### 2/5 — Terrible

*2023-09-08*

App says I am not connected to a network when I clearly am. I have deleted and reinstalled the app and I get the same message. Now it is not loading any stories or content. Screen is blue and blank. Very disappointed.

### 2/5 — Completely absurd beeps!

*2022-08-05, version 2.2.17*

I’ve had this for a year and use it on and off. The one thing that frustrates me every time is that wherever the app content ends, the band will beep at me! Really! This is supposed to be a sleep device and I keep getting woken up by the band beeping when the content finishes.

**Developer response:** The bip came from the headband when it turned off. It was a default that has been corrected since.

### 2/5 — Why Constantly Running in Background?

*2021-12-30, version 2.2.12*

The sounds in this app are great and I would love to use it however it is a severe battery hog. It constantly runs in the background and is the number one battery draining app on my phone. Why is it running in the background even when I’m not using it? Something seems off here. Deleting app because it is killing my phone’s battery. I don’t think a sound streaming app needs to be running in the background this much. Seems odd.

### 2/5 — Buggy app

*2021-12-22, version 2.2.12*

I love these headphones, the sound quality, and the mixes. The “perfect rain” is the first one I’ve that sounds real, and gives me the ASMR tingles. But, the app is super buggy. Sounds cuts out all the time, it stops playing from the headphones if I switch to any other app, and there is no cross fade on the tracks when you set it to repeat. It’s not exactly relaxing to be drifting off, for your sleep sounds to abruptly stop then restart. Please fix the app!

### 2/5 — Meh

*2021-09-17, version 2.2.9*

I used to love my hoomband buuuut… now the sounds stop even if I set up the timer.

### 2/5 — Sad used to work

*2021-07-03, version 2.2.2*

It was working great now it just cuts off all the time.

### 2/5 — App needs work

*2021-03-28, version 2.0.2*

I have tried this for a week and am extremely frustrated and even more tired that before due to having to restart the story that quits after 5-10 minutes and non-existing looping feature for the ambiance tracks. I contacted customer support via email and they indicated that downloading the tracks and playing from there would automatically loop. They said it would not loop when you play it “online”. Tried that and it still didn’t work. I’ve had issues with tracks stopping as others also noted. The band is comfortable enough, but the app needs A LOT of work. Hope to be able to update this review if they ever fix the app as I had high hopes for this one.

### 3/5 — Not enough new content

*2021-03-05, version 2.0.1*

I enjoy the immersive stories, but tired of listening to the same ones over and over.

### 2/5 — Great idea but....

*2021-01-18, version 2.0.1*

The apps offers lots of options as far as sounds but cuts off ever 3-4 minutes. Really disappointing 😔

Update: I tried to listen to the app via my phone without the headband and it still cut off so thinking it is an app issue vs a speaker issue

### 3/5 — Auto Repeat

*2020-12-26, version 2.0.1*

What happened to the repeat setting? It was there, then disappeared. I’ve taken the trouble to redownload several times, but it’s gone. I need that feature!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I can’t use it

*2023-01-29*

I’m on an iPhone 11 and now and when I try to retrieve my code to unlock the app it won’t send me an email, it just keeps loading. Then, when I try to go to any of your websites for help, it says that it cannot connect to the server. Same thing is happening with my mom.

### 1/5 — Band seems nice. App is total garbage.

*2022-08-05, version 2.2.17*

Set it up yesterday. Today it doesn’t work. Uninstalled reinstalled. Need code. I am on the road code is at home. Won’t let me use my email to recover. Pretty sure I am sending the whole thing back to Amazon. Clearly CNET tested this thing for exactly five minutes. Thanks for nothing.

### 1/5 — Great content, abysmal execution

*2022-04-05, version 2.2.13*

Title says it all. I love the content but the app is a hot mess. In almost 2 weeks of use I was only able to get it to function properly once. Last night it played for 5 minutes before it froze.

The repeat/timer function (if you could call it that) never worked. The parts that work were the downloads and the ability to create a queue. The queue didn’t work, but hey you can create a list.

I’m the guy who never writes reviews. If I write a review it’s either spectacular or a complete flop. This was a flop.

### 1/5 — Worst app I’ve ever used.

*2021-12-26, version 2.2.12*

It’s constantly just one problem after the next. I was so excited to use this gift but the app will not work sufficiently. First, it continued to say “offline” despite being connected to wifi. I then deleted the app, restarted my phone, and reinstalled. I was then prompted to revalidate the hoomband, which I successfully did - but was then directed to a blank home screen that would not load. Nothing I do fixes this issue. I have revalidated over and over again, and it still will not load. I guess I will connect the hoomband to another streaming service in order to really test it out. First impressions, not so good, and definitely not worth the money.

