### 5/5 — Fresh and unique

*2017-02-01, version 3.9*

This shopping list has a very unique and creative UI.
The sharing feature is very convenient, no need to create an account, just send a link and the list is shared.

### 5/5 — Elegant design focused on speed!

*2017-01-17, version 3.8*

Most grocery apps are loaded with "features" that get in the way of the primary purpose of such an app - quick entry of items, and efficient checking off of purchased items. This app has the fastest item entry - via typing or voice - of any app I have tried.

And the developers were really thinking outside the box when they came up with a color-coding scheme for categories (like produce) rather than the usual text-based labelling system. This approach, combined with putting as many items as possible on a given line, means I can see around 20 items on my phone at a time (instead of 5-8 on most other apps) which makes shopping quicker. Oh yeah, and they have a nice Watch companion app which allows you to shop without even pulling out your phone from your pocket or purse.

Sync works well too - so my wife and I can share our lists.

### 5/5 — Best Watch app

*2016-10-06, version 3.6*

Besides being a great app by itself it has the best Apple Watch app for shopping list. Full editing of the lists right from your wrist and looks awesome. Great concept of displaying products and give a separate color to each category.

### 5/5 — Simple, elegant, fast

*2016-05-12, version 3.5*

More apps should follow this dev's approach - do one thing perfectly. Do it fast. Flexible. If you want a grocery shopping list, go no further.
List sharing works perfectly as well.
You can arrange the database to match the layout of your store, or in the order you like to shop.
Brilliant execution of having needed items automatically move to the top of the list (in categorical order), and "checked off" items un-highlight and move off the top.
I've only written a few reviews, for apps that are deserving. This one is a must. Kudos!

### 5/5 — Save time, save headaches

*2016-05-11, version 3.5*

This is a nifty little app for creating shopping lists for any item. I love the different colored name tags also, which help you to find where you left off or better organize. The app also features force touch abilities which allow for editing at any time. The color of each item name also vanishes as you pick up your item and tap it on the list so you can see what you've got. Great way to save time and headaches when shopping. There's also more features for upgrading.

### 5/5 — Great usability with the watch

*2016-05-09, version 3.5*

First I'd like to say that I tried many shopping lists out there. They all seem to be similar. Not this one. The concept of grouping products into color coded categories and the execution of the concept is very refreshing. I've reordered the categories according to the order of the aisles in the supermarket and I was ready. Another great thing about it is the Apple Watch app, this is the most used app on my watch.

### 5/5 — Location reminders!

*2016-04-20, version 3.5*

Okay, this app is just what I was looking for. Drove to the store tonight and up pops the notification and list of items on my watch. I had almost forgotten that I set it up. Now I'm less likely to forget items I need from the store. This is another app that makes having the Apple Watch useful. It's much better notifying me than the phone.

### 5/5 — The shopping list app I've always wanted

*2016-03-29, version 3.5*

I am not a fan of any of the other shopping list apps I've tried. They are too complicated, and try to be everything to everyone.

Idealist is the shopping list app I've always wanted. It is laser focused on providing a simple but powerful user experience. It is so easy to use, and works exactly like a shopping list should. The ability to create categories, the fact that it automatically sorts the list by category, and the fact that it remembers which category to put items into combine to make for a really easy shopping experience.

For example, rather than using categories based on what type of product it is (e.g. meat, fruit, etc), I made categories based on which store I get the item at and which section of the store it's in. So all of the stuff in the freezer aisles of Costco gets grouped together, and I can make sure I check everything off before moving on to another part of the store. Just brilliant!

The Apple Watch app is also really well executed.

### 5/5 — Life saver

*2016-02-18, version 3.4*

I don’t know what I would do without this app! Lately my life has been hectic with work, children, etc and the most annoying thing is when I forget to buy something at the grocery store or forget to bring something but thankfully I found this app. This app makes it extremely easy to make lists of things I need to get at the market and reminds me. If it were’t for this app I would probably have a crying child right now asking for lucky charms.

### 5/5 — Great lists!

*2016-02-04, version 3.4*

This is a simple but effective list tool. Be sure to check the settings as there are some options that are toggled off as a default that I particularly like for example the quantity option

If you really want to make the most of this tool you can upgrade to the full version of the free version meets most of my basic needs

It's very user-friendly easy to use and a great alternative to scribbling on my hand

### 4/5 — Great App

*2016-01-29, version 3.4*

Idealist is the best shopping list app I have ever used. It has a great, easy to use layout and is very simple, which I like. I'm always going to use it when I go shopping from now on. The Apple Watch feature is also nice if you have one. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to make their shopping list on their phone.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2023-07-15*

Used to be great but now it’s just absolute worthless trash. Nothing works. Paid version cannot be restored either. Should be removed from Apple App Store immediately.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2022-12-18, version 3.93*

Used to be great but now it’s just absolute worthless trash. Nothing works. Paid version cannot be restored either. Should be removed from Apple App Store immediately.

