### 3/5 — Average App

*2026-05-03, version 2.0.10*

Average App, would be nice to have move feedback info, like usage. It’s very underdeveloped compared to any other digital thermostat aftermarket brands. They are 3rd party and can show more data. I would expect Ideal, considering the own the boiler hardware, to be able to share data info, like daily usage reports, easy. Needs to be updated.

### 3/5 — What’s the temperature of my house?

*2026-01-13, version 2.0.9*

Why oh why is the current temperature not on the front page of the app. Why do I have to search for it every time. Please improve usability - get real people who use this at home to be involved 😩

### 1/5 — Awful awful awful

*2026-01-01, version 2.0.9*

Was with hive for years and when changed boiler after a home extension was told we had to use this.
It’s useless.
It can take 4, 5, 6 goes to actually turn the temperature up. Come out the app & back in, and hey presto nothing happened. It’s a terrible UI.
The boost function is terrible and renders the rest of the app now useless until the boost has finished.
Constantly losing connection with the boiler.
The list of reasons I’d NEVER have another Ideal product, from my experience with this thing, is endless.

### 1/5 — The crappest system - ever

*2025-12-24, version 2.0.9*

Everything about the Halo app (and the bloody awful Ideal boiler for that matter) is rubbish. It is forever knocking us out and saying the passwords are incorrect - when it is not. The app fails regularly to connect to the boiler and regularly fails to pass in temp adjustment instructions.
As for the Ideal boiler - it seems pre-programmed to throw a wobbly and break down at the first sign of cold weather. I always thought Ideal was a reliable brand. I could never ever buy another Ideal boiler - they are only Ideal if you want something unreliable - in which case our Ideal boiler would be great. For anyone else the Ideal boiler and the Halo app are a pos!

### 2/5 — Awful

*2025-12-15, version 2.0.9*

This app needs to be much much better. I have to reinstall it several times as it just stops working. Ideal get your act together so it works with your boilers!!!

### 1/5 — Terrible to use

*2025-12-13, version 2.0.9*

Awful to use, not intuitive. Set up timings schedule and it accepts it and then doesn’t do it. Radiators off when meant to be on. Wish I hadn’t had it

### 1/5 — Waste of Money

*2025-12-04, version 2.0.9*

It just does not work !! Latest EE Router and IPhone 16 and it just will not work.

### 1/5 — Stick to a 7 day thermostat

*2025-11-23, version 2.0.9*

I work a regular shift pattern over 9 days. With my 7 day thermostat I had the different days programmed in & all I had to do was choose which day suited - great.
With Halo you can’t programme in a number of different days & choose which to use. I fed back to Halo & was hopefull of a revision whenever a new version was available- what I needed was a basic change that would bring Halo from useless to functional.
Nothing. No acknowledgement. Nothing. My guess is there is no development of Halo by Ideal, it was bought at a trade show abroad & Ideal has nothing to do with it.
I contemplated changing back to a 7 day thermostat, costing the purchase price of Halo & the re-installation of a 7 day thermostat-£500. Instead I leave the system at 18 degrees & turn it up when I get in.
DONT BUY HALO, it’s useless.

### 1/5 — App beyond bad - avoid this company

*2025-11-19, version 2.0.9*

Scheduling is glitchy and horrible. This is the worst heating system and I’m gutted to have paid for in. Please whatever you do avoid this brand. HIVE are amazing.

### 1/5 — Not fit for purpose

*2025-11-12, version 2.0.9*

App doesn’t work, keeps going offline. Been offline for 3 years. Occasionally goes online. Thermostat is near router and boiler. Gave up using thermostat app and use the thermostat manually. Someone at Ideal needs to solve the problem. I’ve spoken to support numerous times and spent wasted hours each time. Don’t use this!

### 1/5 — No WiFi

*2025-11-09, version 2.0.9*

After using a few with occasional drops in the WiFi connection I changed my broadband provider and have not been able to connect again. The app is rubbish I’m two feet away from the boiler and the router but the app cannot find it

### 1/5 — Abysmal

*2025-11-02, version 2.0.9*

After years of hassle free use of Hive I had to swap to Halo as I had a new boiler fitted.
Almost every time I use the app it says retrying connection and I need to delete it and reinstall.
Rubbish.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t link to device

*2025-10-13, version 2.0.9*

As noted in other reviews, this app does not link to devices, and can’t find an easy way to delete a property either.

