### 4/5 — Missing the text

*2022-11-27, version 3.3*

Missing the front text part of the hymnal as well as psalms

### 4/5 — Hymn App review

*2020-09-09, version 3.3*

I wish it noted the hymn tune, composer, or lyricist. Which are very important when planning to sing hymns

### 4/5 — Good but missing stuff

*2019-11-12, version 3.3*

As a clergy person, I love having this app on my iPad. I also have a Bible app and the two are invaluable when I am on a retreat or visiting sick or home bound. That being said, I wish this app had all the pages including the Psalms, the Creeds, the Communion and Baptism services, as well as all the indices in the back which are useful when trying to tie hymns with scriptures. I know this is an “unofficial” hymnal app and maybe that’s why the entire hymnal isn’t included. So maybe this is the UM Publishing House opportunity to create an official hymnal app. It would be nice to also have an official Book of Worship app.

### 4/5 — Worship Leader has some reservations.

*2018-10-02, version 3.3*

I like the app and use it multiple times during the week. As the music minister at our church I have found the app to be very helpful, but, as others have pointed out, there are no responsive hymns in this version of the hymnal or anything else having to do with the order of worship.

My "little old lady and gentlemen friends from the places I play really enjoy singing these hymns and when I'm outside, I don't have to worry about music blowing away or out of place.

### 4/5 — Very good app!

*2018-05-20, version 3.3*

I got this app to help me in selecting hymns for my services when I'm preaching. What would make it great is if it had more playable samples of the hymns! Though, overall, I am very happy with it.

### 4/5 — METHODIST Hymnal

*2016-10-10, version 3.3*

I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy this app. I'd love to have some piano also, but the organ is great! Recently I sat next to a dying friend and sang to a few hymns in her last moments. What a holy time! Thanks!

### 4/5 — What I've been looking for

*2015-10-17, version 3.3*

I've played at my dads church since I was a little kid. When I visit another church, Its is a great resource to take if I'm visiting & a church needs something on the fly. Many churches now have gone to lyrics only and do not have hymnals. Thus this is a GREAT resource.

### 3/5 — Can't view just lyrics

*2015-08-26, version 3.3*

According to the "help" section you can view lyrics only but doesn't show that option in settings.

### 4/5 — Love the app

*2015-08-02, version 3.3*

I use this every Sunday. Some hymns are missing and the readings would be nice to have. And is there any plan to make the other hymnals into apps? Like the faith we sing and I forget what the green one is called.

### 3/5 — Disappointed :(

*2015-06-08, version 3.3*

Not enough audio!

### 4/5 — Very Useful

*2015-02-10, version 3.3*

The app is easy to use and very helpful for worship planning and trying out new hymns that may not be familiar. The audio files for the more well known hymns are fine, but it would be helpful if there were more audio files for lesser known hymns. It would also be a great addition to have the audio files for the communion responses and other "acts of praise" and psalters.

### 4/5 — Useful more ways than one!

*2014-09-01, version 3.0*

I'm excited about using this app!! I just got it, but have lots of plans of using it many ways. I plan to use it at church for my 2 kids & myself who are visually impaired. I know we can use the large print Hymnals our church has but this app will be more convenient more so for my kids as they will be able to enlarge the print bigger, but also I'll be able to teach them (who are very young) at home how to read/sing the music as it's more difficult to learn than a regular seeing person does. I also have recently volunteered to help with doing the Liturgist part of the church service, as I will hope to use this app in the future for that as well as I have contacted the creator of this app & says they will in due time add the rest of the Hymnal. I've also suggested more options for changing the background color, screen brightness, etc options as he has also agreed to attempt. I'm just grateful for the time & hard work put into this & the added music you can hear/play is an added bonus!

### 4/5 — Great App

*2014-08-07, version 3.0*

I have enjoyed using this app the last few Sundays. I emailed the author and was told that adding the rest of the responses, etc. would be happening next year (2015). That would the only reason I do not give it 5 stars. Otherwise the app works great and I find it very easy to locate hymns and load them for the Sunday service. This in conjunction with forScore is the perfect Sunday service combo!

### 4/5 — Great resource for worship leaders!

*2014-07-01, version 3.0*

This app is fantastic! No more marking pages in the hymnal on Sunday. I just set my bookmarks for the service and lead the hymns directly from my iPad. Everything typeset and crystal clear. Only thing needed is more indexes for service planning.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Methodist Hymnal

*2012-05-31, version 2.2*

This is a WEAK entry. It has hymns from the public domain that happen to be in the Methodist Hymnal. the same hymns seem to be in other collections.

It ALSO would benefit from including all of the readings.

We need ever improving app development for ministry. We need hymnals on keynote, for example. As we become savvier we can make sure copyright holders get their due and still use technology.

