본 척도의 특성 및 장점
- 취학 전 아동부터 전 연령군 아동에게 적용이 가능합니다. 
- 평정자는 관찰하기 전 15 문항의에 대해 숙지하여야 합니다. 
- 관찰 시 아동의 행동은 정상 아동의 행동과 비교하면서 관찰하고, 행동들의 특징, 강고, 지속기간 등이 고려 되어야 합니다. 

평정 방법
- 15개 각 항목은 1점에서 4점까지 평정합니다. 
1점: 해당 연령에서 정상 범위내
1.5점: 해당 연령에서 매우 경미한 정도로 비정상
2점: 해당 연령에서 경증 비정상
2.5점: 해당 연령에서 경증-중간 비정상
3점: 해당 연령에서 중간 비정상
3.5점: 해당 연령에서 중증-중간 비정상
4점: 해당 연령에서 중증 비정상 

본 도구를 활용하여 자폐아를 진단-평가하는 목적은 6개월 간격으로 같은 내용의 진단도구들을 이용,아동들의 상태를 재점검하여 교사나 부모들이 아동의 변화 상태를 보다 합리적으로 이해하고 파악하게 하는데 있다. 나아가서 자폐아 행동점검표에 나타난 내용들은 그 하나하나가 자폐아 지도 목표가 될 수 있기 때문에 교사나 부모들이 학교나 가정에서 아동들을 지도하는 내용 그 자체로 전한되어야 한다.
