## What is House Poor?

Are you about to become house poor?

House Poor tells you exactly what you can afford before you fall in love with a house that breaks your budget. Enter your income, location, and household — we fetch AI-powered cost estimates for your city and show you a clear, honest number.

**HOW IT WORKS**
Tell us where you live, your household makeup (adults, kids, pets, cars), and your monthly take-home pay. We estimate local costs using real data for your city — then show you your maximum affordable home price and a full monthly budget breakdown.

**WHAT YOU GET**
- Your max affordable home price, recalculated as you adjust the numbers
- Recommended home size (beds, baths, sq ft) for your household
- Full monthly budget waterfall: take-home → savings → expenses → housing left
- Affordability rating: Healthy, Stretching, or House Poor
- Editable cost breakdown — change any number and recalculate instantly

**WHY IT'S DIFFERENT**
Most mortgage calculators only look at your loan payment. House Poor factors in everything: property tax, home insurance, utilities, groceries, cars, kids, pets, student loans, and more — all estimated for your specific city. You see the real picture, not the optimistic one.

**BUILT FOR REAL DECISIONS**
Whether you're a first-time buyer, planning ahead, or just curious whether a move makes sense — House Poor gives you the numbers without the spin.

Free plan includes 3 estimates. Get more with a one-time purchase, or unlock unlimited estimates forever.