### 1/5 — Would be a 10 star product if the app worked

*2021-03-16*

The product is amazing, the ambient sounds are so soothing. It would be an amazing product IF they fixed the app issues...

The first time using the hoomband and app, the sound would cut out after 6-7 minutes (as if someone pressed pause). So, after being in a very relaxed state... the sound cuts out, you hear your partners snoring, and restart the sound again. This happens every time. I switched the sounds to see if it happened with the others.... and it does. One kept cutting out after 2 minutes.

This would be the best product if they actually took the time to fix this issue .... but based on A LOT of reviews online, the issue has been going on for a lot of people for a while now. It has been confirmed by other users as an app issue and not a speaker issue (the speaker quality is quite amazing WHEN it works).

It is quite frustrating as it’s not cheap... I really do wish they would listen to their customers and fix the issue - I love this product.... I just wish it was reliable.

LivLab is a good company, I have their Dodo product and it’s lovely and I’ve had no issues... but the Hoomband is a winner IF IT WORKED RELIABLY.

If they fixed that problem, this would no doubt be a raving 5 start review and I would recommend it to any troubled sleeper. I have had chronic insomnia for over 3 years (mind races for hours, can’t get my brain to shut off, etc). For those first 6-7 minutes before the noise cut out, was the FIRST TIME in 3 years where my mind was actually still and I was actually almost asleep (which is unheard of for me to fall asleep in under 1-2+ hours). This is particularly why I am so frustrated. This product would be perfect if they fixed the ‘cutting-out’ issue.

Ps... if you app developers read this... can you please add a function for “auto-repeat” so that the sounds can just loop over and over? (Bonus for being able to set a sleep timer that cross-fades out after x hours)

### 1/5 — not quite there ... a long way off, actually

*2021-02-17, version 2.0.1*

1. add ability to set the amount of time you want to listen to music, story, etc.. offering selections of just one hour or 45 minutes, etc. is lame.
2. i keep setting the language and every time the app restarts, i have to set it to french again. lame.
3. when i’m browsing different sounds, each time i return to the selection screen, i have to start from the top and scroll all the way back to where i left off ... lame.
4. not sure why, but app has suddenly stopped showing the pictures of the stories, music, etc .. really lame.
5. clicking the play triangle doe not guarantee that anything at all will happen ... seems like when you click ‘play’, it should ... i dunno ... play?
6. for the price of the chintzy (but comfortable) hardware, this app should be a LOT more polished. as it stands, it is more sloppy than it is soporific ...
fix it!

### 1/5 — So Frustrating

*2021-02-11, version 2.0.1*

Constantly cuts off. Have to delete and add app constantly. Now my “ code” doesn’t work and it’s been 24 hours and I’ve not heard from customer service. Don’t buy this product!

### 1/5 — Maddingly troubled app on Apple IOS

*2021-02-11, version 2.0.1*

I’ll start by saying I love the idea of your product. The band is comfortable enough but in my case a little tight for a head size of 73/4.

When I initially bought this band, I could get the Ambiances to loop and play all night which was great. Now after some of your updates, the Ambiances only play once and then turn off which is a pain in the rear.

Since your updates I also have to deactivate and then reactivate the band a couple of times a day. That entails entering my activation code and more recently also my email address every time I use the app. Typing on an iPhone is not ideal. There should be a way to save your activation.

As for your Ambiance sounds, there is enough variety that everyone should be able to find things they like. That said, there’s little consistency in sound quality. Some are perfect while others are nearly inaudible. The Thunderstorm starts out early inaudible but after a few minutes it gets way too loud. It becomes unlistenable which is a shame because I love the sounds of a Thunderstorm. There are others that probably would be great if you could hear them.

I hope that you will improve this product. As of now, I couldn’t recommend it because of the flaws.

Thanks

Joe

### 1/5 — Game changer if it worked

*2021-02-09, version 2.0.1*

I have tried using the band for 4 nights.

The good: comfortable and easy to set up. Nice selection of title from stories to soothing music. I was so excited by the idea of it after the first night, I ordered one for my young adult.

The bad: can’t get the app to play anything without deleting the app and adding it back EVERY NIGHT.

The ugly: an expensive product with a very subpar app as noted by other reviews. Please fix!

### 1/5 — Stops playing

*2021-01-29*

Great quality sound but app stops after five mins. Just hangs and you have to open and restart the audio. Without a functioning app it’s no different to any other Bluetooth head band, just more expensive!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I use this every night!

