Poor show. ### 2/5 — Good in theory. Not in practice *2026-01-25, version 3.32.0* I bought this because I thought it might give me better service on the move (trains etc). It’s not really doing that, since it seems to take too long to switch between the main sim operator and Honest. In my experience, you have to actually have honest selected as the main cellular provider for it to actually be used, and then it’s annoying because honest won’t let you do a bunch of stuff, like Spotify and regular web browsing. I’m going to Vietnam next month so hope to get more use out of it there, where I will have my main cellular provider switched off. ### 1/5 — Terrible apparently 3 simple steps *2026-01-25, version 3.32.0* Tried downloading twice never worked wasted my time trying looking at all my settings don’t bother poor backup support requested refund ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-07-06* I got the smart sim in the hopes that it would augment the dreadful O2 network, unfortunately it keeps locking on to O2 and even if it didn’t I often have full signal on O2 so the smart sim never kicks in. If you have difficulty with your mobile network, switch as the smart sim is a good idea, however it is locked to select apps and data only. It needs to be improved so it can replace a standard sim and act as a main sim that uses SIP to forward calls to the app to allow calls on any network on a single number, and unrestricted data. **Developer response:** Hey, sorry to hear this! Thanks! ### 1/5 — Poor service and no option to contact *2026-04-21* Can’t even get onto the app. You sign up they take your money straight away and can’t even access the app. All you get is a log in link that takes to a green screen and does nothing. Can’t contact anyone all you can do is request a new link that does nothing!! I was going to try out the new smart E sim as I work away a lot and sick of bad reception but this seems to be the wrong way of doing it. I’ve seen their adverts for a while so I finally bit the bullet and I regret doing so!! ### 1/5 — Impossible *2026-03-23, version 4.2.4* It does not work can’t even make the sim work and I work with computers all day refunded with in 30 mins. Great idea does not work. ### 1/5 — eSIM *2026-02-15* Paid £45 for an eSIM from Honest Mobile as I travel regularly and thought it would be ideal when abroad. Unfortunately, despite following all iOS setup instructions exactly, the SIM verification process repeatedly failed. Support starts with chatbots that couldn’t fix the issue, and when it was eventually passed to a person, responses were extremely slow. After nearly three hours trying to activate a product I’d just paid for, I gave up and requested a refund. I’ve now been told the refund could take up to five days. Very disappointing experience — poor activation process and slow customer support. Everything takes more clicks and things I don’t want like tree planting are in the main menu. Like just show my smart sim usage, support options and refer a friend when I log in. Everything else is a waste of time. Also the Liquid Glass effect is horrid and the main nav doesn’t register clicks properly. ### 1/5 — A digital death trap *2026-02-03, version 4.0.1* If you’re considering Honest Mobile, do yourself a favor: take your cash, throw it into a shredder, and then walk into the woods. At least then you won’t be expecting a signal. Calling this company "Honest" is the greatest work of fiction since Grimms' Fairy Tales. "Dishonest Mobile" is the only name that fits this absolute wreckage of a service. The "Quantum Physics" Setup Unless you have a PhD in Quantum Physics and a side hustle in black-box decoding, you have zero chance of getting this "Smart SIM" to function. The setup process is a labyrinth of broken links, rejected activation codes, and "technical errors" that would make a 90s mainframe look sophisticated. It’s not "plug and play"; it’s "plug and pray." Gambling with Your Safety Using Honest Mobile is like throwing a pair of loaded dice in a rigged casino—except the house always wins and you’re left stranded in the cold. * The Vulnerability Factor: This isn't just a minor inconvenience; it’s dangerous. They market themselves as a "reliable backup," yet they routinely leave users—including vulnerable people—with absolutely zero service when it matters most. • The "Smart" Failure: Their proprietary tech is supposed to switch networks, but it has the situational awareness of a brick. It will happily sit on a "dead" network while you’re trying to call an emergency contact or navigate a dark street. A Carbon-Neutral Ghost Town They love to brag about their B Corp status and being "carbon negative." It’s easy to be carbon negative when your SIM cards don't actually transmit any data. It’s the ultimate "green" move: providing a service so utterly non-functional that it saves the planet by never actually working. The Verdict: Useless Rubbish This isn't a premium service; it’s overpriced electronic waste. You are paying a monthly subscription for the privilege of being frustrated. It is a glitchy, restrictive, and ultimately deceptive product that fails at its one and only job: keeping you connected. Don't walk away—run. Save your money, save your sanity, and go to a provider that actually provides a dial tone. ### 1/5 — Payments *2026-02-03, version 4.0.1* I cancelled my eSIM and removed it from my phone as I no longer required it anymore but they still keep taking payments every month via my Apple Pay yet I removed any payment method and they still telling me they can’t help me and won’t take it any further cause the email they need I deleted months ago so basically for 4 months has stolen money off me all be it a small amount there’s no humanity about this company I hope the founders and owners see this review I’m disgusted ### 1/5 — Great idea. Used it in different countries without problem, customer support is friendly. ### 5/5 — Just wow! *2026-03-06* I bought this before cruising the Caribbean, hoping to keep access to certain apps, without using my regular providers data charges. It has worked superbly. It will also help when in busy areas in UK where access is restricted by the volume of people accessing online, but that will just be a bonus. Heading to remote France in a couple of months so hopefully access will be better than our last visit. ### 5/5 — Very Pleased *2026-02-04* I have been using the Honest Mobile smart sim since Dec 25. I found it a little fiddly to set up but got there in the end. I bought it to ensure better coverage in the UK, which seems to be working well at the moment, cutting in as required. I am currently on holiday in France and have made my smart sim my primary sim and it is working excellently, using google maps for an 800 mile drive, I then switch back to my original sim when required, viewing those apps not covered. WhatsApp calls working very well. Can’t understand the negativity shown by some people. It does exactly as advertised. It has worked flawlessly and I am absolutely delighted with it. No need to get a local SIM or a new eSIM for every new country I visit.
