### 2/5 — Most Recent Update Makes It Worse

*2026-06-06, version 3.0.1*

The trip tools now force you into an outside browser and the UI looks bad. Come on yall. Keep it simple.

Also the process of merging cards is ridiculous. You should just have one card in the app. I shouldn’t have the current card and then this ghost card that has $20 on it that I’m not allowed to use.

### 4/5 — Bad update recently…

*2026-05-25, version 3.0.1*

I can’t remove old cards and the process to load money is now excessive and convoluted. So, I have to swipe through a card I haven’t used in years to button-smash my way into loading money onto my current card.

This definitely isn’t worth the hardly-improved graphics for the app. Please revert us back to the old version.

### 3/5 — Does not connect to wallet

*2026-05-21, version 3.0.1*

Does not connect to Apple Wallet on current iOS and iPhone 17.

update: tech support resolved this issue.

### 1/5 — App all but useless now

*2026-05-12, version 3.0.1*

Which genius decided to take away all the trip tools in the latest update of this app? Used to be able to “favorite” stops and easily plan travel. Now you’re sent to Trimet or Streetcar websites, where nothing can be saved and you have to start from scratch every time—and some stops are completely missing! Why make it more difficult to use transit when you update an app?

### 1/5 — Fix the update

*2026-05-01, version 3.0.1*

Along with many others I am not happy with the update. Not being able to track rides in the app is really inconvenient and more importantly I can’t reload my card. The Pay button works one out of every 50 times I click on it. As a result I’ve had to not pay fares. Been expecting an update with these bug fixes but that doesn’t seem to be a priority

### 2/5 — Terrible Update

*2026-04-27, version 3.0.1*

This app used to be so convenient and easy to use. I could view my hop card and easily load money onto it, as well as track bus lines and plan trips. After the update it is really only for managing your hop pass and has almost no usability beyond that. The trimet tracker opens to a separate browser instead of being viewed in the app, and the navigation in the app itself is much more clunky and frustrating to use than it used to be. Before this update I would have give this app a 4 star, but after the update it barely deserves 2

### 1/5 — App is broken

*2026-04-27, version 3.0.1*

My hop card button does nothing now.

### 1/5 — Does not connect to wallet

*2026-04-24, version 3.0.1*

Does not connect to Apple Wallet on current iOS and iPhone 17.

### 1/5 — Latest update broke the app.

*2026-04-23, version 3.0.1*

The buttons dont work so I cant log myself in.

### 3/5 — New update terrible

*2026-04-22, version 3.0.1*

While i appreciate some of the aesthetics in the newest update, I find it deeply, intensely frustrating that the “trip tools” feature now opens into a browser window instead of just being integrated into the app like it was previously. You just made my life that much more annoying. Thanks.

### 1/5 — New update is terrible

*2026-04-21, version 3.0.1*

The old app was fine and did its job well! The new update doesn’t allow tracking buses or saving trips (without being redirected to another internet app).

### 3/5 — no map access with new update

*2026-04-19, version 3.0.1*

i appreciate the ui update, but not being able to navigate inside the app is killer! because it opens the map in a web browser, it’s never able to locate me. please return this to the app!

### 1/5 — Don’t get the new update if you use the Trip Planner in the app

*2026-04-16, version 3.0.1*

The new update completely removed the Trip Planner and Arrival Checker from the app and redirects you to the website, which makes the app almost a complete waste of storage space on my phone. I hope the Trip Planner gets added back to the app.

### 1/5 — No tracker!?

*2026-04-15, version 3.0.1*

What happened to the in app Tri met tracker?! You’re killing me, Smalls!

### 1/5 — Extra Fees

*2026-03-23, version 2.0.1738*

The $3 virtual card fee doesn’t make sense when using contactless cards or cards via mobile wallet is free.

### 1/5 — bad and getting worse

*2026-03-17, version 2.0.1738*

this app is so slow and functions so poorly and yet they keep taking features away. this app is designed to do like four things, why did they have to take away pass progress?

### 1/5 — Can’t Use My Money In It

*2026-03-15, version 2.0.1738*

I loaded up $15 to the hop app and have been trying for weeks now to add the card to my apple wallet and it won’t work ever.

### 1/5 — Useless don't download!

*2025-12-11, version 2.0.1738*

Tri-Met takes contactless cards now so this app is obsolete and just charges extra fees to use.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — NEED UPDATE!

*2026-07-24, version 3.2.0*

My hopfastpass not work app not und why since I keep used app for almost 10yrs till now SCREWED UP!!! Need REFIX! sighh….

### 1/5 — Very inconvenient

*2026-07-23, version 3.2.0*

I somehow get logged out of my account and am required to sign in each time. There’s no “remember me” option. There’s no “save password” option. Basically every time I open the app I have to change my password. Right now I’m trying to change my password and I’m getting an error. A new link to reset my password evidently won’t send. I wanted to refill my card in time but ended up having to pay with cash instead of use my work transit voucher card due to all the errors with the app preventing me from being able to sign in to my account. I noticed that a lot of these difficulties began with the new update. Be better!