*2022-07-09, version 2.2.15*

I use the app every night! It’s better than a sleeping pill. I would really love to see more content from Bob Taylor and Michelle Hotaling! Those are my favorite narrators by far.

### 5/5 — Love my Hoomband

*2021-07-22, version 2.2.3*

I’ve had a hard time with insomnia for years and meditation apps never worked because of the need to wear earbuds. Hoomband solves that problem, with speakers lying flat against your ears. I have rarely ever heard an entire soundscape on it because I always fall asleep before it ends. I can’t recommend this enough for chronic insomniacs.

### 5/5 — Thin headphones!

*2021-01-13, version 2.0.1*

I was looking for headphones to sleep with and this are working great so far. I use Spotify and the band stays on for hours, even if the phone is locked. 👍🏼

### 4/5 — Good product

*2024-10-18*

It’s good. I have a little bit of trouble with the volume control which has links to your iPhone and in order to get that to work at least reasonably you need to turn off the decibel controls that are in accessibility and various other things.

It has a lot of nature sounds. I’m not all that interested in the stories but some people love them.

There is music but it’s sort of on about brain waves honestly I would like some - Joni Mitchell or some other types of really good music that relaxes me and sends me off to sleep, but I haven’t figured that out yet. For all I know, I can use my own music, but I can’t review that cause I haven’t tried it.

Of course I’m new to it so it could be that you could add your own music I have no idea but essentially as a headband and so forth, it’s really a good product and like others I just think they should take a look at the app and make it just a tad more flexible and yeah, just more flexible that would be great.

### 4/5 — Updates more often

*2023-02-21, version 2.2.19*

Please update the app more often. It could be great. It is the only sleep app that has the ability to queue, but the selection of stories is very limited and new tracks take 3-4 months to be released. By this time the stories have been played 20 times, and then it ceases to be effective.

### 4/5 — Hoomband

*2022-11-23, version 2.2.19*

I recommend this if you know people who snore it works well and is easy to set up. This works great for me when I’m traveling. Or when I am having trouble sleeping. The headband is comfortable, and the sound is clear.

### 4/5 — One problem — please read

*2022-02-19, version 2.2.13*

I got the Hoom Band about a year ago I think and I love it. I use it every night and it makes falling asleep so much easier. However, something happened with the most recent update or something. I always set the timer for 1 hour, and it used to shut off after the one hour. But recently it hasn’t been doing that and it drains the battery in my band. I used to only have to charge it after a week or two, but now I have to charge it every 2 days. I wake up and the app is still open and it says it’s still playing the sound but nothing is coming from the band. But because it stays on, so does the band. It’s really frustrating and I would appreciate it if this problem was fixed.
Another smaller issue I’ve noticed is if I’m wearing the Hoom band and playing a game or something and I get an ad, the ad stops playing after about 2 seconds. I have to close out the game, go to the Hoom band app, and start up the sound again because the ad shuts it off. I’m not sure why this is happening either but it is sort of an annoyance.

### 4/5 — Works great/needs more content

*2021-11-06, version 2.2.10.1*

I’ve had mine for almost a year, and it has worked great. I see people are saying it cuts off, I’ve never had that problem. I like the stories provided, I just wish there were more new ones.

### 3/5 — Bought for the band, stayed for the app

*2023-12-01*

I was skeptical at first, but I love this app and have been falling asleep to it for a year now. I’ve tried other ‘fall asleep’ meditations and no luck, but these work for me! Here’s what makes me a fan:

- solfeggio frequencies layered with stories

- stories are the right amount of boring

- there are stories that don’t focus too much on breath and body scans, which I usually can’t get into, but do include maybe one or two deep breaths in the middle. I still use the body scans occasionally for meditation, but not for sleep.

- there isn’t too much content. This might seem like a downside, but it might be the accidental secret sauce. Repetition works for me, and it turns out that’s pretty common. Searching for something new and good is not a good idea before bed.

- I hate monthly subscriptions and this isn’t one.

I’m not big into writing reviews, but this app changed my life. I don’t even use the band every time, sometimes I just have my phone volume up.

Anyway, whatever the reason this odd mix of technically inaccurate, grammatically questionable and occasionally bizarre documentaries and stories puts me to sleep like a tranquilliser when nothing else has worked for 15 years.

### 3/5 — Product is ok, but…

*2023-09-14*

The app doesn’t seem to be uploaded with new content, etc. So it gets repetitive… I’m starting to browse the Internet again to find interesting meditations, immersive stories, etc. With the hoomband, but still, I was expecting more.
