About
■ Ikebukuro is one of Tokyo's most confusing stations
The department store at the east exit is Seibu; the one at the west exit is Tobu — the opposite of what the names suggest. Exit numbers on the east side alone run from 22 into the 40s. Even regulars get turned around.
■ Pick a destination, get the exit
・Sunshine City → Exit 35, about an 8-minute walk
・Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre → direct from Exit 2b, 2 minutes
・animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store → 5 minutes from the East Exit
…and 28 destinations in all, the places people actually go.
■ See your route on a 3D map of the station
Choose the line you arrived on (JR, Tobu Tojo, Seibu Ikebukuro, Marunouchi, Yurakucho or Fukutoshin) and the map draws your route: ticket gate → passage → exit, rising to street level where you come out. Ikebukuro's hardest part is knowing which gate to leave by, and that is what this shows.
■ The walk after the exit, too
A simplified street map carries on from the exit to your destination, so you don't have to switch to a map app the moment you reach the street.
■ Tips for getting around Ikebukuro
"Seibu is at the EAST exit, Tobu at the WEST", "Underground, walk by exit number", "Two easy meeting points, east and west" — the things that actually stop you getting lost.
■ About the information
Exits and walking times marked "Official" follow each venue's official guidance; everything else is an estimate. Station and exit names follow the signs you'll see on site. Follow those signs first. Street maps are simplified diagrams based on data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Venue names are stated for guidance only and do not imply any affiliation.

What's New in Ikeguchi
2.1.0
October 23, 2026
Now in English. Destinations, walking directions, station tips and the maps all read in English, using the exit and gate names from the station's own signs. New: Guess the Exit — a quick game that matches destinations to exits on the 3D station map. The station screen now looks like Ikebukuro's own signage, and a short sign-lighting animation plays at launch (tap to skip).
