فریدون مشیری در سی ام شهریور ۱۳۰۵ در تهران به دنیا آمد. جد پدری او به دلیل مأموریت اداری به همدان منتقل شده بود، و پدرش ابراهیم مشیری افشار در سال ۱۲۷۵ خورشیدی در همدان متولد شد، و در روزهای جوانی به تهران آمد و از سال ۱۲۹۸ در وزارت پست مشغول خدمت گردید.
