## What is iCab Mobile (Web Browser)?

iCab Mobile is a web browser for iOS. iCab Mobile is customizable in almost all areas and can thus be made into your very own personal browser.

PRIVACY:
In private mode, no private data is saved permanently. Special private tabs increase privacy even further, with only a small loss of comfort.

PROFILES/USER ACCOUNTS:
Any number of profiles/user accounts can be created, with each profile having its own settings, bookmarks, etc. Profiles are suitable for an iPad that is used by the whole family, but also for users who want to separate professional and private surfing.

TABS, WINDOWS:
iCab Mobile can open any number of websites simultaneously in tabs. Tabs can be saved and organized in groups so that they can easily be loaded together again later. Tabs can be protected against accidental closing or overwriting. 
On the iPad, multiple app instances can be opened as windows (Stage Manager, Split View), even with multiple profiles simultaneously (since iOS 18).

FILTERS:
Filters can be used to block advertising, trackers, etc. Popular filter lists can be used directly (Easylist, AdBlock Plus, uBlock & compatible), but you can also define your own.

USER INTERFACE:
The user interface is freely configurable. Action, context and text selection menus, toolbars and gestures can be adapted to your own needs. 

ACCESSIBLE:
The user interface is barrier-free and adapts to the system font size and is compatible with VoiceOver.

BOOKMARKS:
Bookmarks can be organized in folders. “Smart folders” create special collections based on self-defined rules (e.g. the latest bookmarks from the last 2 weeks). Colored labels allow further categorization.

DOWNLOADS:
Download any files and manage the files in the download manager, including unpacking/creating ZIP archives, exporting/importing, etc.

SEARCH:
The app offers a large list of search engines (self-expandable) that you can use to search directly on the web. It is also possible to search on the current page.

WEBSITES:
You can define what websites can and cannot do. Highlight important content with a highlighter, hide unwanted elements, allow buttons to be clicked automatically (e.g. for cookie messages). Control permissions for camera, microphone and sensor usage. Pro users can even inject JavaScript and CSS code into websites to customize them to their liking.

EXPORT/IMPORT:
All data can be exported/imported (for creating backups, data synchronization with other devices/apps)

WIDGETS:
Widgets allow you to control the App and open bookmarks directly from the home screen. Websites can also be displayed directly there.

APPLE WATCH:
Open websites directly on the Apple Watch (albeit limited). Remotely control iCab Mobile on the iPhone from the Watch.

The app includes a store where you can give us a tip via InApp purchase to additionally support the further development of the app. The development of the app takes a lot of time and is a lot of work, which the low purchase price cannot cover. Te sources of income used by the big popular browsers, such as advertising, deals with search engines, tracking etc. are not an option for iCab Mobile. 
Tipping is completely voluntary and you won't miss out on any important features if you don't tip. However, users who tip will be given the option to change the app icon as a thank you.

this was privacy focused before privacy was a thing. you'll use less data and browse faster. the developer deserves legendary status.

### 11.3.1 — 2026-07-14

Solves a new issue that could prevent that links which are supposed to open in a new tab could not be forced to open in the current tab instead.