### 1/5 — Utter rubbish

*2025-10-10, version 2.0.8*

Not able to connect to anything.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2025-10-09, version 2.0.8*

Connecting to WiFi is impossible, it just keeps spinning.

### 1/5 — Terrible to use

*2025-09-29, version 2.0.8*

After using the brilliant Nest for years, I changed the boiler and was told I needed to use Halo thermostat so it could control it properly. Firstly has to run on AA batteries, no mains power, connection to boiler constantly drops, over 70 times in 3 months. App scheduling is woeful, not sure how it could be designed so badly, all you want to do is set an on time and an off time. Don’t turn on weather compensation as if you do you cannot turn it off again! Finally if you touch the phone screen anywhere when on thermostat mode it turns on override mode with a temperature of 26 degrees. Seems these complaints have gone on since 2023 but no App update to resolve it. Online chat support is useless as eventually they tell you that the tech desk needs to phone you. If you miss their call don’t bother leaving a message as they then send you an email to say the messaging service doesn’t work and directs you back to online chat to start the process all over again. Avoid!

### 2/5 — Love it, love it, love it.

*2025-09-29, version 2.0.8*

Very useful. Any chance of Apple Watch app please?

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-09-24, version 2.0.7*

Cannot connect to home WiFi despite being right next to the router. Says “connecting” and never connects.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bare bones “functionality”

*2026-06-24, version 2.0.11*

Very limited. You can basically set your heating on/off manually or adjust the timer. In a world of digital controls this is pretty basic. For example, what about setting the hot water temperature in the app. Or at least telling me what it’s set to. What about trending data, such as cylinder temperature? Come on you could do so much more!

The more recent update includes new “optimisation” settings which appear to randomly switch your heating on and off in advance of your schedule. Anytime you alter your schedule time or temperature then you risk an optimisation coming in (especially if you don’t answer to say ‘no’ optimisation for example by just closing the app, it defaults to putting an optimisation on).

It’s also frustrating that once you make any manual adjustment to the system. For example to stop it running when it’s randomly come on, you are then unable to alter any of the systems settings without cancelling the override.

All in all an update which just includes extra frustrations. I’m not sure if or how Ideal developers reach out to their user base to see what the users might like, but so far the updates seem like developer ideas rather than improvements that an end user might suggest.

—— Update 23 June 2026.
For about two months now and despite updates the app no longer works to update the timed hot water schedule. So this bare bones app is even less functional. Who actually tests this? Do ideal engage with their customers over the app?

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-06-08, version 2.0.10*

I didn’t think it could be as bad as the reviews but it’s worse than that. I can’t even get it to connect and I’m savvy.
Whoever is responsible for the this should be fired. In this day and age when AI can code almost anything, this is shocking. Does anyone care at Ideal? Your reputation is trash online for this app.

### 1/5 — Dreadful

*2026-06-02, version 2.0.10*

This app is not user friendly. The scheduling is not easy to use and when you have got it set up how you want it, the heating doesn’t come on when it should do. The holiday setting is pointless because you can apply a start date. This has not been designed with the customer in mind.

### 1/5 — Can’t delete account

*2026-04-18, version 2.0.10*

Once you enter your details in the app, there is no option to delete the account after.

### 1/5 — Bare bones “functionality”

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-03-19, version 2.0.10*

Just plain hopeless

### 1/5 — What is going on?!

*2026-03-10, version 2.0.10*

Why won’t the App set the hot water times! It seems almost impossible to get three daily ON settings inputted without the app doing whatever it wants. It won’t switch OFF to ON and seems very confused about running a setting on into the next day.

