### 5/5 — My Go to app to ID Birds

*2020-01-04*

Nothing fancy just simplicity at it’s best.
Tried it out on a known bird from a photo I had taken a few years ago & it came up with 3 choices ranging from 0% Confidence to 6% to 95% Confidence (Barred Owl which was correct) The other 2 options were also Owls.

I’m happy with it & look forward to using it more.

I’d def recommend it for identifying birds.

It also connects to iBird Pro & you have the option of sharing your photo (if you have the copyright or permission to share) with the Developers for Internal Purposes.

The app even opens your mail Program, writes the email, attaches the Photo & all you have to do is click send if you wish to share.

Just tried with a few more common birds & results were excellent.

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2019-10-01*

I have recently been getting into birding and have been searching for an app that makes it easy to ID a bird. I tried many. I found entering descriptions like “prominent color” and trying to match silhouettes to be challenging but THIS app is it.

Take the picture...crop it...and done! Now I can do that!

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2019-08-06*

So easy and works like. Dream!

### 4/5 — Best on line birding app

*2019-06-21, version 1.2*

Fantastic amount of information and constantly updating

### 4/5 — Works quite well

*2019-05-29*

Successfully identified most of the bird pics I’ve tried

### 5/5 — Easy way to identify backyard birds

*2019-05-20, version 1.2*

I use it often and am well satisfied, particularly with its ability to analyzing blurry or poorly focused photos.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app!

*2019-05-10*

Says it all!

### 5/5 — Beginners

*2019-04-21, version 1.2*

This program will allow new birders to I.d. birds that would otherwise be a frustrating effort. GREAT birding tool !!

### 5/5 — Mr N Pearson

*2019-04-09*

Excellent app. Very high success rate in identifying birds

### 5/5 — Wow! Yup, that good

*2019-03-15*

I have been photographing outdoor life for quite a while. I only recently found this app. I had a number of led birds in my photos that I could not identify, even with Bird Guides.
I used the app and,in seconds, answers came back that further research proved to be correct. It is amazing. Gives you 3 birds with likely percentages of being the proper ID. Mine were all in the number 1 selection. Thanks for this app iBird.

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2019-02-17*

This is a handy app. Even recognises pics I take right off the back of my SLR. Identified a Swamp Sparrow for me yesterday that I might never have figured out on my own. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Outstanding App

*2019-02-01, version 1.2*

A friend recommended this app. All I can say is it is very accurate. Even when I can’t get close to the bird, and have to zoom and crop the pic, so far this app has never missed. I’m very impressed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t match the bird

*2021-05-23, version 1.6*

Picture of Robin identity not even close. Feel like I’ve been ripped off.

### 1/5 — Didn’t correctly identify birds

*2020-12-29*

App didn’t correctly identify any birds I took photos of.

### 1/5 — Poor Accuracy

*2020-11-26, version 1.6*

I have tried several birds of known identity and the app is wrong.

### 1/5 — Finally found a solution to get Photo Sleuth to work with iBird apps

*2020-05-26, version 1.6*

I purchased iBird Pro. Making me buy another app just to make photo sleuth work is a questionable marketing tactic

### 1/5 — Not Helpful - Waste of $

*2019-05-12, version 1.2*

Did not recognize common geese or swallows. The email to provide feedback also did not work. Waste of $10. I do not recommend.

### 3/5 — Won’t Download

*2020-04-21*

This app worked great before. I was really impressed with how accurate it was. It’s definitely better at identifying birds than I am. Now for whatever reason, after the app offloaded to the iCloud briefly (we don’t get many birds I don’t recognize during winter) every time I try to redownload the app the download doesn’t finish. I hope it’s not because of the price increase.

I guess the good news is that I can still use iBird Pro to identify birds; it’ll just take a little longer.

### 3/5 — This is what’s been missing all along!

*2018-08-06*

Yes, this is what’s been missing all along! How many times have I seen a new bird and then fumbled through the identification portion in iBird, only to be frustrated by not being able to identify the bird? I’m sure this has happened to everyone. Now don’t get me wrong, iBird Pro is an excellent app. But, iBird Sleuth is an amazing addition to this program. As soon as I installed it, I tried out. Unbelievable! Good call, guys.

### 3/5 — Still needs work

*2018-05-27, version 1.1*

While this app was able to correctly identify most of the birds in photos that I challenged it with, it was to identify others that should have been obvious, even after multiple attempts. When I submitted the same photos to my Merlin Bird ID app, they were identified correctly on the first trial. The Merlin Bird ID app was free as opposed to the $4.99 that I was charged for iBird Photo Sleuth!

### 4/5 — Sleuth does not load as in-app purchase of iBird Pro.

*2020-12-12, version 1.6*

Had to pay for it TWICE! And then buy the stand-alone app.

### 4/5 — Fun app

*2020-04-02, version 1.2*

Love being able to identify what birds I see from a photo.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Long Time Fan of Mitch’s Wirk

*2025-11-10, version 1.13*

I’ve had a problem with the “fly catcher” bird. I swear today that plasma screen’s are made with fly blood.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-05-23, version 1.12*

Nearly always nails the result but if in error points toward the actual result even with my poor photography.

### 5/5 — Our go to bird resource for years

*2025-05-05, version 1.12*

We are not bird listers. We love birds, life stats etc. iBird has been a great aid to us and an easy introduction for friends and family.
We highly recommend iBird after novices purchase their first bird identification book.

### 5/5 — Ripped Off

*2023-06-03*

I’m an avid birder in South Texas. A few years ago I purchased the iBird app and it included photo sleuth. A few days ago photo sleuth was gone. A person reached out to me and said it’s been reinstalled.

Wrong.

Just a classic and common way that companies get greedy for money. How sad this is how our country has become.

### 5/5 — My favorite bird app

*2023-03-12, version 1.6*

The photo sleuth feature really works (most of the time) and really helps me confirm my bird ID.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2020-08-15, version 1.6*

I know my birds, but sometimes I’m not confident, I need help and this app hits it on the button love it!! 💕

### 5/5 — Great tool for Birders!

*2020-05-19, version 1.2*

I love being able to verify what bird I was able to capture with my camera. It is amazing how well it works.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-04-20, version 1.2*

This app makes birding for novices so much easier! I have been looking for an app like this a long time.

### 5/5 — A+!

*2020-04-09, version 1.2*

Wonderful and fun to use!

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2020-03-30, version 1.2*

I am grateful to have an app that helps me learn about my bird friends. I take pictures of birds, and it is joy to get to know them. Thank you!
