### 2/5 — Wood identifier

*2024-09-11, version 4.1.4*

Needs to have a scan function.

### 4/5 — Tree identification

*2024-06-26, version 4.1.4*

It would be nice to show samples of the bark and leaf configuration, at least in some cases.

### 2/5 — Not what I thought it was

*2023-12-31, version 4.1.4*

I got this app to help me identify the wood in some antiques that I found in EU. I thought it was an AI scan type app but it just has pictures. That might be helpful if there were more pictures with different finishes, but it just has a small piece showing a small part if the grain- pretty useless. Iit is also kind of clumsy. I don’t recommend this one.

### 3/5 — Bien mais peut mieux faire

*2022-12-09*

### 1/5 — No Australian hardwood. Waste of money

*2022-07-28, version 4.1.4*

No Australian hardwood. Waste of money

### 2/5 — Not what I expected

*2022-07-18, version 4.1.4*

Like other reviews, we’d much prefer to take a pic of a piece of wood and have the app tell us rather than determine the type from searching a database with 100’s of possible choices?
Waste of $5

### 1/5 — I.D.WOOD

*2022-04-07, version 4.1.4*

Cheesy app. There are free ones online!

### 2/5 — Not worth the money

*2022-01-16, version 4.1.4*

Shame on me, should have read the reviews before purchase. Not what it seems.

### 1/5 — Not useful to me

*2022-01-09, version 4.1.4*

Thought I could take a picture of the face or end grain of the wood/lumber I’ve got for identification. Shame this functionality would be great. Maybe it’ll be included in future releases.

### 3/5 — Limited

*2021-10-02, version 4.1.2*

Not what was expected from description. Has a use but not extensive.

### 1/5 — Well it does not help you Id a species of wood

*2021-09-19, version 4.1.2*

This app is about as useless as can be when you say ID wood I would expect it to help you figure out what kind of wood your working with. If you u already know what you have then it will tell you about it.

Otherwise it’s a useless app.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-08-04, version 4.1.2*

I was hoping that it would have a camera ability to take a picture of your wood and it would identify it. This is useless unless your just curious about a certain species of wood.
I have bubinga and it looks nothing like the picture on this app. None of my woods match the pictures on this app.
What a waste of money!

### 1/5 — Not What I Thought

*2021-07-17, version 4.1.2*

I thought that this app was much like other identification apps where I could take a picture of the specific type of wood and it would identify it. Instead you have to scroll through a hundred different types to find one that might look similar

### 1/5 — Not I.D.

*2021-06-18, version 4.1.2*

Doesn’t help identify the wood , you basically have to know what the wood is and then it tells what kind it is…. Duh…

### 3/5 — Needs to include more timber’s and metric info

*2021-03-31*

There are a number of common Australian and NZ timbers missing, such as jarra, rimu and kauri.

Would be much better if it included metric values as used by nearly all of the world outside the USA.

### 2/5 — Not a snap pic & identify wood app

*2021-01-10, version 4.1.2*

Shucks... paid for this app hoping to snap a pic of wood & it would tell me what type of wood it is... not so.

### 2/5 — Not what I expected

*2020-11-28, version 4.1.2*

I have a bunch of plant and garden identification apps. They all work the same way, basically you upload a photograph of the plant, weed, insect, flower, or treeYou are trying to identify and it gives you a list of suggestions of what it might be. Unfortunately that was what I thought this app might help me do.Basically if what you need is a master list of every wood and what it looks like and all of its characteristics, basically a reference, then this will be fine. But I was looking for some thing that could ID wood for me. Also the navigation on this is quite frustrating. When you hit the back button you have to go back to the master list and scroll all the way through the list again to get back to where you were. The back button function is not helpful. They need to rework that.

### 4/5 — Love this app

*2020-11-22, version 4.1.2*

I have had this app for a day, but I absolutely love it. Money well spent

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2025-01-09, version 4.1.4*

Thought the app would allow me to ID a piece of wood. A list of all the wood types does nothing for me.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-06-19, version 4.1.4*

If you like just looking at pics of wood - get it. If you want a real tool to identify wood - this is not it. Waste of time & money

### 1/5 — Misrepresentation

*2023-12-08, version 4.1.4*

This App does not identify a piece of wood. Need to be able to take a picture and then ID what you are looking at. Highly disappointed.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2023-12-05, version 4.1.4*

Save your money with this app you can’t even view all the thumbnails at once making it painstaking and almost impossible to actually find out what kinda wood your liking at, for 10$ it’s a complete rip off

### 1/5 — Mis named app

*2023-05-08, version 4.1.4*

I should have read reviews. I want my money back. I’m looking for an app that will identify a piece of wood in my hand.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste $10

*2022-12-16, version 4.1.4*

I thought it would help identify wood trough my camera lens. I didn’t know i would have to go through pictures of every single species in the world and compare it to the piece i am looking at.

### 1/5 — App Name is Scam

*2022-11-16, version 4.1.4*

You don’t realize that this app does not identify your wood until after they charge you $10USD. You have to search their database for wood information. What a scam this is! RUN AWAY NOW!

### 1/5 — Trash

*2022-10-29, version 4.1.4*

This app is absolute trash. I don’t ever leave reviews…but do not spend the money on this. It doesn’t help to identify wood at all.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t match actual hardwoods I have

*2022-09-17, version 4.1.4*

Bad app!! Refund please!!!!

### 1/5 — Not What You Think

*2022-08-09, version 4.1.4*

Very dissatisfied and disappointed. I thought this app would identify wood with a photo or similar but no such thing. It’s another useless app that is not worth the purchase.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Choosing the right wood

*2026-02-17, version 4.1.4*

I find this app to be very useful in choosing the right wood for a project. Good description and information about gluing and finishing. Very Helpful

### 5/5 — Handyman

*2021-03-20, version 4.1.2*

Great product❗️ Tons of reliable info in 1 (1️⃣) Place 👏. Great Pix of wood (Very Necessary for Wood ID). If only 1 critisim it would be, no easy way when looking at wood sample to get back to list, & ability to 'order' wood differently, Otherwise Great ‼️

This App by far is one of the Best on wood identification & usage currently available on iOS devices, AND especially on Retna available devices like iPhones 11 & 12, as well as the Pad Mini❗️👏 Best Pix 🙏

### 5/5 — A Good App

*2017-02-20, version 4.0*

One of the first apps I bought - years ago. I don't use it every day; but, when I do, it is a great resource. Worth every penny.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2016-07-01, version 4.0*

Tons of information

### 5/5 — Great App, great developers

*2015-11-25, version 4.0*

I love the app and all of the features... The BF calculator is indispensable, the glossary is just what any craftsman needs. Developers are very responsive with any help or questions that may arise. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Informative

*2014-10-11, version 3.40*

I'm a beginner wood worker and it had been a great tool for me. Lots of good information.

Sometimes a little confusing to navigate around in.

Would be nice to have more pictures of the wood samples. Maybe a a few different views of the grain.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2014-05-10, version 3.40*

I love it

### 5/5 — Nice!

*2013-09-16, version 3.30*

A little short on some species...especially domestic. Navigation takes some getting used to. Overall, though, a handy pocket-sized tool. Good for showing a customer what wood choices actually look like.

### 5/5 — Worth the money.

*2013-09-08, version 3.30*

This has proven to be very helpful for me.

### 5/5 — Valuable resource

*2012-10-30, version 3.20*

I work for a cabinet shop that builds and repairs furniture. This app is a very good reference and has settled many arguments about identification and usage of woods.