### 1/5 — Signs me out at very inconvenient times

*2026-07-17, version 3.2.0*

Along with the terrible “upgrades” from the recent redesign, the app now constantly logs me out, which is insanely frustrating and inconvenient.

### 1/5 — Been broken for months

*2026-06-25, version 3.0.1*

Unable to log in or change password. I called customer service when this first started happening and then couldn’t figure it out. Went to reload today, still broken

### 1/5 — Impossible to plan trips on updated app

*2026-06-18, version 3.0.1*

I have written TriMet 3 times about this issue so have no choice but to leave this review. Ever since the update I have not been able to use the app or their site to plan trips. They took the plan a trip part out of the app, now it pops up in my browser. Fine, annoying but not a deal breaker BUT even though I have location services on my browser turned out (though I’d prefer not to), it cannot see my location and I can’t use the transit tracker. I used this feature every day to plan a trip and I’m beyond frustrated that they would release an app that essentially is worthless. And every time I email them they don’t care. Great job making transit more accessible.

### 1/5 — Update broke app

*2026-06-16, version 3.0.1*

Haven’t been able to use the app since the update.
Can’t login via the app anymore. Says credentials are invalid. Same credentials work on the website and mobile browser.

### 1/5 — (Almost) unusable.

*2026-06-10, version 3.0.1*

With the new ui update came with abunch of bugs. I have to tap the button to pay multiple times because the button is so unresponsive, not only that no matter what I do it declines one of my cards which makes it frustrating and have to transfer funds to my other card. If you’re going to have an app for your public transport population atleast makes sure IT WORKS. I never should’ve updated it as the version before the weird new ui it always worked. Disappointing but not surprising from Trimet.

### 1/5 — Zero stars. Useless.

*2026-06-04, version 2.0.1738*

Great, now I can’t use it at all because I have an older phone. Congrats on being the reason for my first ever app review. This sucks

### 1/5 — Upgrade is terrible

*2026-05-28, version 3.0.1*

The new update is horrible and inconvenient. I’m not unable to save stops on the app like I was able to before I updated the app. I used to be able to easily track all the busses and had all the stops saved and I accidentally updated the app and it deleted all that.. now everytime I try to track a bus it just switches me over to browser with is useless. What’s the point of owning the app now? Please switch app back to old format please!!

### 1/5 — Bad update

*2026-05-14, version 3.0.1*

When you try to use the trip planner feature post update it redirects you to a web browser instead of showing you the information in the app. Under no circumstances should an app ever make you open the browser. The whole point of an app is to replace the need for a website. Redirecting back to the website defeats the whole point.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works great.

*2026-04-21, version 3.0.1*

Other than suddenly being unable to use ApplePay several months ago, the app works great on my phone, or watch. Bus drivers are great, too.

### 5/5 — Works great for me

*2025-11-27, version 2.0.1738*

Idk what people’s problem is it works great for me

### 5/5 — The app works

*2025-08-29, version 2.0.1738*

I’m not sure why people like to complain about something that works. Sorry it doesn’t work for them, but frankly based on what’s being said I am positive that the problem exists with the users and not the app itself. It’s always worked and I’ve used it for years and years.

### 5/5 — No complaints here

*2025-08-17, version 2.0.1738*

Works every time—I’ve never had any issues with any version of this app.

### 5/5 — Very convenient

*2025-02-15, version 2.0.1738*

Works with iphone 12 and lets me plan my schedule. Can also help transfer card to apple wallet to allow easy access.

### 5/5 — It maybe works best with newer phones

*2024-05-02, version 2.0.1738*

I’ve used this since it first came out. With a couple of different phones. It works best when I keep my phone and the app updated. I’ve never had a problem except when I had two accounts and got them mixed up. I emailed support and they helped me straighten it out. Keeping track of my phone is easier for me than keeping track of a pass.

### 5/5 — The app works, don’t listen to the complainers!

*2024-01-13*

The virtual card works amazingly! All you have to do is tap at any hop card reader and it quickly takes your fare. This is especially helpful when I am running late for the train and I need to pay my fare in an instant before the train departs.

I’ve never had any issues using this app. From day one it worked perfectly, people just need to learn to follow instructions better.

The app works every time I need to use it, as long as I have enough money loaded to my card. The real issue is that sometimes the readers don’t work properly, and you can explain this to TriMet security and they will not write you a ticket. In the rare event the card reader doesn’t work at one train station, just tap your card at the next train station. It’s not rocket science, guys!

### 5/5 — Works well for what it is

*2023-03-13, version 2.0.1627*

Clean buses, reliable pick up times. Has been a good switch since I’ve given up owning a personal vehicle.

### 5/5 — Update? For iOS

*2023-01-16, version 2.0.1627*

Idk before I couldn’t use the app when I updated my phone however just tried again today and it worked :)

### 5/5 — Really convenient

*2022-04-16, version 2.0.1627*

Not sure why this app’s rating is so low. It’s super easy to use and supports Express Transit so the virtual card will work even if your phones runs out of battery.
