השביל מסומן באמצעות פס שעשוי מפליז שהוטבע במדרכות ומחבר עשרה אתרים הקשורים בתולדות העיר ובהקמת מדינת ישראל. 
אורכו של השביל כקילומטר, ומסלולו מעגלי, לאורך מקטע של שדרות רוטשילד ולאורך מקטע של רחוב אחד העם, עם שלוחות קצרות ברחוב אלנבי וברחוב נחלת בנימין.