### 11.3 — 2026-07-13

- "Kagi" is now another source for suggestions in the address field
- There is a new option in the "User Interfaces" settings that allows you to switch tabs not only by swiping left or right on the web pages themselves, but also by using swipe gestures on the browser toolbars. Especially when web pages contain horizontally scrollable areas, swiping on the page can make switching tabs a bit more difficult; in such cases, swiping on the toolbars can help.
- There is now a new option for "Preferred Language" in the "Websites" settings. Some websites take this into account and then automatically display their content in that language (if available). Previously, the system language was always passed to the website as the "preferred" language; now you can also select a different language.  For JavaScript, this option can be configured individually, since some "captchas" use this information for "bot detection" and then block access if the preferred language does not match the system language.
- Bookmarks can now also be copied to the Quickstarter (if they aren't already there). This option is available via a bookmark's "Edit" view and its context menu.
- Bookmarks and downloads now also allow multiple selections in "Edit" mode by swiping across the selection buttons on the right (empty circle/checkmark)
- Bookmarks accessible via folders in the Favorites bar (iPad) can now also be edited from here.
- The search function in the settings now automatically applies the search term to the subcategories that are open during the search, so you don't have to start the search there manually
- On the iPad, windows in windowed mode now have improved window titles to make it easier to tell them apart
- On iOS 26 and later, when switching between Normal and "Private" Mode, slightly more data from Normal Mode can now be restored upon returning to it (previously only cookies; now local storage as well)
- If you had manually deleted private data in the privacy settings, the displayed values would automatically update after the deletion has finished; however, since the deletion process could sometimes take a short while, you might have gotten the impression that the deletion hadn't worked. Now, there's an indicator shown while the deletion is still ongoing if the process takes longer than expected.
- Bugfix: Fixes an issue in the Quickstarter related to URLs that contain unescaped quotation marks (e.g., in bookmarklets).
- Bugfix: Fixes a rare crash that occurs when loading the icons for the default Quickstarter bookmarks
- Bugfix: Selecting an iCab bookmark in iOS's Siri Search now opens not only iCab but also the bookmarked website
- Bugfix: If web pages are to be loaded with additional information (via modified or additional HTTP headers in the server request, such as "Do Not Track," "Do Not Sell," "HTTP Referrer," preferred language, etc.) and the page is supposed to open in a new window via the original link, it did incorrectly open in the same tab.

### 11.2.10 — 2026-04-17

- iOS 26.4 has a bug which prevents that certain cookies can't be deleted individually anymore (only very few cookies are affected by this bug). However deleting everything (all cookies, web storages etc) at once will get rid of these cookies as well. Therefore there is now a new option available in the "privacy" settings: when tapping the "clear now" button for the option to clear history, Tabs history, Cookies etc. at the same time, you can now decide whether to delete everything without evaluating any filters (cookie filters) or if filters should be still be evaluated. The former option will delete everthing web sites have stored in the browser (and this includes all cookies, including those which would otherwise not be deletable because of the iOS bug), the latter will delete only those cookies which are not declared to be kept (via cookie filters), however until Apple fixes the iOS bug, the cookies mentioned above can't be deleted this way (due to the iOS bug)
- Fixes an issue when importing bookmarks.

### 11.2.9 — 2026-04-09

- New option "Share as PDF" available for the "action" menu. This option shares the current web page as PDF.
- Because the Pocket service has shut down, the Pocket option was removed from the Reading list feature.
- When using the buttons to switch to the next or previous Tab, the new active Tab button will be now scrolled into view
- When using the dark mode, creating new Tabs will no longer show a short "flash"
- An empty page will be now dark in dark mode
- Fixes an issue which could prevent that the contextual menu was not shown when long-pressing a link, if the underlying HTML code for that link was invalid
- Opening web addresses from the clipboard will now work even if the address in the clipboard is incomplete
- The Browser ID setting was ignored for data that was loaded outside of a web site context (like saving images from web sites)
- Fixes an issue with the contextual menu of the contextual menu within the downloads window. When closing the contextual menu and immediatelly opeing it again (within a 0.3 seconds time frame), then the menu did not open
- The reader mode should work better on articles which are split between several ad banners.
- Fixes a bug where a file (image/download) could not be saved if the server provides a filename which explicitly includes a "/" character

### 11.2.8 — 2026-02-23

- There is a new option for the URL mapping feature: You can now also add arbitrary URL query parameters.
- In the downloads window, the context menu now includes the option "Resume all downloads" if there are several incomplete downloads that can be resumed.
- There is a new "Voice Search" feature that can be added to the toolbar or action menu. After selecting Voice Search, you can now start a search directly via voice input. As soon as you stop speaking (for at least 1.5 seconds), the search starts automatically.
- Bugfix: On iOS 18 and earlier, downloads no longer showed progress in the "Downloads" icon itself.
- Bugfix: Fixes minor layout issues in the "Share" extension under iOS 26
