### 5/5 — Superbly designed app

*2019-07-23*

This is a beautifully designed app - no faux parchment graphics, just a clear, elegant and simple presentation of the readings. If I could change one thing, it would be great in readings with changing lines to be able to tap on the hexagrams to toggle between them, and maybe be able to swipe left and right through the pages of the reading. Otherwise, this is easily the best and most useable I-Ching app I’ve seen.

**Developer response:** 🥳 So glad you like it! THANK YOU for taking the time to review! And as of version 10.0.0, one of your wishes is granted: swipe left and right between pages now enabled!

### 5/5 — An important thing

*2018-07-26*

This is a great rendering of the Book of Changes and in no way lessens the beauty and profundity of the book. I think Carl Jung would use this and John Cage too, if they were around and had iPads! Thanks.

**Developer response:** Nailed exactly what I'd consider the greatest honor in the world! (Well, though Brian Eno in there as well for a complete set!) Thanks!

### 5/5 — Good

*2018-07-13*

After using the app for a long time, I had some problems with recent versions. I was frustrated so I left a review reflecting that frustration. But then Mr Fitzgerald appended the most gentlemanly response I've ever seen, so I'm ashamed to leave the original review as it was. It is a very useful and functional way to use the I Ching (I used to carry a miniature paper copy + notebook !) and I highly recommend it to everyone. Peace and love 🌿

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the updated review. It means a lot. I'm human, and the app will always have its flaws, but it's feedback like yours that keeps helping me improve. Thus we strive. 100 tortoises cannot stop us.

### 5/5 — Love this App !!!

*2017-10-15*

I have been using this app on my tablet in conjunction with The Original I Ching Oracle by the Eranos Foundation with concordance and the App is very accurate along with the book that goes into detail with the App is awesome ,love it !!

### 5/5 — Thanks

*2017-10-09, version 6.2*

This app has been a very useful and joyful source of wisdom to me. Thanks

### 5/5 — Great I Ching app

*2017-06-04*

Easy to use. Well designed UI.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2017-05-06*

A very nicely done, accessible I Ching. I appreciate the backstory provided, too.

### 5/5 — Cool app

*2017-01-21*

Thoughtful

### 5/5 — Excellent version

*2016-12-31*

Carl Jung would have been happy to have this one on his phone- great to use, unfussy, untechy, respectful of the original. The journal feature is great for storing readings and referring back. Well done!

### 5/5 — I Ching

*2016-12-18*

I really like this app: clear and straightforward layout and lots of helpful tools. The journal is a good idea. Recommended. A nice experience.

### 5/5 — Good app and decent version of I Ching

*2016-12-16*

The app works well, looks good and it's good to have proper yarrow-stalk probability.

The version of the I Ching is OK. Not unlike the Wilhelm version.

The journal is great as it allows you to save readings.

One suggestion is that it would be good to be able to add your own notes to this.

**Developer response:** Good point. I'll see what I can do about adding notes. For now, I made the question editable upon save so you can add any length of text to the question. Enjoy, and thanks!

### 5/5 — Absolutely a great companion app!

*2016-10-01*

First off, I have been studying this book since I was a teen...22 years, and it had never let me down. I had always been curious about the yarrow stalks method but its such a laborious effort that I felt the coins way was most convenient. Now I have a chance to try that way because by reading Brian's story about how he made his program and the heart he put into it, I could not pass him by. His light shone through in all the darkness around. thank you Brian, kindly.
It has been nice to see your updates too!

### 5/5 — Love this app!!

*2016-09-02*

Informative, interesting and very easy to understand yet also intriguing enough to inspire contemplation.

### 5/5 — Very well thought out.

*2016-05-22, version 4.0.6*

I use it weekly to reflect and ask for guidance

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2016-05-09*

Excellent

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Poor

*2017-03-31, version 4.0.6*

No commentaries on the lines !

### 4/5 — Really like the app, but…

*2022-08-25, version 12.2.3*

Sometimes tapping the Yin Yang button selects and highlights it and that can cause it to stop registering taps.

Also, is there a way to clear the “Ask” box for a new inquiry rather than manually deleting the text? That would be a useful feature.

**Developer response:** It took me a year, but your wish is granted! I've added a "Clear" button to version 14.0, released today. Such a good improvement, I cannot believe I didn't think of this in the 8 years I've been developing the app. So thank you for the suggestion AND the reminder of the power of cognitive diversity and the wisdom of crowds.

I also fixed (MOSTLY) that problem with selecting and highlighting the YinYang button. I can't disable iOS "Long Press" there, so if you hold and press on the button it'll still get a highlight, but the more casual highlights when the screen mistook a button press won't happen now. Changed the element from a hyperlink to a themed button, and that fixed it. Again, thanks, that one was bugging me as well. Please can I have five stars now????? ;-)

### 4/5 — Clunky interface and commentary

*2018-01-09*

Good commentary and reasonable interface.

