However the gameplay is a bit boring whenever you play between the stories. I wish it wasn’t just tapping. Each character has such well written stories and personalities, i thought it was gonna be another cliche story where they would just end up putting all the attention to the mc. But this one is different, they all care about their careers and take’s it seriously. I really like how we can start romance with them after finishing the main goal! Its realistic and fun, it reminds me of obey me and mystic messenger which is a peak combination i wouldn’t have ever thought of! Pretty fun game, however.. when you enter the stage it’s a little frustrating increasing the levels for each cards, especially when the coins we use to level up aren’t as much. And don’t even get me started on the cosmic crystals we use to pull for cards, we don’t get enough crystals. What do you mean it costs $99.99 for only 520 cosmic crystals? When the average pull for cards are 120! It’s greedy! The characters appear well designed. The simulated messaging and phone calling is quite well implemented and flows well. The voice acting is phenomenal (to my ears, that don’t understand Japanese), and almost every line is voice acted. If I was rating from that alone, it would be 5 stars. However. The ‘cards’ are very clearly AI generated. Some of the generations are of higher quality and hard to notice, but a lot of them have absolutely abysmal quality, horrible anatomy and mismatched art styles. Also, the amount of time needed to get the materials to get 10 pulls seem ridiculous. There is very little excitement in the presentation of the gacha. The actual gameplay aspect is lacking, and seems to consist of little more than tapping buttons, and is exceptionally boring and bland. There is no gameplay loop, challenge, or interest. In fact, given the quality of the cards, there is no reason to do any of the daily tasks at all. I’ll continue to keep the app in order to listen to the voice acting and read the story, but the game has no value beyond that. (Note: I play in black and white, so it’s possible that the colours present in the game may make it more/less appealing. All you do is tap in this game and nothing else. Aside from the character the art is weird. My only complaint is that Idols of Starlight has a lot of the same tropes as other otome games. I would much prefer if most of the routes didn’t have so much invading personal space as a form of flirtation, for example. That being said, I’d highly recommend! I also love that it’s not like other mobile games that force you to spend money to progress.
