## What is Hotaru?

Turn your notes, photos and PDFs into flashcards in seconds — then remember them for good. Hotaru uses Apple Intelligence to write study cards from your own material, and FSRS, the spaced repetition algorithm behind Anki, to show each card right before you'd forget it.

Studying is free, forever. No ads, no tracking.

MAKE FLASHCARDS FROM ANYTHING
• Paste notes, scan a textbook page, pick photos of the whiteboard or open a PDF
• Apple Intelligence writes clear question-and-answer cards on your device — your material never leaves your iPhone
• Watch the cards appear, keep the good ones, start studying
• Prefer writing your own? Create cards by hand, import from Quizlet, Anki or CSV
• Fill-in-the-blank cards, and pictures on either side of a card

REMEMBER MORE, REVIEW LESS
• FSRS spaced repetition: about a quarter fewer reviews than older schedulers for the same memory
• Rate each card Again, Hard, Good or Easy — or just swipe
• Type your answer and Apple Intelligence checks it by meaning, not spelling
• Ask for an explanation of any card when it doesn't click
• Practice tests before the big day: multiple choice, true or false and written answers
• Speaking practice: say the answer out loud, recognized on your device

250+ READY-MADE DECKS
Explore 19 subjects: Spanish from A1 to C1, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Chinese and Korean; chemistry, physics, biology and astronomy; nature and animals; anatomy, medicine and first aid; math from fractions to calculus; programming, Excel and cybersecurity; history and geography; art, music, film and literature; finance, accounting, marketing and careers; philosophy, psychology and the science of learning; food and sports — plus Exam Season decks for the SAT and AP when the exams come around. Search, filter and add any deck in one tap.

Some decks open with Glow, a little light you earn every time you study and at streak milestones — or get in small packs.

A FEW MINUTES A DAY
• Today shows what's due and how long it'll take
• Home and Lock Screen widgets, Control Center, Siri and Shortcuts
• Gentle reminders only on days something is due — streaks that rest instead of shaming
• Insights: your streak, reviews, recall and what's coming up

MADE FOR IPHONE AND IPAD
Liquid Glass design, beautiful serif cards, Dark Mode, Dynamic Type and VoiceOver. Sign in with Apple to sync across devices and share any deck with a link — or use Hotaru with no account at all.

PERFECT FOR
Exams, med school (MCAT, USMLE), nursing, law, languages and vocabulary, certifications, school and university — or anything you want to remember for life.