### 2/5 — Description

*2022-07-31, version 3.3*

The description is misleading. Most songs that I selected didn’t have an audio file.

### 2/5 — Too much missing

*2016-09-20, version 3.3*

Wish I had read a few more reviews. There are very limited audio files it says about 100 many seem missing. Also no readings, Since I purchased because I can no longer turn pages in hymnal I was very disappointed with how much isn't there.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2015-11-03, version 3.3*

Where are all the audio files???!

### 2/5 — Missing much

*2011-12-22, version 2.1*

I like what is there, but I wish it was the full hymnal. For example, the liturgies for baptism and communion would be important, especially for pastors who use the ap. Also, it's disappointing that half the songs (particularly the newer ones) are missing.

### 2/5 — Only Okay

*2011-12-11, version 2.1*

I just found this app before church this morning and was excited to use it. It is nice to have the hymns on my iPad. However only about half of the hymns are in the app. The text is not consistent with the hymnal (I found this true for all 4 hymns used this morning). The keys are not consistent with the hymnal - which could cause problems if you are playing with brass. Extra rests are present in the score (I assume from inputting music in layers within a music notation software). Stem directions are inconsistent and don't show voice leading. The first recording of a hymn that I played had a "klunker" within the first line.

Finding these problems the first time I used the app, I'm wondering what more I'll find.

The promotions promote clear scores -not scanned music. I think that scanned music might have more accuracy.

A start, but needs attention to detail.

### 3/5 — MscMnstr

*2021-10-17, version 3.3*

Add written responses, please. Make keys available for modulation. I would pay $9.99 for those services...

### 3/5 — It's ok

*2019-11-09, version 3.3*

It just doesn't have everything in it! It makes it frustrating

Why does it jump out of the app back to my home screen when I try to enter a hymnal number. I tried deleting app and re-download but it hasn’t fixed it. Please help

### 3/5 — Not bad for a partial hymnal

*2016-03-24, version 3.3*

Only the most familiar hymns have audio files and, where are the responsive readings? I give it 3 stars; if ever the complete hymnal comes out, even at more money, I'll give it another rating. Until then, it is better than nothing but could be better.

### 3/5 — Nice but missing

*2016-01-17, version 3.3*

Having the book available on my tablet is great but it's missing a lot that is only in the printed copy. As an example, today we were to read aloud page 885...but it is not there...actually most of these readings are not available...if I wanted to grab the book to read from, I wouldn't have purchased the app. So it is a little misleading. As for having the songs available, yes this was a great purchase.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app for sure

*2022-04-20, version 3.3*

Love it

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2019-11-01, version 3.3*

I use this app on a weekly bases. Initially I had a problem with it but turned out to be an IOS issue. Customer service responded in a timely manner and checked back with me to make sure my problem had been resolved.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-07-03, version 3.3*

It's a great out that way I don't have to carry the whole him know with me with my choir music

### 5/5 — Great (and portable) Resource

*2016-02-18, version 3.3*

I like being able to have the UM hymns everywhere I go. It is also much easier than lugging a hymnal along with loads of music into worship service.

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2016-01-17, version 3.0*

This app is great. It doesn't have audio for the more contemporary songs, but those don't set up well for a traditional arrangement anyway. I typically rearrange the more contemporary songs (like the ones by Bill Gaither or others written in the 1970's, for example) more to my liking anyway. You're more likely to find versions of those songs on iTunes. For some of the much older traditional hymns, this app is the only place I've been able to find any audio. Plus the purpose of the app is to provide the music for playing an instrument, not listening to an audio file. This app had to take a lot of effort to write because every song had to be individually charted. Definitely worth the price.

### 5/5 — Tradition at its best

*2015-04-20, version 3.3*

Methodism has always rejoiced in hymn, praise, and worship...this encompasses all...

### 5/5 — Very helpful app

*2015-03-24, version 3.3*

This app is incredibly helpful to me as a worship leader. Easy to use, easy to search for what I'm looking for. Nice job!

### 5/5 — Super app!

*2015-01-04, version 3.2*

Got this for my wife who has vision problems. It is great, allowing her to enlarge the songs, and the clarity is superb!

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2014-09-21, version 3.0*

This is a joy to use during service while accompanying congregation. Bookmark them and sort in the order of worship. Makes for easy moving from one hymn to the other. Thank you for producing this.

However, with update of ipad to new iOS, app keeps shutting down when trying to use!

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2014-06-15, version 3.0*

I loved this app even when it only had 300 songs because it is much easier to hold an iPad than the hymnal while singing in the choir. It is so fantastic that we have all of the songs now. I would have paid for the upgrade, thank you for providing it as an update. Worth every penny!