### 4/5 — New to I - Ching Great Start!

*2016-12-28*

I'm very new to the I Ching, but want to learn more. I really like this app which provides readings for my meditation and contemplation. I can't speak to the absolute accuracy of the symbols, but together with a few books, Tai Chi and willingness to learn I think this app will help me on my path.

### 4/5 — Useful App.

*2016-12-03*

This is a great app. for generating a hexagram, but I would have a copy of the Willhelm Baines in your iBook app. instead of relying on the developers inrepretation. No offense, bro, just found your intepretation somewhat lacking. Peace!

### 4/5 — Smartly simple

*2016-04-27*

Simple to use, however rich in its content !
The I-Ching app for immersing yourself in the future proposed by the Book of Changes.
Great work Brian !

### 4/5 — Good app

*2016-01-25, version 3.5.9*

Thanks! Really helpful to understand the change of life.

### 4/5 — Clean and complete

*2015-09-22*

The readings are a bit obscure or difficult to understand, but then again that just may be a good thing, allowing the subconscious to find what it will.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2025-11-14*

Perfect I Ching app for me— straight to the point and easy to use, with wonderful options for translations and casting.

### 5/5 — Scholarly and restrained

*2023-12-07*

This app has everything I need to explore and record my interactions. So far, it’s flawless.

## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Sincerely the best I-Ching app on any platform

*2023-11-25*

The method by which hexagrams are generated is eerily prescient, thanks to the extensive work Brian has done to bring the superior yarrow stalk method into the digital age. You can also cast your own hexagrams and the app will help you log your reading.

The translations for each hexagram are thoughtful and brilliant and open doors for reflection I wasn’t aware needed opening.

The app is austere and simple, and that’s to its credit. It loads quickly, has a full library of hexagrams that can be searched, a record-keeping system and a easy backup method that doesn’t rely on an expensive cloud system.

I have purchased this app on multiple platforms and will continue to recommend it to others. I’ve emailed Brian with questions and suggestions before and he’s been quick to reply.

I am eternally grateful. ☺️

### 5/5 — Super user friendly edition of a classic.

*2023-09-28*

If you are an I Ching user then this is one of the easiest and most succinct apps.

Of course it’s I Ching lite but as ever it’s still I Ching precise and I always have a well thumbed edition of the Wilhelm translation standing by if I need to go deeper on any reading.

Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Excellent app, best one around!

*2023-02-11*

I’ve been using it since day one, and it has become perfect over time. All the other I Ching apps I’ve tested are a sorry joke compared to it. Don’t waste your time and plunge for it if you’re serious about using this oracle.

**Developer response:** ❤️❤️❤️ Nico, you've been giving me great and constructive feedback since 2016! Thank you so much for this review. I've sent you a message with a little easter egg for super users like you.

### 5/5 — The best I-Ching app out there!

*2022-10-13*

I’ve tried my share of apps for the I-Ching, and this app hits the nail on the head in most regards. Simple and clean UI, multiple casting methods supported, and excellent translations make this my go-to app for consulting the I-Ching

### 5/5 — Best I Ching app

*2021-05-01*

Thank you, for all your brilliant skill and time devoted to creating this app. 🙏

### 5/5 — Quality App. Developer very responsive

*2021-03-02*

He was open to criticism and took all feedback seriously. Very few people like that. Please support. Not all app developers are out to make your money and squeeze you dry. There are some that are driven by a sense of mission.

I feel that this developer wants to help change your life.

We can debate whether I-Ching is pseudoscience but to those that believe in apps that are

- Quality
- Ease of use
- Ability to effect change as a user through feed back

Then you are at the correct place.

Once again this is a unbiased review that I leave here. As of 2march2021.

If ever anything changes I wouldn’t hesitate to email developer and leave a honest review as I see it. I am sure he would do his utmost and bend over his back to improve.

Yours
Siao.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much! It's users like you who take the time to write with suggestions and bug reports that help me continuously improve the app.

### 5/5 — Amazingly good

*2020-11-15*

I used to consult the I Ching 40 years ago by using yarrow sticks and Richard Wilhelm’s book. I have kept the yarrow sticks but find now my old fingers cannot manipulate the sticks as I used to. I was amazed to find this app. It is simple and easy to use. I like the journal facility too. Altogether a pleasure to use.

**Developer response:** Glad you like it. The next version, out soon, will have the entirety of the Wilhelm/Baynes translation as an option. (It was my introduction to the I-Ching as well)

### 5/5 — Recommend

*2019-09-21*

It is easy to use. Journal good feature

**Developer response:** Really glad you liked it. Just a note that the confusion you mentioned in your original review about hexagrams appearing to be generated from the top down is now fixed in version 14.0, released today. I finally figured out how to lock that bottom line in place so there's no confusing "push down" effect.
