It’s glitchy and I cannot count on it to send emails in a timely fashion or often at all. ### 1/5 — Longtime User Disappointed by Recent Update *2025-07-03, version 1.62* I’ve been a loyal Hushmail user for over 7 years and have always been extremely satisfied with the service. Throughout this time, I’ve consistently recommended it to friends and colleagues due to its reliability and security features. However, the recent update has completely changed my experience for the worse. The iPhone app now crashes constantly, making it virtually impossible to use. This level of instability is absolutely unacceptable for a premium, paid email service that users rely on for their daily communication needs. I’m genuinely puzzled why the company would release such an obviously unfinished update. For a service that charges premium rates, users have every right to expect a stable, functional product. The current state of the app is simply unprofessional and falls far short of the standards I’ve come to expect from Hushmail over the years. I sincerely hope the development team addresses these critical issues promptly. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend this service to anyone, despite my years of previous satisfaction. I often get messages showing an error that cannot display the email. Sometimes when I try to reply to an email that I can’t see, it gives another error showing that it cannot open up a new email to reply. ### 4/5 — Good App *2025-06-18, version 1.61* I don’t find this app to be buggy, as others have noted. I find it reliable and easy to use. The only thing I wish they would add is the ability to attach secure forms to an email. As of now, you have to use the desktop/browser version non to accomplish this. I find that this company is always striving to make improvements and their customer service is on the ball, speaking as a paid subscriber. I use this in a HIPAA work environment and I’m glad to have it. ### 1/5 — Not sure why you even have an app *2025-05-22, version 1.59* I am somewhat baffled as to why you have this as an app. First it shows up as a tiny box on your screen like you are looking at your phone sized box on the entire iPad screen. Second hushmail allows you to make templates. While you can see templates, there is no easy way to use them for a new email. If I wanted to just read my email without any of the associated features, I would just do it in outlook. Which is what I will be doing. ### 2/5 — I cannot sign in… *2025-05-08, version 1.59* I put the password in, the app takes it, and then puts the same password box again and the app freezes and has to be restarted… for exactly the same thing to happen again… We are paying for this service. Please do better. When the app is reliable again, I’ll change my review. ### 1/5 — Never works right and no follow up *2025-04-12* This app very rarely works and when it does not work good luck trying to get anyone to follow up from customer service. I have had an error message that it cannot connect to the server for my inbox for days now. I’ve emailed customer service and I received a generic response to other links that don’t address the problem. The fee of $50 per year for service is worthless if I can’t use the app to access emails from my clients. Do yourself a favor and find a different email provider. **Developer response:** Hello. Or go to web service site with same name to send. ### 1/5 — worst email app *2024-12-20, version 1.55* iphone had an update that included a password app which instructed me to change my hushmail password saying it was compromised. the app didn’t save the suggested strong password so the password was lost. hushmail doesn’t allow you to reset your password if you don’t know the current one. so i lost all my contacts and have to get a new email and order all new business cards. ### 2/5 — Error loading message *2024-12-18, version 1.55* I am having the same issue others are, and I cannot even submit feedback in the app, I get another error message. I’ve contacted them a number of times about the fact that there is often difficulty connecting to their servers and my response is usually that I need to restart my phone or delete the app and re-download it. I’ve also recommended that they have an option that you can print your emails from the app, but I got a very generic response thanking me for my feedback and that they are “constantly updating their product”, yet this is still not an option. Imagine that in 2024 you can’t print directly from your email app on your phone! ### 3/5 — Messages won’t load *2024-11-22, version 1.55* Far too often the messages won’t load from the app and I have to use my laptop to access my messages. It is quite frustrating. It happened again today. I wish this would be fixed once and for all. ### 1/5 — used to be great *2024-11-15* was a fantastic app for secure email. for the past 2 months, i’ve been unable to get the app to allow me to respond to emails. i get an unexpected error has occurred with no info on what it is or how to fix it. i have to go to the desktop version which is pointless as i use my phone for communication when traveling for work. used to be able to respond in minutes, now have to wait hours. **Developer response:** Hi. The attorney in question lied and said I had sent threatening emails, and the Canadian court granted an order to disclose information. Hushmail neither attempted to fight the subpoena or notify me. And while Hushmail can’t decrypt the body of messages, it CAN and does provide header info, geolocation, IP addresses, billing information, and subject lines. Understand too that Hushmail was NOT prohibited from notifying me. Bottom line, Hushmail does NOT protect your privacy. And again — I did not do anything illegal or unethical. ### 1/5 — App Works Occasionally *2026-04-22, version 1.70* I have had Hushmail for many years and their app is just horrible. It’s so bad it basically makes Hushmail almost completely unusable. Today after suffering through the app for several years and reloading the app several times I was about to switch to another email company, but as the last resort, I downloaded Microsoft Outlook onto my iPhone and it seems to be working with my Hushmail account. I’m actually able to send and receive emails reliably now. It probably would’ve been easier to go through a different email service, but I’ve had this email address for several years and didn’t want to give it up. With the Hushmail app in in the App Store with a rating as low as this, it’s really a poor sign of a business to put out such a garbage app in the App Store. I also tried just using the email by logging in through their website, which seems to work better but is more of a hassle. Sorry Hushmail, but you need to have an app that works more than occasionally. Honestly, because of this, I would not recommend using Hushmail. ### 1/5 — I beg you, please update the app *2026-03-24, version 1.70* Notifications have now stopped working. For a professional service this app is embarrassing. Please, hire new devs to fix this app—it has been chronically bugged for several years now. I can’t get any new email to load in a week despite receiving notifications that they are arriving. After buying a new ph had problems. Now locked out completely! Hushmail is going to do reversible damage to the YEARS of notes documents and all the accounts we have set w them. Yes I wrote Hushmail yes I could for ONE DAY see the emails but could not respond. Now every hat is gone so how in world can I even begin to clean this mess up?! I saw a lengthy response an could NOT respond for help. Then it ALL went down! No clue how to even get tot hem to “set up” a time for a call. The email is gone! We need help ASAP! Yrs and yrs of files. Everything poof! Mind blowing! There has to be a way to not lose it all. But right now I need a way for me to at least see my emails and respond! I am tired and retired now days. A functional, secure, easy to use email is all I need. For about the last 5 years I have had a Hushmail account. While no email is perfect, Hushmail in my opinion is as close as it gets. 95% of the time I access my email with this iPhone app. Only one time have I sent in an issue and support immediately fixed the problem. The Hushmail staff are great folks with a mission to provide a fantastic service.
