### 4/5 — Good app. Could use some improvements.

*2023-07-14*

I’ve really benefitted from regular RF breathing and biofeedback using this app. It’s really helped me manage stress much more effectively. I do wish there were a more robust set of external accessories.

I often want to practice hands free, so I don’t need to be holding my phone to use the app, and I’m not aware of an external device that both measures your HRV and gives a vibration and quiet sound indicating the breathing intervals.

### 3/5 — Mostly love it but lots of lost data

*2023-04-28*

Love this app and what it does but data only syncs and saves for me about half the time. Possibly it’s just a hazard of rural internet but disappointing nonetheless

### 4/5 — Great for what it does, want it to do more

*2023-02-13*

I doubted their claim of HRV and HR accuracy. I have a Polar h10 and I compared measurements and to my surprise HRV4BIOFEEDBACK optical sensor accuracy was the same as Polar! Very impressive.

I like how you get the scores and can see the effects on mood and whatnot. Helpful to see trends over time.

Major criticism is that the breathing visual is hard to see. They need to do something with more contrast.

Only rated 4 stars because there is so much more they could do with the biofeedback exercise rather than just breathing. Guided meditation, sound, etc.

### 3/5 — Update killed it?

*2023-02-12*

Maybe HRV4BioFeedback is not working with iOs 16.3? Camera flash turns on, stays on, and no measurements take place at all, screens lock up.

### 5/5 — Works great; feature requests.

*2021-05-25*

I’ve used HRV4TRAINING for over a year.Recently, I listened to Marco‘s interview with Dr. Khazan, and decided to try out biofeedback. The app pairs well with Dr. Khazan’s book, and I’ve maintained a breathwork practice via the app for a a few weeks.

It took me a few weeks to realize the “Power” graph represented my breathing rate. Consider adding an additional label for the layperson such as myself.

I wonder if research shows that the optimal resonant frequency changes after some training, and if so, then the app could suggest retesting for your ideal frequency every two weeks or so.

I don’t own an Apple Watch, but have friends that do, and I’d like to recommend the app to them. You mention the watch doesn’t deliver live data, but is live data required? If the watch can store up to 20 minutes of HRV data, then send it to the phone for the app to process, doesn’t that work just as well? Even to find your resonant frequency, the app can change the visual breathing pattern, and match time stamps to sync up the frequencies to HRV.

Lastly, is it possible to allow the app to operate in the background? I’m using a consumer EEG with an associated iOS meditation app, and would be very curious to record my breathwork while simultaneously recording my brain waves.

Great work, sir. Cheers.

### 5/5 — Super valuable

*2021-05-25*

I’ve found this app to be incredibly valuable for measuring and managing my life stress.

### 3/5 — “Registration Failed [-1001]”

*2021-04-12*

Any one else get this?
It’s what I got when setting up the app. Registering an email and a password appears to be required.
I don’t have a Twitter account, so no contacting dear developer that way.
Did send an email to address listed in app.

Update:
Deleted and reinstalled app.

That seemed to work.

### 5/5 — Not only for elite athletes

*2020-11-29*

As an active senior, I rarely miss a morning where I don’t use this App. Keeps me honest so that I don’t over train. That morning resting heart rate feature can set the tone for what kind of activity would be best for that day, as well.

### 5/5 — Amazing results!

*2020-07-13*

This is the single most impactful app I’ve found for getting myself to center and feeling more in the “flow” state in a super short time. Replacing/supplementing my normal meditation time and the impact is amazing. There are a couple of small things I’d change on the app, but the team that makes it is awesome so I’m sure they’ll nail this; I have been using their other app (HRV4Training)and it launches new features and great updates all the time so I’m looking forward to where they go with this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2025-11-21*

Unusable

### 1/5 — 指が火傷しそうで計測できません

*2025-09-23*

iPhoneのカメラ部分が熱くなりすぎてまともに計測できません。

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-08-29*

I wanted to try resonance breathing. Saw this on Reddit.

This app doesn’t work at all.

Save your $10. Use another app like Elite HRV or Optimal HRV.

