### 3/5 — Needs a ‘remove word button’

*2019-03-18, version 1.6.1*

There are a lot of words that I do not want to learn At All so I am a little upset that I don’t have an option to Remove words from the flash card list. That would make this app 5 star.

I a visual learner, so this helped my with learning kanji really well but the spoken words do not want to stick in my mind compared to learning words with pictures.

### 3/5 — Doesn’t fit on screen

*2018-09-25, version 1.6.1*

I also have an iPhone SE and parts of this app doesn’t fit on my screen. I like this app, however, it’s rather annoying when I can’t select the right answer. I hope this can be fixed in the future.

### 3/5 — Good for vocab

*2018-06-24*

Good study tool for vocab but when using the quiz now, the forth option is cut off from selecting. Maybe it’s only for phones with larger screens? (Have an iPhone SE)

### 3/5 — Great app

*2018-06-10*

I would be prepared to pay for this app, but it doesn’t fit to the screen of my iPhone 7. Please sort it out. This app is fantastic for quizzing myself on vocab!

### 3/5 — Good but desperately needs proofreading

*2018-05-21*

The quizzes are good how those are broken out into 3 types, but there are some rough edges. Several example sentences are unrelated to the study word, and the translation of some words are wrong, eg 生物 = raw food, when it should be living thing. The is no furigana for the examples, so sometimes it’s hard to work out the readings. All these slow or hamper the educational benefits of the app. The app developer could be more responsive to feedback. I still lean on the side of recommending the app for the variety of drills offered, but I really wish it gets a brush up by an expert to improve the educational value.

### 3/5 — Disappointingly worsened

*2018-03-28, version 1.6.1*

My previous review was below but now I think there is a bug and loads of the answers are incorrect with no option of selecting the correct one - ie I was drilling myself the WRONG Japanese and there is no way other than review of contacting the developer. It’s deteriorated disappointingly.

Can't believe no one has reviewed this app, it is excellent. I love the reverse function ie English to Japanese and the fact that you can read ALL the words you've done contextually in proper sentences. There is a function to hear the word which is effective if you wish to. Overall I find it simple, effective, engaging, fun and cute! My favourite study app so far - and I have loads:) . K

### 3/5 — Unfitted screen

*2018-02-08, version 1.6.1*

I used to like this app, very good for studying kanji. However, after updating, the app's screen is too big for my 5S screen. If you have a small screen iPhone (earlier than ip6), don't update the app.

### 3/5 — Good

*2017-10-08*

Good practice but the pronunciation voice sound is not something you want to replicate or even pay attention to. The reverse mode is by far the best for studying. Wish there was a way to group words more easily than favorites.

### 3/5 — .

*2017-03-26, version 1.5.9*

It's Need to have easier way to learn kanji..

### 4/5 — Great for vocabulary !

*2017-01-11, version 1.5.8*

This app is great when it comes to learning new words in Japanese, as well as a variety of useful kanji. However, it does not go in to depth on how those words are, or can be, conjugated when used in sentences.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2016-12-16, version 1.5.8*

Pretty useful but room for improvement. Multiple choice makes it easy to think you know vocabulary just by eliminating the wrong answers. Would be nice if could quiz only on words marked as favorite.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2016-11-18, version 1.5.8*

Love the app. I also love the achievements, they motivate me.

### 4/5 — It's good for vocabulary, but...

*2016-11-15*

If you just want to expand your vocabulary then this is a good app however I wished there were themed grouping of testing, like one section would be food, the other be greetings, something like that. However the app does not provide much help in anything else. But I guess if you end up learning all the words you'll have a rough understanding of what a Japanese person is saying.

### 4/5 — Needs improvement

*2016-10-16*

This is an app okay if you want to study all 700 words in the beginners level at once. That is impossible at discouraging. We need to be able to work on a smaller group of words repeatedly. Say like 10-20 words specific words. Not 10/20 of 700. Once the app implements that I will give it a 5 star.

### 5/5 — Quick Reviews

*2016-07-10, version 1.5.6*

I use this app to review JLPT vocab I already know and to easily learn and review words I don't know. The interface is simple and easy to use. The audio doesn't sound robotic, which came be very distracting for me.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2016-06-24, version 1.5.6*

This app has just the right amount of questions and it is easy to do quick study sessions on the train, or when you have a little break. The vocabulary is vocalized which is a great help. Great for picking up your vocabulary.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2016-03-07, version 1.5.6*

This app gets you going. I am motivated to learn because I want to pass ever level!😀

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hopes dashed - immediate letdowns

*2021-03-06, version 1.6.1*

I just bought this app, and I’ve noticed that it has some pretty serious issues. I began a quiz, but the bottom choice (the 4th of 4 in a multiple choice quiz) is cut off, and you only see a thin slice of the very top of that word.

