Don’t use when driving *2021-09-17, version 1.40* If your going to try to use this, use it to try back up only, don’t try using while driving. Connection to WiFi almost never works and when it does it just keep dropping, app is useless as well and incredibly frustrating. I’m removing the camera from my camper and installing a proper one. It’s cheap so it’s attractive but doesn’t work well at all. ### 1/5 — Piece of garbage don’t buy it! *2021-08-16, version 1.40* Don’t buy anything from this company! I’ve been trying for three days to get a picture. Tech support is no help. He said he doesn’t know how to use an iPad to “shut down and re start the App” I have tried two apple devices and an android still no picture. I have deleted the app and re downloaded several times. It’s the apps problem and the tech is clueless. Constant reconnect issues with WIFI and backup light remains on by default so each time you shut down for gas, etc. need to configure WiFi, connect to camera, open program and turn off backup light...thinking it’s against most state laws to have white light shining to the rear. Then you have to delete app and start over, if your WiFi is on automatic it will keep going back and forth then you have to start all over again! Not a very good program, I would have been better off buying one with a monitor but I didn’t want anything extra on my dash. Will be returning ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Garbage, don’t buy their cameras *2026-04-30, version 1.43* I have tried all the recommendations in the reviews and no luck, stuck on a not connected to WiFi error so I can’t even get into the app to see how the camera works… this was a Christmas gift so I can’t even return it. ### 1/5 — App and phone support… *2024-08-20, version 1.43* I can’t get past the initial registration screen and create an account to use the app. First, it thinks I’m not on wifi, then it thinks I don’t have my email address in my settings. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times. I called customer support 23 minutes before closing. Waited on hold for an hour and 20 minutes, while hearing the same recording every 30 seconds. Finally decided to press 8 and leave a message. Got a fast busy signal. I’m fairly certain they left for the day and didn’t bother to send existing calls to vmail. Had to call back to leave the message. I was going to install this camera today, but if I can’t even get into the app, the camera is useless. ### 1/5 — Poor design *2024-07-06, version 1.43* I agree with the other review. As for the camera, the camera transmit power is pitiful. A better antenna helps but even that can’t overcome the poor product design. Unfortunately, I can’t really review the app itself because it never worked good enough to reach from the back of a 16ft trailer to the cab of a 25ft RV. I mean, we are talking no more than about 35 feet. I understand RF and line of sight requirements, but even standing 10ft away with zero obstructions, the connection drops within a few seconds. ### 1/5 — Hopkins tow solutions back up camera *2024-06-07, version 1.43* Not a fan. I’ve contacted Hopkins Tech Helpline and none of there advise helped. ### 1/5 — Seriously disappointing *2022-07-07, version 1.41* I NEVER write reviews, but this is the one time where it is definitely needed. I just drove for 4 hours and tried to use the camera on multiple occasions. It only stayed connected for longer than a minute while driving down the highway. Most of the time it works for about 10-20 seconds. I’ve tried to use this on many occasions but today finally killed my last nerve. If I was approached by the company offering a second camera for $20 I would not take it. I’m going back to the place where I bought it and telling them what a piece of junk it is. Seriously disappointed with it. BTW the lowest I could give was a 1 star. ### 1/5 — Don’t purchase *2022-04-03, version 1.40* Lack of support. Found how to make it work online from unhappy customers. You have to have the camera on before downloading the app. Then it will work, but till the next time you want it to work. Then you have to remove the app and download it again. Trailer is 34 ft overall length plus the distance of my full size SUV. The system worked just fine. I used it two ways. One was as a back-up camera. The other as an rear view mirror with an unimpeded view. True that there can be a 1 sec lag time here and there. Regardless, I found any lag easy to manage as I went slow when backing up, and did not make sudden maneuvers when driving. Very highly recommend. Used a $20 cup holder mount for my iPad in the horizontal orientation. ### 4/5 — Can you add CarPlay support ? *2023-08-30, version 1.43* CarPlay would allow to use the vehicule screen to display the camera !! Thanks ### 4/5 — Battery killer *2022-04-12, version 1.40* Initial rating: three stars. I installed this app to control a Hopkins camera mounted on the back of my travel trailer. It works well and I have a nice clear picture. But my iPhone battery started discharging rapidly, and the phone would shut down within four to five hours. I initially thought the battery was bad and had it replaced, but the same thing happened for the next couple of days. Someone asked me if I had recently installed a new app and I realized the discharging started right after I had gotten this app. I removed the app for a few days and the battery was normal. Follow-up, one week later: I reinstalled the app and found that now I could not connect to the camera no matter how close to it I was. Finally realized using an iPhone, I have to allow the app to access the local network. In the alphabetical list of apps, select Hopkins Towing Solutions turn off Cellular Data and turn on Local Network. Everything now works well and the battery lasts longer. Upgrading my review to four stars. ### 3/5 — Install great, Works great when it works… *2023-03-23, version 1.42* I purchased this unit at same time as my new trailer in may which is a few feet longer than my other one at 30feet overall length while my older trailer was 27feet. Install was great and easy as I mounted to my marker light on the back top of trailer with included bracket Once powered up in my parking lot i was able to capture the camera signal in my neighbor across the street and signal seemed strong! Once in my new 2022 Durango R/T is a different story and difficult to stay connected bit hopkins helped me a bit and helps if yku do not connect car play in vehicle and Do not allow any other wifi device as it seems to interfere and disconnect camera. On some trips its ok 1-3hrs and other trips cannot stay connected to camera and kicks out a lot… I have a love/hate relationship with this system! It works ok! **I can tell you that my other trailer had a wifi camera from Canadian Tire but had its own screen and once plugged in would pick-up camera and very rarely disconnected**. But harder to install/position bracket prefer this one for the install bit not the operation** ### 2/5 — Here is the solution *2025-12-24, version 1.43* Experienced the issues others have had. But figured out you have insulate the WiFi signal. So put you device in airplane mode. My works great now. Why the developer doesn’t monitor his own fing app to provide solutions is crazy. But you’re welcome. ### 2/5 — Doesn’t work on CarPlay *2024-04-12, version 1.43* Not compatible with CarPlay so you’re required to have a phone or tablet to see the camera. It would be so much better if it displayed on my CarPlay screen ### 2/5 — Connection Issues *2022-11-12, version 1.42* When it’s working it’s great! But connection issues constantly. I’ve been able to go a block away from the vehicle and clear image and connects, but from the tow vehicle on and off and on and off. Put a 10db directional antenna, beamed straight at the tow vehicle, it helped but still not enough?????? When connected wi-fi signal is full, but randomly drops, weather moving or not. ### 2/5 — This needs fixing *2022-05-03, version 1.41* I love the concept but some things need fixing. The rear night lights come on when ever power is applied, it should default off and turn on at command. Range is not as claimed, my 30 foot trailer looses signal while traveling.
