ويجسد المهرجان استراتيجية اللجنة التي تستلهم برامجها ومهرجاناتها وفعالياتها من فكر المغفور له بإذن الله تعالى الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان «طيب الله ثراه»، في المحافظة على التراث الإماراتي العريق واستمراريته، وبخاصة النخيل والرطب، واللذان يمثلان دعامة أساسية من دعائم المجتمع الإماراتي وتقاليده المتوارثة، وتأكيداً على دور القيادة الرشيدة في ترسيخ مكانة النخيل والرطب والتمور كرمز لأصالة الماضي وخير للحاضر وضمانة للغد.
يعد المهرجان أيضًا أحد أهم الأحداث التراثية والمعالم السياحية في أبوظبي ، حيث يسلط الضوء على العديد من الطرق التي أثرت بها التمور على الحياة الثقافية والتراثية والاقتصادية للبلاد. يوفر مكانًا رائعًا للزوار للتعرف على التمور وتذوق أصناف التمور الأكثر شيوعًا المزروعة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة.