Also, each page of the quiz needs to be centered. Currently, it’s too far to the right.

Each page of the guide needs to be centered. They are currently too far to the right.

The settings page needs to be centered. It’s too far to the right.

The home page seems centered, but there’s somethign at the top-right that seems to need moving over to the left. Right now it appears to be cut off.

I really wanted to just dive right into this app, but with selection in quizzes being cut off, there’s no point in trying right now, until the app receives a thorough revision and update.

### 1/5 — Not functional

*2019-09-09*

Only three of the four multiple choice answers show up on my screen, must not be suitable for smaller phone screens. I have an iPhone SE.

### 1/5 — Fail

*2016-08-25, version 1.5.8*

The limited free Japanese pronunciation voice does not work.

### 1/5 — New update crashing

*2013-08-13, version 1.4.0*

The new update is not staying open. Please fix.

### 1/5 — $$$

*2012-08-10*

Each level costs extra $

### 1/5 — The app keeps crashing

*2012-03-04*

I couldnt even open the app, it crashes everytime i try to. So, I wasnt able to see the contents just yet.

### 2/5 — Incorrect

*2014-09-21, version 1.5.2*

The only thing, is that some of the pronunciation is wrong and some of the kana is misspelled.

### 2/5 — Bad editing/many errors

*2013-09-30*

This is no good. I'm a complete newbie at Japanese, but even I can spot this application is riddled with errors, example sentences aren't quite right, mixed up words (such as mixing up green and blue) etc. The premise of the app is good, but the editing is awful. They have a 'report error' button, but needing your audience to correct you sort of defeats the purpose of a vocabulary study guide. I worry, how many wrong things am I accidentally being taught from this app? I really hope you guys get a better editor, it could be a really great app.

### 2/5 — Rating system????

*2013-01-21*

How exactly does the rating system work? When I press one of the stars to indicate my familiarity nothing happens. The rating system was why I bought this - to prioritise my learning. Disappointed.

### 2/5 — Has serious problems

*2012-09-23*

While I like the look of the app, there are problems in it's word lists that make it unusable at times.

For example, on some words the voice doesn't match the reading at all. Also for the kanji quiz, it will sometimes show a blank question making it impossible to answer correctly.

If these problems were fixed it would be great.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Sehr gut

*2025-09-14*

Mega gute App um den Wortschatz zu erweitern. Die N4 bis N1 Pakete sind auch sehr günstig und die App ist einfach super gut!

### 5/5 — Really fun!

*2021-04-17*

I’ve been using this app for quite a long time and first used it on an iPod touch
Now using it on iPhone 12 and it works perfectly 😊
Really hope to see some updates one day!

### 5/5 — Review

*2019-10-15*

A nice APP for learning Japanese vocabulary.

### 5/5 — 很好的软件

*2018-05-13*

用得很舒服，谢谢，请继续加油。

### 5/5 — 软件很好，但…

*2018-03-30*

是不是因为这次更新的缘故，我几个果5都看不到第四个选项了，只能选前三个😂

### 5/5 — Great way to build vocabulary

*2018-03-15, version 1.6.1*

Great tool to help you build vocabulary in both spoken and written format. However, you’ll probably make better use of this app if you learn the Japanese alphabet and some basic grammar beforehand.

### 5/5 — Great app, highly recommended

*2017-07-30, version 1.6.0*

Very helpful for learning vocabulary. But I wish there was an option to quiz with all words for each level. The 100 words per quiz limit is too small. Need to take the quiz more than 6 times before all the words will appear. But other than that, I'd say it's a perfect app. 5/5

### 5/5 — Love the audio and quiz option

*2017-07-10, version 1.6.0*

I go through the quizzes to learn my vocabulary and I find it extremely helpful to have hiragana katakana and kanji all on one page. Thanks for a wonderful app!

### 5/5 — Quick, easy, perfect

*2017-07-04*

I just love this little app. You get a lot of words for free, plus there are three modes. It doesn't have SRS or anything too fancy but your word familiarity is ranked by 0 to 3 stars so you get to "level up" your words.

### 5/5 — Great for memorizing lots of vocabulary

*2017-01-04, version 1.5.8*

Some formatting issues in the word explanations, but still a fantastic app! Comes with 669 words free, almost 8000 in the full version. Very happy I found it.
