## What is Hoops Playbook?

Hoops Playbook turns a basketball play into a short animation your team can watch, pause and learn from.

Draw a play one step at a time. Place five players, drag their paths, add cuts, dribbles and passes, and watch the whole thing run. Scrub forward and back to check spacing. Plays look the same on iPhone and iPad. Tap the ball handler, then double-tap a teammate to pass or the hoop to shoot, and the editor moves on to the next step.

DECISIONS, NOT JUST DIAGRAMS
Real basketball is about reads. Add a decision step and give the player two or more options. When you present the play, it pauses at the decision and shows the options as large buttons. Tap one to see how that choice plays out, or let the default branch run. Use it to teach what to do when the defense takes away the first option.

SPEAK THE PLAY
Type a sentence for any step and the app reads it aloud, or record your own voice. Narration plays during presentation and can be included in exported videos.

COURT MARKINGS
Switch to Court mode to draw lines, zones and labels on the court: a no-press line, a lane to avoid, a spot to hold. Mark a line so that defense or offense cannot cross it, and the editor warns you when a path breaks the rule. Save your markings as a template and apply it to every new play. The app includes a league court template with a no-press line, and a sample play that uses it.

PRESENT AND DRAW
Present full screen on a tablet or a phone at the bench. Step through one move at a time, play continuously, slow it down, or draw temporary ink on the court while you talk. The ink never changes the play.

SHARE IT
Export a play as a video with a title card, captions and narration. Send it from the Messages app drawer as an interactive card that the other person can step through and save to their own playbook. Send a .playbook file to another coach, or keep a shared playbook in an iCloud Drive folder so two coaches see the same plays.

ORGANIZE
Keep plays in folders, set up teams with rosters and jersey numbers, and start from sample plays: Give and Go, Pick and Roll, Inbound Box, Pass Options and Beat the No-Press Line.

YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
There is no account and no tracking. Plays are stored on your device, in your iCloud Drive if you choose, or in a folder you pick. The app collects nothing.

Hoops Playbook is free.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-31

Tapping a play someone sent you in Messages now opens it so you can watch it step by step, instead of showing your own plays.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-29

• Describe a Play (beta): say or type what happens and get play steps to review, as a new play or added to an open one. Runs on your device with Apple Intelligence (iOS 26 and later).
• Quick Start: a short guided tour on first open shows how to make, watch and present a play, including the double-tap shortcuts for passes and shots. Settings > Quick Start has tours for teams, AI Chat, recording and sharing with other coaches.
• Play from AI Chat: copy a ready-made prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any AI chat, describe your play there, and paste the answer back to get the play. Add the defense if you like, or use Steps from AI Chat in the editor to continue a play. Works on any iPhone or iPad.
• Whiteboard: record a walkthrough with your voice, ink and an optional camera bubble, then play it back, export it or turn it into a play. Record a Play builds a play straight from a recording.
• Layups: double-tap the hoop near the rim for a layup off the glass, or touch and hold the hoop for Shot, Layup or Drive and Layup. Choose 6 or 8 feet in Settings.
• Switch sides: mirror a play left to right, turn a half court so the hoop is at the bottom of the screen, or flip a full court to the other end in presentation, the editor, exports and Messages, or duplicate it mirrored.
• Quicker editing: double-tap a player to pass, double-tap the hoop to shoot, and the editor moves on to the next step. Touch and hold a player to swap in a teammate or a kid from the bench. On iPhone, drag a step onto another to reorder.
• Playbooks for coaching staffs: keep My Plays and one or more shared team folders side by side, switch between them from the library title, and copy any play into another playbook. Share with Coaches walks you through setting up a shared iCloud Drive folder.
• Teams: plays without a team can pick up your team in one tap, so they show names and jersey numbers.
• Fixes: duplicating a play keeps its recorded narration, and a pass made after a drag now plays after the move.
