The app is NOT user friendly. Don’t waste your time and money. Fortunately I bought this “paperweight” from eBay and I should get a full refund. ### 3/5 — Great app works great even across different OS, but... *2019-03-21* I would give this application 5 stars but I gave it a 3 for 2 specific reasons. I have the gen 1 passport and I use both my iPad and my samsung galaxy s8+ to control it. Both apps work well on either platform. Though I found the application is optimized for smaller displayed devices. It would be nice if there was 2 versions of this application one for smaller handheld devices like a smart phone and a second for larger displayed devices like a iPad or comparable tablet. Have tried multiple times to connect to Hover. Phone wifi connects, but when I go back to the app, it still asks me to "Connect". So frustrating. I've only used the Hover 2 times in the year or so I've had it. ### 3/5 — Better with each app refresh.... but.... *2018-04-23* Currently: it has been improving with each app refresh and firmware update. The latest is pretty good though I wish the tutorials did a better job of showing how to use it and aim it. Images seem to download to the camera roll in iOS and videos have a convoluted process to download... some download automatically, others must be chosen to download. Th app tries to be an editor and stinks at that. That said, every now and then the video recorded starts to roll or flicker and a reboot is needed. This is frustrating.... but hopefully will be addressed soon. Was: The current software won’t export the photos or videos to the camera roll.... but will export the “hover drone” intro videos... why did I just buy a “camera” that won’t let me save or use the pictures? ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work at all as described *2018-04-21, version 2.16.2* Im unable to update the firmware (get an error u-005 every time, also fails when attempting manual update via upload to camera’s internal storage), the device will not follow me (in any mode), and it refuses to fly higher than 8 feet in the air. Pretty useless toy, definitely wouldn’t recommend it. ### 1/5 — App needs updating *2018-03-30* I bought the drone about a week ago, I was excited the moment it came in. I followed all the instructions in to connect the drone to my IPhone 8. The phone connects to the WiFi in the drone, but the app does not recognize connection has been stablished between the phone and the drone and keeps telling me to connect to the WiFi in the drone. And when I tried to call customer support, I get a voicemail that’s full. Very frustrating. The concept of the whole drone and app integration is great, but only when is supposed to work. ### 1/5 — A non flying nightmare. *2018-03-18* I’ve had my hover camera for a year. It works sometimes. Then others not. The support is a joke. It has turned into a very expensive paperweight. ### 1/5 — Wished it would work *2018-02-08* I like many other reviewers on here have issues getting Hover connected to work. Then the update happened and stopped working all together. Customer service is a joke as there is no one to talk to, all done through email. I’m on my 3rd unit in less than six months, and just got a “new one” back after they’ve had for almost 3 months now. I had to pay to ship product back as well. If you are reading this and just bought your Hover, take it back and get refund. I wish when I had the option, that I did not get a second one, instead could of gotten something else. Worse product Apple has ever sold. ### 1/5 — Not Ready *2018-01-15* Really surprised Apple sold these in their stores. Purchased in Apple store and have never been able to get this to fly properly. Continuously just shoots into the air. Have drones from other manufacturers, DJI and GoPro. For the price, this should be a better drone. Can’t comment on camera as could never get drone to work. As previous poster said, if you are reading this, you’ve probably already purchased. Do yourself a favor and return it and wait until v.2. ### 1/5 — Not like they advertise - return policy horrid *2018-01-12, version 2.16.0* I received this drone as a gift for Christmas and thought it was a very cool concept. I hike a lot with my dogs so the features that were advertised on their website sounded perfect. Half the time it would work when I signaled for it to take a pic, half the time it would not. It did follow me around as long as I walked slowly and did not take any turns. After a week of using it I realized it just does not have the capability as it advertised and was mediocre at best. So I decided to return it but their return policy is awful!! You can only return it if you never activated it and within 7 days of receipt. Well of course I opened and activated it - how else was I supposed to use it? I don’t know why a company would have such a strict return policy unless they knew their product was not as they depicted and expected a lot of returns. However I have to say I haven’t had any issues with it yet. I haven’t used any of the follow features or advanced operations but basic flight movements, video & photo quality are far better than I expected. The packaging was also very nice quality and they included 2 batteries, extra propellers, chargers, carry case, and tools. You will definitely want at least 2 batteries as the flight time is only 10mins. The good news is they charge fast. The unit itself is a great design too with fully protected propellers, streamline battery design, and easily foldable for compact carrying. It’s about the size of a sandwich when it’s folded up. I own a Mavic Pro which was over 4x the price of the Hover Passport version I bought but the listed specs were similar. I needed a drone that could shoot aerials for a home that DJI restricted (even though the location was a few blocks away from the restricted zone). Therefore I had to buy a drone under the FAA weight limit in order to avoid restriction issues. The Hover Passport turned out to be the perfect solution. The air space only allowed 100ft for this location so the altitude on this drone was sufficient for what I needed. However those looking for typical drone heights of 400ft would likely be disappointed since I think this one maxes out around 60ft. I feel this drone is a great option for a beginner as well a good small back up drone to keep on hand for certain situations where other larger drones are restricted. It would be a great travel drone too. For under $250 I am honestly very pleased with how great the overall performance was so far with this drone. ### 5/5 — Not that bad anymore *2019-03-23* Ok so if you’re considering buying this product I have to say you have to be careful and have the salesperson test the device on your phone before making the purchase because I had to switch my device because the first one couldn’t be discovered by any phone , the second one works like a charm but you’ll need to calibrate it occasionally which is fine by me ### 5/5 — Great new feature *2017-08-28, version 2.11.0* This latest update (the ability to automatically track and manual control some aspects of the flight) is a game changer. ### 5/5 — Nice drone *2017-04-24, version 2.2.0* Pretty much the easiest one for beginners. ### 5/5 — So far great *2017-04-21, version 2.2.0* Really enjoying my Hover Cam at the moment. Will revisit review after moderate use ### 4/5 — Works very well for me! *2018-03-19* I’ve not had any issues with my Hover Camera or the app. As far as the drone itself, once you understand how it does it’s hovering and tracking and use it in appropriate environments, it really works very well. ### 4/5 — The new firmware makes all the difference *2018-03-15, version 2.16.2* Pre the firmware this would have received 3 stars for the device and app. Post, it’s at 4 stars. It’s not the mavic air, it’s a portable camera so know your price point and drone specs and comp devices and rate accordingly. The owner mode requires you to scan your face first, a subtle but important step that some YouTube demo artists have failed to do prior to reviewing that mode. It is noisy but not as much as other comps. It will create a movie for you on your phone immediately with a variety of movie edits or you go raw and rip the file to edit. With the cage design locals don’t treat this with the same animosity as exposed blade drones. It is somewhat stable in low wind but again, it’s a camera drone for close proximity flying and tracking.