### 1/5 — heart rate varies wildly

*2025-08-21*

the heart rate isn't recorded accurately. it dropped from 80 to 30 for about a minute and then up 120. i checked it against my apple watch which had me at a steady 80-85. happy to change the review if i'm missing something in how i'm holding my finger over the camera

### 1/5 — Do not use

*2025-08-15*

It is not possible to log into their portal to get the data. Last blog entry was 2021. I doubt they are still actively supporting their app

### 1/5 — Marche tres mal

*2025-08-13*

Bugue sans arret. Le feedback ne se fait pas en temps reel donc impossible de savoir ce qui fonctionne. Mauvais achat

### 1/5 — NOT WORKING :(

*2025-08-06*

I tried EVERYTHING, but I have to registrate- and that is not possible. It always says: ERROR 200
I spent 9,99 € for anger and not for relaxation.

### 1/5 — Without a separate sensor it’s useless

*2021-02-24*

I got this to see if I could avoid spending the money on a more expensive device. Conclusion is I cannot; using the camera as a sensor (at least on my iPhone SE) is a fool’s errand, it shuts off after ten seconds due to inability to consistently detect. I haven’t been able to use the app at all. Waste of money for me.

### 1/5 — Still beta quality

*2020-08-08*

I love the amount of detailed science this developer provides on their website but this app isn't usable and it is mostly a documentation problem.
1. The lower limit on breathing rate is stupid and immediately meant the pace was too fast for me.
2. Nowhere is the circle explained.
3. It isn't biofeedback unless there is something that's feedback for me. Just following the pacer is guided meditation at most.

I hate to say it but stop trying to explain (or defend) the science and tell the user what they should do.
If you aren't certain what that means then you need to spend more on UX

No response from the developers after two weeks and there's a bug where it starts showing the pulse as being in the 30s even when it clearly isn't and there is a strong signal

### 2/5 — Not really biofeedback

*2021-05-03*

Like an another reviewer said, it’s not really biofeedback if... there’s no feedback. Having a real time HRV number on the screen would bring this to 5 five stars for me.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works perfectly

*2025-09-23*

Not sure why other peeps cannot use it, works perfectly for me with all the features as described. Got it in the package with all the other apps! Marco has really good tips on his blog, insightful!

### 5/5 — Excellent app, but could use some updates

*2025-07-27*

This has all that I need for using biofeedback to try to improve my training. It is basic but excellent value.

One improvement I'd like to see is better login handling. I've been randomly logged out recently for some reason, and it's a bit of a hassle to log back in. I would also like to see integration with password managers to make this process smoother.

### 5/5 — My second review

*2024-04-05*

One of the best health apps.

It has helped me increase my hrv be mindful of my breathing throughout the day.

Doing two 20 mn sessions a day was needed to get to that point.

One thing that is missing is an audio cue for people with bad vision or that dont want to look at the screen especially at night.

### 5/5 — I am surprised…

*2023-08-08*

I am surprised how quickly the biofeedback session brings me to the present moment. Which means I am in a calm state . It happens within a minute . I wasn’t expecting it . I have practiced meditation ( 11 minutes) , hypnosis ( Reveri by David Spiegel of Stanford) , PQ reps ( Positive Intelligence by Shirzad Chaman of Stanford) and this method gives results the quickest.

### 5/5 — Nice app!

*2022-11-29*

Thanks to this app, I am able to do a daily HRV feedback session and see my progress over time🤩
Thanks Marco for a very reasonably priced and well designed app!!

### 5/5 — Gamechanger

*2022-11-20*

I bought my iPhone SE just to use these apps, and they do not disappoint. Major boost to daily insight into your health, with a reliable way to induce parasympathetic nervous system response and relax into being a healthier person.

### 5/5 — Best App for HRV insights.

*2022-04-21*

Beautiful and data driven for HRV improvements.

### 5/5 — Great Biofeedback App

*2021-11-07*

This is a great app for learning about and measuring your heart rate variability and works with the camera on your phone. It uses a breathing exercise to measure and improve your heart rate variability, which is an indication of the health of your nervous system. The breathing exercise can be customized to your preferences. There’s heaps of additional information available and the app developers got back to my query straight away!

### 5/5 — A powerful meditation tool

*2021-10-27*

I’ve found this tool incredible helpful for dealing with stress and fatigue.

My only improvement would be a more subtle way to notify the peak and trough of the breathing cycle.

### 5/5 — Best meditation / breathing app - check HRV

*2021-09-29*

Simple way to do deep breathing . Simple interface with customizable breathing rate and method to check resonant frequency. Tracks streaks and 7day time for motivation / consistency