### 1/5 — They don’t care

*2026-02-18, version 2.0.9*

So I change internet provider and need to update the interface. Four hours later it’s still not happening. Deleted and reinstalled the app. It just stalls at the accept password step. Clearly the useless clowns who put this app together along with Ideal don’t give a damn about customers. These reviews speak volumes snd shame on Ideal. I now remember the mare I had three years ago in initial set up. The nightmare has returned…..

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-01-23, version 2.0.9*

This is probably the worst and most infuriating app I’ve had to use. Had my heat pump installed recently and this was the kit they left me with. Went to install the app and saw the awful reviews and just hoped my experience may be different. Obviously it wasn’t. The app just doesn’t work in any sense of the word. You change settings and it ignores them. You set a schedule for heating and it doesn’t do anything. The front page says that my target temp is 18, I go into my settings and it clearly says Ive set it to 20 for this time but for some reason it’s just ignored that. Even though it says 18 it doesn’t turn the heating on anyway and knows the current room temp is 14. Absolutely infuriating

### 1/5 — No option to upload to phone

*2026-01-15, version 2.0.9*

Useless app that fails on a regular basis. Usually have to remove the app & upload again but now even that option has disappeared & I’m forced to open via the App Store.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Terrible inflexible system

*2026-01-20, version 2.0.9*

I hardly ever score one for a nap, but this is probably one of the worst apps I’ve ever seen. It gives you no flexibility over what you want to do. It gets the system doing things that you don’t want it to do. Let me give you some examples so I don’t want to use any power between four and seven in the evening so I want to use the minimum amount of power from 10 till one and I want to use the maximum amount of power. From octopus cheap times but this does not let me do that in a sensible way it keeps on deciding as I want the temperature at 21 in three hours time it’s going to put the thing on. It’s terrible I could write reams about this it’s just dreadful. It’s going to cost me quite a lot of money. I’d be very happy to talk to the people who developed the whole halo ideal system of managing the heat pump. This does not do it well.

### 5/5 — Good App

*2025-01-01, version 2.0.6*

No problem at all using this with my ideal boiler

### 5/5 — Great smart stat

*2023-10-31, version 2.0.2*

Just updated to work with my 2 zone heating. Absolutely perfect. Can’t recommend enough.

### 5/5 — Brilliant since update

*2023-10-28, version 2.0.2*

Not sure what all negative reviews are about. the app is simple to use and works really well!

### 4/5 — OK, but needs work

*2025-10-17, version 2.0.9*

App works fine for most functions, but when adding another user it falls down. The main user request adding someone else by entering their email address, which sends a request to them to install the App and sign in using this email address. However, once they sign in (by creating a new account) they are prompted to setup as if a new system! What they need to do is spot the red ‘1’ next to the small bell icon and tap this, which then prompts to accept the request to join the existing home. Why this is not front and centre when they log in is a mystery. The developers need to address this or update the invite email to direct them to look for the bell icon and tap it.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2024-11-04, version 2.0.6*

A little clunky to use but overall haven’t had any issues with it. Can control heating setting easily and works when away from the house. Disconnected once but overall I’ve had a pretty good experience.

### 4/5 — Great

*2024-04-16, version 2.0.6*

Great, works well with alexa, just missing apple watch compatibility

### 4/5 — Good app but…

*2024-03-31, version 2.0.5*

On the whole this app is very good. Being able to control the heating at home from anywhere is brilliant. There have been many times in past when we’ve all left the house for the day and unnecessarily left the heating on. Not anymore. It does occasionally kick me out of the app and I have to sign in again. I can’t work out if this is completely random or after a long period of not opening up the app.
I would like the time to be featured on the home page of the app. I know I have the time on my phone, but I want to know that the app/stat/boiler has the correct time too. It’s currently Easter Sunday morning and I have no idea if the stat time has gone forward an hour. I assume it has, but that’s all it is, an assumption. Without physically being at the stat to check, I have no idea. The whole idea of the app is so that you don’t have to physically be at the stat.
Please add the time to the next update.

### 4/5 — Good idea

*2024-03-12, version 2.0.3*

I like this app but it keeps going offline.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2023-12-24, version 2.0.3*

I find the app good, the functionality is good, works well. Bad points it logs you out after so long and you have to type your email and password you can’t use Face ID.
