## Newest reviews (10 of 50)

### 3/5 — Missing some schedules

*2018-03-26, version 1.4.2*

Compared with web version

### 1/5 — To devs...figure out a pricing model that makes sense

*2018-02-23, version 1.4.2*

And you’ll have plans of happy paying app users. But the subscription model you have currently is unjustifiable.

### 1/5 — It’s free online

*2018-02-09, version 1.4.2*

Yes why pay if you can use it free from their website. Save your money and use the website. It’s not worth paying for it

### 1/5 — Ridiculous

*2017-12-23, version 1.4.2*

No reason for this to be a subscription-based app. Save your money and use Navitime or Google.

### 1/5 — Why pay monthly when you can use the website?

*2017-10-21, version 1.4.2*

It does what I was looking for but paying a monthly or even yearly free is crazy when you can use the website for free. I don’t mind paying a one time fee but anything other than that is wasteful. Save your money and use their website.
Also the user interface needs to be worked on

### 2/5 — Needs an Update!

*2017-05-28, version 1.4.1*

It works, but it has not been updated in over two years! The developers need to update this app, to optimize its performance!

### 2/5 — Great service but a monthly fee?

*2015-08-28, version 1.4.1*

I use Hyperdia for everything but I find it extravagant that this app has a MONTHLY fee. A one time fee would make sense and I would buy the app no problem but I don't see any point to pay for it every month when the website is free and works just as well as the app. $3 a month is by no means expensive but not necessary for this app. The service gets 4 stars from me but the app gets 2 because there's no point is paying for the app when I can just use the webpage.

### 5/5 — Best Train App for English Speakers

*2015-03-06, version 1.4.1*

This has got to be the best app available to use when trying to use the Japanese train system. It's shows you the transfer times and you can even narrow your search to certain types of trains (ie. Shinkansen limited express, or local train). I used this for an entire year in Japan and it never let me down. I could not travel without this.

### 5/5 — A lifesaver

*2014-11-06, version 1.4.1*

Don't be put off by the cheapskate reviews. The subscription price is a bargain to have instant access to very reliable routing through and across Japan's various rail services. The voice input feature works quite well also.

### 4/5 — Good, can't buy

*2014-03-11, version 1.4.0*

It says I haven't downloaded when I bought 1 month... Knowing more track numbers and correct names would help a lot!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2022-10-08, version 1.4.2*

The app keeps crashing

### 1/5 — Timetables outdated

*2022-06-06, version 1.4.2*

This worked great 3 years ago. Purchased a renewal, then learned the timetables are way off. Most be an abandoned app.

### 1/5 — Recently became useless

*2022-05-18, version 1.4.2*

I have used this app for years to preplan rail travel in Japan and to track progress during the travel by the station schedules that were part of the information provided. Please bring back the previous version. My coupon is current and I would like to continue using the app which I have recommended to many fellow travelers in the pass.

### 1/5 — Departure Times Not Listed

*2022-05-07, version 1.4.2*

This app stopped showing departure times. It’s now useless if you don’t want to guess what time your train will arrive. Unless this is fixed the app is garbage.

### 1/5 — What happened???

*2022-04-10, version 1.4.2*

This app was great up until a couple weeks ago. All of the train times now list minutes for some reason. Matching up the train times made travel for me (non Japanese speaker/reader) so much easier. Please fix this the minutes don’t help anything!

Edit: just noticed another issue. They removed what platforms you arrive and depart from. This is a useful piece of information for long trips. Please fix this!

### 1/5 — Great app that is now worthless

*2022-04-06, version 1.4.2*

This was a great app until a few days ago. It showed the times of departures for the trains which was extremely useful. I used the app all the time. Not it just displays minutes that don’t even seem to connect to the train schedules. I don’t know why thy would make this change. Now I have to look for a new app to use.

