Later, on a mountain summit with no cell coverage, I could not connect to the camera as the app enforced the creation of a user account. Add to this the repeated failures to connect to drone’s WiFi, and the ads and sharing spam to the detriment of drone control. I cannot emphasize enough how dumb and unreliable the design of this app is. Great hardware, let down software. ### 1/5 — Can’t sign into App *2025-08-16, version 2.33.0* Tried several times with two different phones to sign in to the app via my email and via my phone number. Keep getting error code— network is unavailable—Please try again. ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work *2025-08-04, version 2.32.2* The app doesn’t work ### 1/5 — Very poor privacy *2025-08-03, version 2.32.2* What worries me about this app is why it needs full access to media all of the time including media that has nothing to with the drone. Why can’t it work with limited access to only its own files? Why os it trying to access other media? This is suspicious as hell. ### 3/5 — UX needs a refresh *2025-06-30* It's wild how premium the device, packaging, and website feel, and then the app has this wack cheap and off-brand-feeling white and green design and poor UX. The App Store screenshots are hilariously bad. The UX in the app is worse. On first open, you start on some global feed of Hover clips – why would I want to see these first and not device settings? Then the page for device settings has buttons in random locations on the screen. You can't make this up. Finally, poor translations all over, like calling media "your works". The premium hardware deserves a premium app. Please hire a competent UX designer or branding specialist. ### 2/5 — Beacon doesn’t work with Hover X1 *2025-06-26* I bought the Beacon being informed by Hover that it would work with the X1. The day it was delivered Hover sent an email stating updates were needed. The links they provided don’t work. They stalled with answers until there return policy expiration ran out. I’m assuming they just want consumers to purchase the upgraded version and if you don’t you’re stuck with a paperweight and they have your money. It’s sad because I believed in their product. Good luck everyone. ### 1/5 — Had me at Hello UNTIL… *2025-05-27, version 2.31.0* Why in the HECK do you need Access to all my photos and videos that have nothing to do with your product? Double dipping by selling a product, then trying to STEAL the customers DATA by REQUIRING ALL ACCESS. Disgusting. The sad part about it is, that there are thousands of people who agree to this deceptive app’s requirements without batting an eye!! ### 2/5 — Not Great *2025-05-08* This app is incredibly buggy and slow. It constantly times out when trying to connect to the hover. It’s especially bad after pairing with the beacon and trying to go back. You’re absolutely screwed if you run out of memory and this thing refuses to connect so you can erase videos. However, the privacy policy link on the App Store goes to a nonexistent website and there are concerns about the company having access to all of the photos on your phone. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Horrible app *2026-06-06* You cannot access your videos or photos even when logged in. You must have your Hover connected, powered on, and in range to then see the photos and videos - then you have to export them back to your phone. Can’t just access the videos/photos via the app anytime like any ordinary app would have. UI is confusing. Needs to access your phone’s videos and photos as well in order to function properly - why??? ### 1/5 — Uses notifications to send out ads! *2026-05-28, version 3.1.0* I hope the app never needs to notify me of anything important. They used notifications to send out advertisements so I had to disable notifications. Notifications should only be used to send information about the operation of the drone, not advertising! ### 1/5 — App Does not work *2026-04-12, version 3.0.0* This app will download I will try to log in and the app closes out. Doesn’t seem to make a difference after I restart the app, my phone or download and re try. ### 1/5 — Can’t even log in *2026-02-17, version 3.0.0* The log in menu won’t let me type any characters to log in with rendering it useless. ### 1/5 — Tons of glitches, feels like spying malware *2025-12-26* The app keeps shutting down involuntarily and the setup process is like a moving target (every time I restart the app it asks a different set of questions instead of going through an A-to-Z process. I tried to update it after receiving notifications but had even more issues once I did that. Feels like a very cheap Chinese product that’s more of a spying malware than a serious product. I’m returning the drone to Costco and deleting the app. ### 1/5 — Do not update! *2025-12-16* I don’t know what’s going on over there, but the new update will purposely damage your batteries, and even though they will be fully charged, the drone will only have a flight time about a minute or so before landing and telling you you need to replace the battery. I’ve had the drone for more than a year and I have never not once had one single issue with the batteries until I downloaded the recent update and now support wants to waste my time by having me send the drone in where in about 30 days they’ll determine if I have to pay for something that they damaged with their update. Not sure if that’s legal where you can just damage a product you already purchased through software updates in order to force the user to purchase a new one? Do not download the update you will regret it and support won’t be helpful! ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work *2025-12-13, version 2.36.1* Just says network failed. I’ve tried every combination of WiFi on, off, Bluetooth, etc. Support had no idea how to fix. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, restarted my phone, etc. I’m on the latest iOS and iPhone 16 pro max. ### 1/5 — App doesn’t connect to drone *2025-12-13, version 2.36.1* Hover doesn’t do a good job of making its drones usable. The interface is simple to use and the automated flight modes are really impressive. What stood out most to me was the customer support. The team was responsive, helpful, and went above and beyond to make things right. That level of support really builds confidence in the product. The app is great and I love that it has a manual mode too. The only downside I have is not being able to unlock the flight modes right away and also if you offload the app temporarily and reinstall it, all of your flight modes that you’ve previously unlocked start all over again from scratch, which is very disappointing for me. Another complaint I have is the log in process, if one logs in and decides to log out, when you try to log back into your account it doesn’t allow you to, instead, it wants you to create a new account which is just so weird. Other than these minor setbacks in the app, I still like it and hope that they can fix these issues and add more fun flight modes and features like voice control! That would be amazing! ### 5/5 — Piece Of Junk *2024-07-15, version 2.13.0* Since updating my iPad Pro to iPadOS 17.5.1 (21F90) the Hover no longer connects for downloads. This thing cost too much to become an unusable piece of junk. DOH! User error. I just had to look in Files on my iPad under the HoverX1 folder to access the videos taken.
