◉ 반야심경(般若心經)은...

우리나라에서 가장 많이 알려지고 가장 많이 독송하는 불교 경전인 반야심경은 인도의 산스크리트어로 전해져 오던 경전을 중국 당나라의 삼장법사 현장(玄裝)이 한자(漢字)로 음과 뜻을 조합하여 번역한 것이라 합니다.

반야심경(般若心經)의 정확한 제목은 마하반야바라밀다심경(摩訶般若波羅蜜多心經)입니다. 마하반야바라밀다심경이라는 제목은 부처님의 큰 지혜를 깨달아 열반의 경지로 가는 진수(眞髓)의 경(經)이라는 뜻을 의미하고 있는데 산스크리트 원어로 풀어보면 다음과 같습니다.
 
• 마하(Maha) : 크다, 많다, 뛰어나다, 초월하다
• 반야(Prajna , Panna) : 지혜, 깨달음
• 바라밀다(Paramita) : Para는 저 언덕 피안(彼岸), mita는 건너다 라는 뜻으로 바라밀다는 ‘부처님의 세계로 가서 열반의 경지로 가다’로 해석할 수 있음
• 심경(Hridaya-Sutra) : 마음의 경(經), 진수(眞髓)의 경

반야심경의 내용을 살펴보면 관세음보살님께서 반야바라밀다에 의지하여 깊은 수행 끝에 깨달으신 바를 사리자에게 전하시는 형식으로 기술된 경전인데 모든 중생은 반야바라밀다에 의지하여 수행함으로써 부처님의 큰 지혜를 얻어 열반의 경지에 이룰 수 있음을 말씀하고 계십니다.