### 1/5 — Won't open, lists lost

*2020-12-10, version 3.93*

I had several lists I had created, such as a very important list of needed items for my business. When I went to the store to shop for these listed items the app wouldn't open! It just kept crashing! I stood in the store with a blank stare on my face, I had no idea what I needed without having the list in front of me! This seriously affected the success of my business and set me back by a week. And weeks later still will not open whatsoever. I will never trust this app again. I don't know what I should do, delete it? Reinstall it? I really don't know. It had ONE JOB to do! No offense to the creators, I appreciate their work… But I can't help but say, what a useless app!

### 1/5 — No help from customer service!

*2019-02-25, version 3.93*

I have messaged customer service twice with no response! Could not share original purchase so my husband mistakenly paid for a second app. Now neither seems to work properly. Total of $3.98 wasted with nothing to show for it!

### 1/5 — Help

*2017-08-30, version 3.9*

Nothing works!? Just bought upgrade too. Help! Can't add item. Can't change order. Help!
AND I could only add ONE b4 I had to upgrade! And 'all caps' doesn't work. Whatzup!?

**Developer response:** Hi,
Please email us (contact@idealistshopping.com) to solve the issues. This will be more productive and we'll be able to get a detailed explanation.
The app is working for 40000 other users.
Thanks a lot!

### 1/5 — Liked it a lot, but now. Not.

*2017-07-10, version 3.9*

Was wonderful but now in a hurry to go shopping like many others and can't add an item without upgrading because I need to add a category.

Deleting and finding another app to save time in the future. Yes, the paid version is only $1.99, but then don't offer the free version and tie someone else up later.

Only taking time to post a review because perhaps other people may appreciate this and would like to save time or would like to just buy the paid version ahead of time.

Developers: Please warn user ahead of time that they can't add items to a list without upgrading. Thank you.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback.
However, the app's description on the App Store specifically states that the free version (without the upgrade) is limited to a single list with up to 20 items. This is our way to give an opportunity to see if you like the app and get the upgrade if it really fits your needs.
Have a good day!

### 3/5 — not to my liking

*2019-05-01, version 3.93*

I want to add something as I think about it - not a new list each time I open the App.
it would be nice to have list for different stores
I shop at during the week —

### 3/5 — Online sharing only means email or text

*2015-12-20, version 3.2*

I have a grocery app where I have an account and that account is also on my husband's phone so we share and sync the same lists no matter which of us adds items to the list. I bought the full version of this app hoping for the same type of sharing but this app will only email or text my list to someone else. It looks like a good app if you don't want to share and sync with someone else.

### 4/5 — Good but needs improvement

*2023-03-22*

I would give it 5 stars if there was a way to include quantity of each item or another comment.

### 4/5 — Pretty good list app

*2016-03-15, version 3.4*

I've enjoyed using idealist for the last few months. I especially like the list's auto separation by category and color. There are lots of categories for shopping lists. However, I also keep a running to-do list, but I have to use the color categories that are used for shopping. I would like to see an option to make to do lists. I have my own system using he colors and shopping categories provided, but it could be easier.

### 5/5 — Best in Class

*2018-08-12, version 3.93*

I did a ridiculous amount of research on which grocery app I wanted to replace my Grocery IQ app with, and this one is by far the best. The UI is intuitive and enables you to quickly make lists and use them. You can even keep items for specific stores (like the favorites section of Grocery IQ) so you can check the stock of all your usual items at home while making your list.

It also syncs to my watch and now shopping is almost too easy. (I even pay with my watch when I check out!)

I've emailed the devs to ask about features and they've written back every time within a few hours.

Put all this together and you have a game-changer. I haven't been this excited about an app since my brand new iPhone 3G debuted a new iOS feature called the 'App Store.'

### 5/5 — works perfect! great simple and easy to use

*2017-09-14, version 3.9*

with this app I can really save time and remember all my to dos withouth reaching for the note pad

### 5/5 — Really enjoying the app

*2017-08-20, version 3.9*

This has been a great upgrade and an ingenious interface for making grocery lists in particular. Worth the price for upgrade.

### 5/5 — Where has this app been all my (iPhone) life?

*2017-07-31, version 3.9*

I ran across this app when looking for a shopping list app I can use on my Apple Watch. I am so sorry it took me this long to find it. I updated almost immediately to the paid version, because being able to sync across devices and share lists with my SO is worth it. I love this app and use it all the time. 1.99 is a small price to pay for this amount of organization. It really simplifies my life on the phone and watch. Love it.

### 5/5 — Good grocery app

*2017-05-28, version 3.9*

Easy, simple, get things done!

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2017-04-01, version 3.9*

I created several lists. I use one as a menu and the others for the grocery lists. I wish the list had the ability to use multiple words on one line. Very useful list.

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for using Idealist and for the great review. We'd love to hear from you about the feature you're looking for. Please email us (contact@idealistshopping.com) so that we can discuss this. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2017-03-25, version 3.9*

### 5/5 — !!

*2017-03-21, version 3.9*

Whoever came up with this app! Best grocery app by far I love the many categories stuff is already broken into and being able to customize it all is always good

### 5/5 — Love this app - easy, fast

*2017-03-13, version 3.9*

Dependable, reliable syncing and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

### 5/5 — Update

*2017-02-14, version 3.9*

I keep getting messages that the app is slowing things down and needs to be upgraded. I love the app and hope it will get the attention it needs.
