### 2/5 — Not very easy use

*2017-11-08, version 3.4.0*

Had to fad about about with this app to get it to work. I don’t know if there are some bugs that need fixing maybe as it crashed a few times.

### 1/5 — Don't update unless you have to

*2017-06-02, version 3.1.1*

Old app was excellent. This app looks fancier, but is unclear and crashes.

- Example of poor clarity: after searching, there are two "information" buttons that look the same (an "i" in a circle) that do differ t things.

- Example of crash: search for a train, click on info to see details of the journey, then hit back and it crashes.

### 1/5 — Simply won't connect to the server

*2016-06-27, version 1.88*

Says it all, forget and delete

### 2/5 — M-Tickets just aren’t happening

*2015-12-02, version 1.88*

The app works well enough as a means of checking train times and buying tickets, but there are loads of apps for that and websites on a desktop are still better. Where this app *should* win is the provision of M-tickets, which are tickets stored on your phone, getting round issues of losing / forgetting paper tickets. I happily used the app for this purpose for about a year, but I don’t now. The problem is that whenever I go to purchase an advance fare from the app it will only sell me a paper ticket for standard class, when often it will sell me an M-ticket for the exact same journey in first class. You used to be able to get standard class advance fares as M-tickets but it’s very hit and miss now. The result is that the app has lost it’s USP as far as I am concerned and I have stopped using it. I suspect that the problem is with the info that Hull Trains are putting into it, not the app itself, though from a user’s point of view that makes no difference.

### 2/5 — works well BUT BE WARNED

*2013-09-02, version 1.75*

This works great, but please be warned that if you use the Mticket function and need to change the time of your train or cancel your journey , Hull trains are unable to help in any way and can't do either of these things.

### 1/5 — No family and friends railcard option!

*2013-07-26, version 1.71.02*

Useless for buying tickets as no option to add a Family and Friends railcard.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2011-11-10, version 1.07.77*

Just a skinned version of thetrainline app. Gives you odd options for a Hull trains app such as trying to book trains in Devon, rather than useful information such as how late they're running today.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Latest update keeps signing out

*2026-03-09, version 5.0.1*

Every time I sign in, then close the app, it looses my sign in and I have to do it all over again. FaceID etc is turned on, but doesn’t stop being signed out.

### 1/5 — App never works

*2024-11-03, version 4.54.0*

I have updated this app every time I have tried to use it but this app never works. I am sick of wasting my time on it

### 1/5 — Bad Ticket Refund Policy

*2023-10-20, version 4.39.0*

I booked a train ticket 2 weeks ahead of my journey for a job interview and 24hrs before my journey, my interview was cancelled. I applied for a refund and I was told they can’t refund me because it wasn’t a medical reason. This is how they stripped me off my hard-earned money of £30 for my return ticket.

### 1/5 — Hopeless app

*2023-03-17, version 4.35.0*

Unable to book any journey on the app as will not allow me to register an account. Have tried multiple times and keep getting an error message pop up saying ‘new user error_0001’
Needed to book a train to London and had to get a friend who already had the app on their phone to book me a ticket in their name. Rubbish.

### 1/5 — Pointless App

*2023-02-23, version 4.35.0*

Tried to book a ticket, wanted an e-ticket for next day travel, would not give me the option, only collect at station. When I contacted customer services, they suggested using a laptop or desktop in their response and ensuring my software was up to date.
Like we carry laptops around! The software was updated before I used it and I was logged in. No mention of it may be a fault with the app and would refer to IT.
I regularly use train company apps, this is a poor comparison to the others. Needs some serious work.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work, can’t log in!

*2020-09-02, version 4.12.2*

The app doesn’t work and you are not able to log in! I’ve tried about 10 times now to log in and have deleted the app and reinstalled it about 5 times too! It keeps coming up with the same error message. The IT department said they had some difficulties but it should be working, but it still doesn’t! It’s the only app I’ve ever had problems with!

### 1/5 — No idea

*2018-05-03, version 4.1.4*

There is no m-ticket option and it comes up with a error when I press delivery options. No idea what to do with it

### 1/5 — Trains are great app appalling

*2017-11-16, version 3.4.0*

Hull trains ar the best but the app just keeps getting worse with each update and website pretty ghastly too. I buy tickets one at a time to avoid confusion.

### 1/5 — Wow... what a downgrade

*2017-07-12, version 3.1.1*

I really liked the old app. No idea why it has been replaced with this garbage. It screams out "Developed by a cheap offshore outfit" as the usability is terrible. It just took me 25 mins to book two tickets due to bugs and general usability issues, e.g... remember my preference is extremely forgetful.

Bring back the old app and write this one off.

### 1/5 — When the cleaner develops your app

*2017-06-18, version 3.1.1*

This app is so poor I can only assume that there was a mix up and the office cleaner was put in charge of developing it. Sign in may remember your username depending on which part of the app you're signing in to, it certainly won't remember that you've actually signed in - not just when restarting the app - actually in the same session. When you've actually found a ticket - including trying to work out why the same ticket occurs multiple times in your choice of fare for no apparent reason - the chances are the button to buy it won't work. Though it may take you to the Hull Trains website so you can start all over again in a browser in the app. You can also (try) to buy tickets for other TOCs - though unlike the previous app, you can't get the tickets on your device; which is really useful when it tells you that you can buy anytime up to departure - though collecting from the station is difficult as the trains pulls away from it with you onboard. Hopefully they'll employ someone whose brain hasn't become addled by fumes from a bottle of domestos for the next version.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — lovinghulltrainapp

*2018-04-30, version 4.1.4*

Simple to navigate site. Seating/ coach preferences available and selection process easy.

### 5/5 — Very impressed

*2014-09-23, version 1.81*

Works a treat

### 5/5 — Mr

*2012-08-20, version 1.15.78*

Best app so far, quick and spot on with the times and arrivals

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2012-07-13, version 1.15.78*

Best travel app I have used so far. Needed to get a ticket fast so used app to check times select ticket class then buy, easy. Picked ticket up from machine at Kings Cross within the hour. Have not had the opportunity to try the electronic tickets yet but looking forward to using the app again. Just gives the info you need in a non cluttered interface even showed live arrivals and departures from selected station.

### 5/5 — .

*2012-02-05, version 1.10.40*

has always worked well for me, though to be honest I use it rarely.

### 4/5 — Really good app, just small improvements needed

*2014-06-15, version 1.80.00*

Great app and very useful. Much better now the eTickets are available for use. 2 suggestions:

1. It would be great to be able to choose aisle, table, forwards etc. when making seat reservations.

2. It would be good to have a link to the HT timetable for quick reference, rather than having to scan through the journey planner for HT services.

Keep up the good work though.

### 3/5 — Not consistent.

*2019-11-24, version 4.11.1*

Hull trains are a great service when there in service however that’s the point “when they provide the service”. The amount of times I’ve had my train cancelled leaves me with a thought that I can only give a three star service feedback!

### 3/5 — Food

*2019-03-23, version 4.7.1*

Hi trains are great but food in 1st class could be healthier.

### 2/5 — Always a technical issue

*2026-03-10, version 5.0.1*

Every time I try to search there seems to be a technical issue so it doesn’t work. Why? Here’s a tip. Just copy the trainline app.

### 2/5 — Blocked from us abroad

*2023-05-19, version 4.36.0*

Trying to book tickets in advance for my return to the UK. Forced to use the website instead of the app.
