Sliders need tweaking. Crashes. *2026-03-25, version 2.6* Update 25/3/26: seems to crash a lot when taking HDR photos and processing them. I’ve tested photos and video from both the version 1 and version 2 Hydra and can honestly say that the results from the legacy version 1 are just that same and in some cases even better than the newer Hydra. Therefore I wouldn’t pay £4.99 to upgrade. The 110mp shots from the new version look less sharp than the original Hydra at 32mp. The older version wins in macro too. I’m not sure how version 2 is any upgrade at all. It would be nice to be able to double tap on the sliders and make them reset back to zero. It’s hard to pull the sliders to zero because they’re so small. And it would be good to be able to save your HDR settings to that every picture you take is tweaked to your own personal taste. Also, I’m not clear what the difference is between the PRO (rolling monthly/yearly payments) and the full version is. Are you saying that if I were ti pay for the full version I wouldn’t get updates that I would with the pro version ??. I like the app, because it lets you control focus and the UI is intuitive. The rest… is not as good as the iPhone camera. I appreciate that there is no need to create an account to use it though. I have a concern of privacy. There is no way to erase photos in the hydra library. If you erase a photo from your device’s photo library, the photo is still permanently in the hydra previews. It is not clear where this is stored or how to remove it. There is also no way to “add to photo library” again from the hydra app after deleting a photo from your photo library. This will make content management a pain. It is not made clear in the app what features are paid/watermarked and which are not. And the big X in the center is obnoxious and not transparent so you can’t see what is behind it and it ruins the shot, which would be fine for a trial version if you knew it was trial, but it doesn’t show the watermark until after the photo is taken which could make you miss a special moment you thought you had. I find this deceptive to try to get people to pay for something they thought was free. The watermark should show in the preview. The frame rate for editing seems laggy. The iPhone editor UI is better and more user friendly and able to tweak settings more delicately. Altogether, although it’s better for manual focusing close-up than the iPhone app, I don’t want to chance a watermark on a shot I thought I had with an accidental setting that was unclear as paid, and it is not worth the cost to upgrade just to ensure a good shot using a focus setting. The other features I found to be nothing special and I am going to keep looking at other camera apps. This app is a 1/100 use case for me, if I had a still, non-changing micro photo to take. ### 1/5 — Mostly Oudated 1st Gen AI technology… *2024-12-20, version 2.4.2* With a 2nd Gen Price-Tag. (iPhone 8+). - el modo de alta resolución, solamente da resultados aceptables con condiciones lumínicas específicas. - el modo zoom no funciona, no hay diferencia alguna de entre x3, x6. La app usa la cámara de teleobjetivo y el resultado es exactamente igual que con la app nativa con ampliación x2. La app nativa da mejores resultados. - el modo macro no vale para nada. Mejor hacer la foto con alta resolución y recortar. - los archivos raw son inservibles, desde que hagas un mínimo ajuste en post producción, aparecen artefactos raros y se queman las luces. - en modo baja luz si consigue reducir el ruido, pero tiene un rango dinámico demasiado justo. Si tienes alguna luz de farola en una calle, se queman las luces y el resto queda demasiado oscuro. Las sombras no se pueden recuperar porque sale ruido de colores en los laterales -las fotos resultantes de esta app siempre salen 2 o 4 pasos más oscuros de lo que se ve en pantalla. - el editor es muy pobre, solamente permite pocos ajustes y es incómodo. Deberían de poner los ajustes de la aplicación nativa de fotos. - la interfaz no me gusta y no resulta cómoda. - los mejores resultados solamente se obtienen en jpg, y hay que editarlos con un procesador de imagen externo porque son muy muy planos y lechosos. Para mejorar la aplicación, deberían fusionar los diferentes modos de fotografía, permitir alta resolución en todos los modos y cambiar la interfaz completa. Mejorar los ajustes manuales de exposición. Quizá si permitiera hacer hdr en alta resolución y con baja luz, permitiendo la recuperación de las sombras, mejoraría bastante. También optimizar la aplicación para que los dispositivos no se sobre calienten. Es kamen immer gute Bilder raus. Jetzt kann man sie total vergessen. Mit der Mainkamera (16 Pro) bekommt man mit manueller Einstellungen einigermaßen etwas hin, aber nicht vergleichbar mit der originalen App (um Welten besser). Mit der Telekamera bekommt die App gar nix hin. Ausserdem ist bei mir in den Bildern ein Gitter bei dunklen Bildern im Bild. Hab die gekaufte Version. Würde die App nicht mehr kaufen oder nutzen. ### 1/5 — Mehr Schein als Sein! *2025-03-29* Wie im Titel zu entnehmen ist die App leider nicht wirklich dass was sie promotet. Leider hat die Gesellschaft es verinnerlicht alles was Müll ist, als Gold zu verkaufen… Kritik wird heutzutage nicht wirklich mehr verbreitet und sinnvoll genutzt und das gleiche spiegelt sich eben in dieser Apo wieder. Die Apo verspricht scharfe Fotos und eine höhere Pixeldichte durch KI. Leider ist die App nicht viel mehr als eine Alternative zu der nativen Kamera-App von Apple. Die Ergebnisse sind sogar weitaus schlechter als mit der normalen App. Das einzige was die App bietet ist eine nachträgliche Bearbeitung der Bilder nach dem Auslösen. Dafür hat man aber die Galerie des IPhone mit weitaus mehr Möglichkeiten und Funktionen. I can definitely say that this camera app got a lot of use! I have owned a lot of camera apps over the years, but this one I consistently come back to. I basically took all my pictures with Hydra, and XP4N (a little bit unknown camera app that takes panoramas in one shot, and supports a few nice live filters—look it up). I’m a semi-pro photographer (self-proclaimed lol), but didn’t bring my DSLR. When I take a picture, it's a meaningful expression. I don't just snap a million photos and try to sort through them later. This app has a wonderful HDR mode with a nice UX for quick editing a photo immediately after taking it. You can also save an unprocessed photo, several different photo formats (JPEG, Adobe DNG, Apple ProRAW, etc), as well as HDR image formats like 32-bit TIFF, and then save them all at the exact same time you initially take the picture! You can also get some good super-resolution pictures in Hi-Res mode, and the best macro mode and low-light mode photos capable on a mobile device, IMHO (limited by hardware and lenses). There is a lifetime purchase option, and they do keep it updated although every major version release requires a new purchase (which is why the subscription option may actually fit you better if you only plan on using it once in while). The company has been around for a long time, and I'm confident they would have addressed any issues that I had, if I had ever needed support in the first place. I would no-doubt recommend this app to anyone interested in taking good pictures on mobile!
