### 2/5 — The game section swipes left too easily

*2026-06-09, version 11.1.0*

When I play some of the games, it’s too easy to accidentally swipe back to the menu, sometimes even from the middle of the screen. I’m not even sure why one needs to swipe backwards from a game. Seems like the back button in the top left is sufficient.

### 2/5 — Not so accessible

*2026-04-30, version 11.1.0*

I have been reading the Statesman since University Days. First saved by my parents and delivered as a care package while I served overseas, then delivered to my front door when I came home. Later to my mailbox. Rates kept inching up, although the overall quality did not. I loyally followed along when we went digital, at least the costs were more aligned with what I was paying for other subscriptions.
Somehow now digital stopped working. The song and Dance I got when queried was I needed to upgrade my iPad to series 17 (whatever that means). Now to access my “paper” I can use my phone (kind of like viewing the world through a tiny periscope). Or go through a multi step process to access the subscription on my iPad. A painful daily exercise that may not be worth the effort.
Gotta say I am getting too old to enjoy the new fangled digital age.
I hope I am still around when subscription renewal comes along next year. I am not sure I can suffer the foolishness of newspaper access gladly.

### 1/5 — App Inop

*2024-06-26, version 10.0.3*

App doesn’t recognize subscription so cant access articles. Waste of money until they get app working. Problems same on iPhone and IPad.

### 1/5 — Where’s the paper?

*2024-05-19, version 10.0.2*

I was unable to navigate through your new layout. Are you trying to get people to go back to the paper version? Total mess.

### 1/5 — Latest “upgrade”a bust

*2024-04-24, version 10*

Change is fine, but it’s supposed to make improvements. This latest upgrade sure doesn’t. Doesn’t load, bottom half of page is covered with an ad. Shouldn’t have to be an IT expert to read the paper.

### 1/5 — Hardly usable

*2024-04-18, version 9.3.4*

App consumes a large amount of storage and does not seem to release it when clear cache is selected. In fact it was using 28 GB of storage when I happened to look. The only solution is to periodically delete the app.

Printing is erratic. Sometimes I get a blank page, sometimes a partial page, sometimes nothing.

Organization of the online edition is horrible. Sometimes sections are completely missing, sometimes just out of place.

### 2/5 — Version 9.2 Keeps Exiting Articles on IPhone 14

*2023-08-09, version 9.2*

Something about the most recent version of this app (9.2 at the time of writing) has made it impossible to read articles. About two weeks ago when it was released, I started having issues.

I’m on IPhone 14, and everytime I click into an article, I have only a few seconds before it kicks me back to the app’s main news page. It may or may not have something to do when the final elements of the page loads in (aka ads), but it’s basically made the app unusable. Which is a shame because I’m paying for a digital subscription and I find their website utterly unfriendly.

I will update this review if they can release a patch or minor version that gets rid of this issue, because otherwise, the app worked rather well.

### 1/5 — Buggy, often to the point of being unusable

*2023-08-09, version 9.2*

The app is often unusable. I open articles and they automatically close back to the Home tab, sometimes immediately and sometimes after several seconds. I reopen the article and hope that I’ll be able to read some more, but often the article auto closes before I can even scroll down the where I left off.

Also, ad placement is often intrusive, often appear in crazy places like between a section header and the first sentence of the section.

### 2/5 — App is glitchy

*2023-08-07, version 9.2*

Navigating the app to find news is nearly impossible. Unless it is one of the four stories on the page, you can’t select a subsection like local or sports. The app will temporarily go to the subsection but immediately go back to the home page. If you choose one of the notifications from your phone, all of the remaining news notifications disappear. Being unable to navigate to the other stories from your notifications is impossible, even if you search for the headline.

### 1/5 — Gone so woke

*2023-08-05, version 9.2*

When I was a kid back in the day everyone had the statesman and it was a great form of news for resource for the state of Idaho. now they are so socialist and have even condemned people who hold religious beliefs. They no longer produce good news and I am very surprised they are still around in a conservative state.

### 1/5 — Frustrated

*2022-08-31, version 9.1.6*

They upgraded app and page of paper floats all over hate the upgrade.

### 1/5 — terrible

*2022-07-29, version 9.1.6*

would give no stars if possible.
smaller page image. forced upgrade for less use !
and the page is smaller to have added banner ad at bottom of screen! yay ! more tracking :-(((

### 1/5 — Banner ad

*2022-07-23, version 9.1.6*

Difficult to read paper in e-edition since recent update added banner ad near bottom of screen. Very annoying. Please remove and get advertising a different way!

### 1/5 — The app doesn’t work

*2022-06-05, version 9.1.5*

I can’t read the news using the app made so that you can read the news. 👎

### 1/5 — Not useful

*2022-05-18, version 9.1.5*

Cannot review any article on the app. Unable to log in and stay logged in. I would rate this app 0⭐️ if I could.