### 1/5 — Crash When You Use In App Purchase

*2020-02-01, version 1.4.2*

It’s an ok, but not great app for train travel in Japan. Some of the app’s suggested routings can add hours to a trip (one JR rep kept asking why I was willing to add two extra hours to a trip to Aomori-Shi by following the app’s recommended itinerary).

Biggest problem came at the end of the free use period. I tried to purchase an extra month using the in-app purchase mechanism. This failed, so now when I try to use the app, I get an endlessly spinning wheel that says connecting, but it never connected. Still got charged the $2.99 of course.

It’s a failure.

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2020-01-26, version 1.4.2*

Used to be a 5 star review but now 1 as the app doesn’t work on either my phone or my wife’s phone after we updated and bought another month of use. It just sits frozen on opening screen even after closing and restarting app making it useless.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-02-21, version 1.4.2*

Why is it 3.99 a month (that starts on the first so if you buy it on the 15th, you only get 1/2 a month!!) Also the interface is old and clunky. I just found JAPAN TRAVEL and it is excellent and has travel articles. I recommend you use that instead.

### 1/5 — Unable to contact support

*2018-04-21, version 1.4.2*

I must've done something wrong on the purchase as I'm unable to contact customer support in English. Everytime I want to switch to English or asks if I want to purchase a coupon. I can't cancel the purchase because the email pops up in Japanese.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great tool for traveling around Japan

*2019-07-06, version 1.4.2*

Used this for 2 weeks during a recent trip to Japan. It was so amazingly helpful! I loved the ability to specify transportation types and companies and to sort by price/time/transfers. The only difficult part is if you don’t know the name of the station you are going to or from, it can take some guesswork.

### 5/5 — Good train apps for JR pass in Japan

*2019-04-27, version 1.4.2*

I traveled in Japan in Tokyo , Sendai , Kyoto and Osaka , I used this apps to catch all the train , they were very accurate .

### 5/5 — Old app, but useful for Japan Rail lines

*2019-04-18, version 1.4.2*

This is such an old app, but it’s a must have for JR lines especially since neither Google nor Apple Maps are good at routing on JR routes. This is also helpful for rapid (bullet) trains.

### 5/5 — Must have when traveling to Japan

*2018-07-11, version 1.4.2*

We were in Japan for 8 days, went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima and this app was a lifesaver! Works well especially since we have a JR Pass, filters out what bullet trains we can take.

### 5/5 — Use this app all the time, but...

*2017-06-02, version 1.4.1*

IOS has flagged this app as not being able to run on the next version of IOS.

Wait for it to be updated before purchasing.

### 5/5 — Best train app for JRRail pass!

*2017-05-18, version 1.4.1*

Works amazing for JRRail pass users and brought me to multiple city's on time for free!

### 5/5 — A necessity for touring Japan

*2016-06-23, version 1.4.1*

I had great success solo navigating the country when using Hyperdia in conjunction with Google Maps

### 5/5 — Best useful train app for foreigners in Japan!

*2016-06-23, version 1.4.1*

I am currently traveling in Japan. I tried to use Google maps and Apple maps at first but both maps didn't provide enough detailed alternatives for train rides. I have been using this train app to look at all the different trains going from Osaka to Kyoto and vice versa. I get to see and choose from super express Thunderbirds, wide view Hida, Shinkansen, or new express train. For JR pass holders, it is a no brainier to ride a more comfortable and quicker train. This invaluable train app has made my train ride decision so much easier as a foreigner in Japan. 100% recommended.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2016-06-16, version 1.4.1*

This is a must have if you are traveling in Japan. Simple and easy to use. Put in station start, destination and time and it spits out many different options and carriers.
Great app.

### 5/5 — Handy train schedules, especially if using JR pass

*2015-04-21, version 1.4.1*

Used this while visiting from the US and traveling on my JR pass. Was better than their website, very handy for planning. Google maps is great too for transit planning but this shows train options at various times very clearly. Filters allow you to easily find options that you want.
