## What is How many people paid??

Somebody knows the number. Right now, that somebody is not you.

How many people paid $1 to see how many people paid $1? There is an exact answer. It sits on a server, it moves every time another curious person gives in, and it is the only thing this app sells.

WHAT IT IS

A live social experiment in human curiosity. Nothing is simulated. Every figure comes from a real person, in a real country, deciding what a dollar of curiosity is worth. The moment you pay, you stop being a spectator and become part of the number the next person pays to see.

WHAT YOU GET

- The live global counter of everyone curious enough to pay
- A tug-of-war between the two phone tribes: one is measurably nosier
- A country leaderboard, with your own country highlighted
- Your personal rank: participant number X out of Y
- The hour of the day when human curiosity actually peaks
- Meta stats: who paid, who watched an ad instead, how the two compare
- Tiers to climb: The Curious, Deep Diver, Obsessed, Rabbit Hole, Whale, Legend

HOW ACCESS WORKS

Free to download. A small in-app purchase unlocks 24 hours of full access, and you can unlock it again whenever you want another look. No subscription, nothing renews, no account to create.

Too curious to wait but not curious enough to pay? Watch a rewarded video ad for three hours of the free view. Partial, and deeply unsatisfying.

THE HONEST PART

This is behavioural economics being performed on you, and it says so out loud. Four short explainers inside cover the Veblen effect, information asymmetry, collective action and sunk cost - the four reasons you are still reading this instead of closing it.

Translated into 20 languages, because curiosity is not an English-language problem.

So: how many people paid $1 to see how many people paid $1? Somebody is looking at the answer right now.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-08-14

Numbers now say what they mean.

• The platform breakdown was mislabelled on Android — the iOS bar was named "Android" and the Android bar "iOS". Two chips could even end up reading "iOS" side by side. Fixed everywhere they appear.
• "You're on team …" now names the platform you actually paid from.
• Prices are shown in your own currency, exactly as your store will charge them, instead of a fixed "1 dollar".
• Payments are recorded with the currency and country they were really made in.
• Fixed a receipt check that could leave a completed purchase uncounted.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-11

The number hasn't changed. Everything around it got sturdier.

• Pay, and you land on your number straight away — from wherever you were standing. It used to wait until you happened to wander back to the home screen.
• Watch an ad and you get a reveal of your own, counting everyone who chose their time over their money.
• The number you're shown now includes you. It used to show the count from the moment before you paid.
• If a payment goes through but your access doesn't, the app recovers it instead of leaving you empty-handed.
• Restore Purchases now lives in Settings, for a reinstall or a new phone.
• Every purchase button states up front that access lasts 24 hours.
• Fixed a spinner that could hang when a purchase needed someone else's approval, and text that was cut off on small screens and at large font sizes.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-04-21

Fixed an issue where some users could occasionally be charged twice when purchasing. Thanks to everyone who reported this!

### 1.0.2 — 2026-04-08

No release notes.