### 1/5 — Only works if you want to be Tracked!

*2022-01-25, version 9.1.5*

If you use private relay the app doesn’t function. Your choice is to let them track you and sell your data or delete the app and use the website. Bad business, do better.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with Private Relay

*2022-01-17, version 9.1.5*

App doesn’t work with Private Rely turned on. Probably because Private Relay prevents tracking. Turn off private relay, and the app works perfect.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on iPhone

*2021-12-04, version 9.1.5*

The Idaho Statesman app works fine in my iPad Pro and used to work on my iPhone 10 until one day when I interrupted a feed fetching operation. Since then I only see an “error fetching feeds” message. Deleting and reinstalling the app or even upgrading to an iPhone 13 did not resolve the problem. I can read the eEdition and receive alerts, but can’t read the articles presented in the alerts. This app is very frustrating.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Biased

*2026-08-07, version 11.1.15*

Biased paper

### 1/5 — Poor format

*2026-04-09, version 11.1.0*

This paper is probably the most poorly formatted and inconsistently performing e-edition paper I’ve ever encountered. I’ve decided to not renew my e subscription due to my frustration level with the clustered never ending ads, the ads that invade the center of an article during reading and page interruptions where the screen reboots mid read.
The response team’s recommendations did not resolve the issue. No need to respond. We will not be renewing subscription.

### 1/5 — Barely worth the subscription price

*2026-04-05, version 11.1.0*

Barely worth taking the trouble to cancel

### 1/5 — Poor format

*2026-03-11, version 11.1.0*

### 1/5 — No stars from a long time subscriber.

*2026-03-06, version 10.4.0*

My iPad is about 10 years old.It works just fine. However, I cannot download iOS 17.0, and the new Statesman app requires 17.0. I will no longer be reading the Statesman.

### 1/5 — Sign in

*2026-03-06, version 11.1.0*

Although I have called several times it continues to be a struggle to sign in to my statesman account.

### 1/5 — terrible

*2026-01-23, version 10.4.0*

would give no stars if possible.
smaller page image. forced upgrade for less use !

### 1/5 — Leans

*2025-04-27, version 10.0.8*

Lib pushing in a Red state. Idaho needs more conservative news station. They would be huge overnight

### 1/5 — Poor performance

*2025-03-08, version 10.0.7*

As of about 2 weeks ago the app will not load random articles on my iPad. Several days ago I received a notice that they were “working on it.” It is very frustrating to not be able to access so much of the content. Not what I paid for!

### 1/5 — Poor performance

*2025-02-16, version 10.0.6*

As of about 2 weeks ago the app will not load random articles on my iPad. Several days ago I received a notice that they were “working on it.” It is very frustrating to not be able to access so much of the content. Not what I paid for!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App Works Well

*2024-03-02, version 9.3.4*

I originally posted a review that said my app would never open unless I deleted and reinstalled it on a daily basis, but it looks like I just needed to power down my iPad every once in awhile. My fault. Not the app’s. Overall, very happy with my digital subscription!

### 5/5 — Unstable app

*2021-10-03, version 9.1.3*

Love the content. Hate the app. Really slow to load and regularly shuts down.

### 5/5 — Not iPad friendly.

*2020-02-01, version 7.5.0*

Need to work on iPad version. Both sign on and reading content. Confusing and frustrating.

### 5/5 — Keeping up

*2019-12-09, version 7.4.1*

I lived in Boise for 22 years before moving to Orlando, Florida for work. It is wonderful keeping up with the town and state I love. Thanks Statesman. You do a great job.

### 4/5 — App

*2021-09-30, version 9.1.3*

Deleting the old cache seemed to help with getting new content. Thanks.

### 4/5 — Crashes every time I open it (fixed)

*2021-09-06, version 9.1.3*

The latest update is completely broken on my phone. Crashes at least 90% of the times I open it.

Update: new version works fine

### 3/5 — Statesman is OK but limited

*2026-04-05, version 11.1.0*

I read the Statesman for local news and local editorials, which are pretty good. NY Times for serious news and commentary.

### 3/5 — Update Is Not Impressive

*2021-08-03, version 9.0*

I had no issues with previous updates; however, this last one has me not using the app much…may consider a different media for Idaho news. No dark mode, am getting double notifications, and “settings” is very limiting.

### 3/5 — Some bugs, further testing needed

*2021-02-04, version 8.0.0*

Some articles open in ALL CAPs. Difficult to read. Article close button is at top left should be on top right (iPad). Overall operation is better, doesn’t freeze like previous version.

### 3/5 — App okay, perspective is biased

*2020-06-16, version 7.8.1*

The app works fine but there is no way I will subscribe when the writers belong in Frisco not Idaho
