## What is HuntShield?

Tired of paying for a stack of subscriptions just to do the one thing you actually planned on — go hunting? HuntShield is your all-in-one hunting multitool: regulations, 3D scouting, lidar, land, recovery and meat yield in one app, with the field tools still working when your signal doesn't.

KNOW IT'S LEGAL BEFORE YOU GO

Pick your state, the kind of ground you're hunting and the date. HuntShield lays out what's open, legal hunting hours, the licenses and tags you need, blaze orange and gear rules, plus the Don't-Get-Caught laws hunters actually get cited for, each linked to the state's own regulations.

The Trip Planner builds a pre-trip checklist, the Season Guide lists every season and bag limit, and your gear, sits, harvests and licenses live in one record. Checks you've run stay on your phone for when the signal drops, and Hunter members get a push and an email when their state's rules change.

SEE THE GROUND, NOT JUST THE MAP

3D terrain with slope, aspect, thermals and scent drift, and the sun tracked through the day. Switch on lidar to see the bare earth under the trees — the benches, saddles, draws and old logging roads that funnel deer — and let HuntShield mark the likely ones for you.

STAND THERE BEFORE YOU GO

Drag the Stand View figure onto the map and look around in first person, built from the real USGS lidar scan: the actual trees at their measured heights, the brush, the lay of the land. Check your shooting lanes from the ground, a ladder or a tower. Where no scan exists, you get a model from terrain and canopy data. Save a stand and it opens with no signal.

FIND THE THICK STUFF

The brush layer reads the lidar scan to show where the cover is thick two to ten feet off the ground — the bedding cover a satellite photo can't see.

CONDITIONS FOR EVERY HUNT AREA

Weather, wind, pressure, sunrise and sunset, moon phase and species activity for public land and WMAs, plus a moon and rut calendar by species.

FIND LAND TO HUNT

Public ground is crowded and private ground is who-you-know. Browse land by the day, season or party, see the rate up front, and book it in the app.

WORK THE BLOOD TRAIL WITH NO SERVICE

Built to work offline. Tell it where the animal stood and where the shot hit, and it walks you through the sign, how long to wait and which way to push. (Hunter)

KNOW THE YIELD BEFORE THE PROCESSOR DOES

Twenty species, whitetail to squirrel, with the cut breakdown. No scale in camp? Measure the girth for a weight estimate from published equations for nine big-game species.

IDENTIFY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT

Species identification that runs on the phone, even with the bars at zero.

FOR LANDOWNERS

List your property, set day, season or party rates, manage bookings and issue guest permits.

WHAT NEEDS A SIGNAL

Straight answer: the marketplace, community and bookings need a connection, a new regulation check or lidar view needs one the first time, and maps are downloaded once to work offline (Hunter). Saved checks, saved stands, saved maps, blood trailing, meat yield and species identification work in airplane mode.

WHAT IT COSTS

Free: 3 regulation checks a month, 2 gear scans, a trip plan, the meat yield calculator, the moon and rut calendar, a 5-record harvest log, and the land marketplace — browsing and booking are free.

Hunter, $14/month, starting with a 14-day free trial: unlimited regulation checks, regulation change alerts, blood trailing, offline map downloads, GPS tracks, waypoints, sit log, compliance certificates and cross-device sync.

Landowner, $35/month: everything in Hunter, plus parcel claiming, guest permits, food plot planning, property listing and booking management.

Regulations are compiled from state wildlife agency publications and reviewed against the source, but you are always responsible for the rules where you hunt. Verify anything that decides a shot.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-30

Lidar comes to HuntShield: see the ground under the trees, stand where you'll hunt before you go, and find the thick cover.

LIDAR ON THE MAP
• New Lidar layer: 1 m bare-earth terrain from USGS, with the trees removed, so benches, saddles, draws and old logging roads show up. It says where lidar exists and when it was flown.
• Features: HuntShield marks likely saddles, benches, pinch points, ridge points and the heads of draws. Tap one for what it is and why it matters.
• Brush: shades where the cover is thick two to ten feet off the ground, read from the raw lidar scan, and says whether the scan was flown with the leaves on or off.
• Lidar can be included in offline map downloads.

STAND VIEW
• Drag the Stand View figure onto the map and look around in first person, built from the real USGS lidar scan: the actual trees at their measured heights, the brush, rocks and logs, and the lay of the land.
• While you drag, the figure floats above your finger on a target ring that marks exactly where it will land, and blue on the map shows where the real scan exists. Elsewhere you get a model from terrain and canopy data.
• Look from the ground, a ladder or a tower, and tap the ground to walk.
• Save a stand and it opens with no signal.

FIXES
• Fixed a crash when opening some species in the Season Guide, including Mississippi waterfowl.
• Sunrise and sunset for a hunt area now show in that area's own time zone, with the zone named, and are a few minutes more accurate.
• Hundreds of season dates re-checked against 2026-27 state regulations, with new Colorado and Nevada big game hunts.
• Falconry-only and youth days no longer read as open to everyone.

PLANS
• Hunter now starts with a 14-day free trial.

Plus many smaller fixes and improvements.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-25

Tag and permit requirements for all 50 states, more accurate seasons, and a better profile.

ALL 50 STATES
• Tag, stamp and permit requirements are now included for all 50 states.
• Hunts that need a stamp or endorsement rather than a tag now name exactly what to buy, and duck, dove and other migratory bird hunts no longer ask for tags that don't exist.
• Species that can be trapped but not hunted now say so, and every closed species tells you why.

MORE ACCURATE SEASON DATES
• Waterfowl seasons rebuilt zone by zone in 15 states from the 2026-27 regulations, including early teal and September goose seasons that were missing.
• Split seasons now show their closed days as closed. Previously a season with a break in the middle could show as open during the break.
• Hundreds of season dates re-checked against state wildlife agency sources, with corrections where they differed.

SMARTER PERMIT AND TAG CHECKS
• Scan your licenses, tags and permits from a photo or PDF and save them to your profile. iPhone photos (HEIC) are supported.
• Add your home state so resident-only and nonresident-only rules are applied correctly. Your home state stays private.
• If your permit is for a different area than your planned hunt, your hunt now warns you.
• Your hunt now tells you when a season is closed in your hunting unit or zone.
• Western hunts show their game management unit on the hunt card.
• New "Access Program" land type for walk-in and hunter access program land.
• Clearer wording when a permit doesn't apply where you're hunting, so it's never mistaken for an all-clear.

HARVEST REMINDERS
• One tagging and check-in reminder per animal, with the actual deadline date.

HUNTER PROFILES
• Optional public profile. It's off unless you turn it on, and you choose to share it. Names in the community feed and leaderboard link to profiles that are public.

Plus many smaller fixes and improvements.
