HopNet is a private messenger with nothing to breach. HopNet lets you exchange end-to-end-encrypted messages, photos, videos, voice messages, and calls — one-to-one or in small private groups — with people you add yourself, so no one, including us, can read your conversations. You're only ever in touch with people you choose. You add a contact by scanning their QR code, in person. HopNet has no random matching, no "chat with strangers" mode, and no public directory — only the people you've added can reach you. Why HopNet is different • No phone number, no email, no account — your identity is a key that lives only on your phone. • End-to-end encryption — the same proven design used by leading secure messengers (X3DH and the Double Ratchet). • Voice & video calls — end-to-end encrypted, and they connect even on restrictive networks. • Photos & voice notes in groups — shared with the same end-to-end encryption as your messages. • Private offline delivery — when your contact is offline, your message waits in an encrypted "blind mailbox" that no one, not even us, can read, and is deleted once delivered. • You're in control — verify contacts with safety numbers, lock the app with Face ID, block or report anyone, and wipe everything instantly. Safety HopNet has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You can block or report any contact at any time from the chat menu, and reports are reviewed within 24 hours. How it works 1. Open HopNet — a private identity is created on your device. 2. Scan a friend's QR code (or have them scan yours). 3. Start chatting, privately. HopNet is in active development. We'd love your feedback — Settings, then Send Feedback. Note: when you're connected to a contact, they may see your IP address, as with other direct-connection messengers. Use a VPN if that matters to you. ## Version history (last 5 releases) ### 1.3.7 — 2026-08-11 Group chats you can count on. • Fixed a bug where group invitations, joins, and leave notices could be silently lost after reopening the app — groups now sync reliably for everyone. • When someone leaves a group, everyone sees it right away. • The messaging engine now recovers by itself after a rare startup hiccup — no more stuck sessions. • Quieter internals: less background chatter, easier on your battery. ### 1.3.6 — 2026-08-09 Steadier in every way. • No more duplicate chats — reconnecting with someone now always lands in your one existing conversation. • Calls connect more reliably, and a call that can't connect now says so instead of ringing forever. • Photos and videos always show their true status — no more sent-but-shown-stuck or received-but-invisible. • Joining a group right as messages fly? They arrive now — nothing is lost in the handshake. • Pairing and reconnecting are faster and no longer get stuck on rare timing collisions. • Deleting and re-adding a contact is clean — no leftover ghosts. • Quieter on your battery and network: fewer redundant uploads and duplicate transfers. ### 1.3.5 — 2026-08-03 Messages now find their way home. • Fixed a rare case where a chat could go quiet in one direction after a reconnect — your messages sent, theirs never arrived (or the reverse). Several separate causes, all closed. • A photo or video that finished arriving now always shows up in the chat — no more received-but-invisible pictures. • Photos and videos sent while you're both on the same Wi-Fi go straight phone-to-phone, and a transfer that already finished no longer keeps uploading in the background. • The direct connection between two phones now comes back within seconds after you reopen the app, instead of taking a minute. • Declining a call is final — no second ring, and no "missed call" note for a call you deliberately declined. • Contact names now reach the other person even without a direct connection — and restoring from an identity backup keeps your name. • Faster, quieter delivery: fewer redundant network writes and fewer duplicate notifications. ### 1.3.4 — 2026-07-28 Reconnecting is now something you decide together. • Someone you removed can ask to reconnect. You'll see a quiet request in Contacts — Accept, Ignore, or Block. No notification, no pressure, and the other person is never told which you chose. • Accepting restores the chat without scanning a QR code again. • Reconnecting is more reliable: one tap now converges, even after a lot of adding and removing. • If one of you reinstalls the app, the connection now repairs itself — no re-scanning, no lost chat. Photos and videos tell you the truth. • A photo that didn't finish uploading now resumes by itself instead of claiming it was sent. • If a photo really is gone from the relay, you're told plainly — instead of waiting forever on "Receiving…". • Sending on a slow connection works: large photos and videos no longer give up too early. • Tap to retry now works for photos in one-to-one chats. Far fewer notifications. • Only messages, photos, videos and calls will interrupt you. Reactions, reconnects and the app's own housekeeping stay silent. • Several messages from one chat now arrive as a single notification. Clearer contact status. • "Waiting for them" and "Unreachable" replace the old permanent "Reconnecting…", so you can tell the difference between slow and gone. ### 1.3.3 — 2026-07-25 Reconnection, made effortless: • Removed a contact and added them back?
