Very helpful to have the audio files for pronunciation (for the first several hundred words). I like that it will occasionally bring back words that were already learned, as a refresher. There's a little funkiness going on with the iCloud connection, which in theory should let me keep apace when using either my iPad or iPhone -- sometimes it seems to work but other times not. Overall this is great. I would like a similar app for homeric greek -- maybe it is in the works???? ### 5/5 — Great app *2013-07-08, version 1.3.1* It has been a few years since I learnt NT greek. This has been a great app to refresh my knowledge. The audio feature is great for pronunciation and the scoring system keeps harder words in view longer, so there's more opportunity to learn. And it is inexpensive. It does the basics well and that's all I can ask for. ### 5/5 — A really helpful app! *2013-02-20, version 1.2.3* I bought this application to help develop my Greek vocab. I've been learning for a few years and have always found grammar easier, so this was my way of honing vocab and extending it. It's been great. You get 50 words of Greek and of Hebrew for free, and it's only £1.49 for all the words of the Greek NT (except for the hapaxes). It helpfully tracks your progress, both as a whole of all the words available, as well as on each term. You start on 50 points on each, get reduction for getting it wrong or not knowing, and then +10points every time you get it right. When it gets to 100 it introduces a new term and only includes the words on 100 occasionally. It's the best money I've spent on learning Greek vocab. I've tried paper flashcards and other things, but this app is really handy, does the tracking work for me, and more importantly helps me learn Greek! Only critique would be lack of pronunciation for the Greek terms (currently just Hebrew). It's not necessary, but it would add a bit extra. I'm looking forward to new vocab packs coming out (e.g. for all the vocab in Mark's Gospel or something). A satisfied customer! ### 5/5 — Great for Language Cross Training. *2013-02-18, version 1.2.3* This isn't the prettiest looking app, but it's extremely effective at its intended purpose, which is to learn Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. It is a fantastic resource for any biblical student interested in beginning to explore the languages of the original texts. It uses proven methods of Neuro-Linguistic Programming to teach vocabulary, which are very effective. Just in two days of use, I've doubled my vocabulary of all 3 languages! Thank you so much for this wonderful app! ### 4/5 — Very useful and effective *2013-01-09, version 1.2.3* This is my favourite app for learning vocabulary for Biblical languages. It introduces words in order of descending frequency, so that you learn the most common words first. As you progress it uses a scoring system to make sure you learn words correctly before introducing new words. Furthermore, words you know well are occasionally brought back into exercises to refresh your long-term memory. If you're serious about learning Greek and Hebrew, this could well be the best app to get. Note, the app is free, but you need to pay for the word lists (£1.49 for each). I think it's worth it, and this gives you the option of only choosing one language if you prefer to pay less. There are a couple of improvements that would raise this app to 5 stars, including seamless iCloud synchronisation between devices (there have been issues with this feature so far). I would also like to see my progress more easily (you can check your progress, but it isn't immediately obvious how to do that). However, the app is effective and certainly worth using. Highly recommended. ### 4/5 — Great app *2013-01-05, version 1.2.2* I love the idea and the fact that it can be used for free at the basic level. I do wish the Hebrew font was larger on the screen, that way it can be used to train with a partner, for quizzing, etc, I contacted customer support this weekend because the app kept crashing on my iPad 2 (solved with a re-install) and they were great! Fast answer via email with hardly any wait. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App no longer works *2014-01-02, version 1.4.1* No longer working after updates. The "I know" button no longer gives the word 100% value. This means you can never complete or "learn" a word and move past it. I never get to the words I don't know because I can't get rid of those I am well familiar with. Even making "right" give a higher percentage I cannot get rid of the words I know. I have it set on including only 1 word from the previous list that I know, but I still get the same list over and over. The app used to work fine prior to the update. Please fix. This was an amazing tool. ### 1/5 — Stopped working *2013-07-28, version 1.3.1* Hey, Lugien? You goin' fix this app? It stopped working after last update. So I then tried to download the free 50 Greek words, and it did the same. So I'm left with no vocab lists, and with $1.99 lost. ### 2/5 — False Impressipns - Caveat Emptor *2014-09-14, version 1.4.1* So im a bit dissapointed to discover that this app requires you to purchase the greek and hebrew vocab cards ( separately, mind you...). It doesnt indicate that fact in the write up (unless i missed it...) -- but left me with the impression that all would be included. Juat a heads up - that adds an extra $4 and two more transactions to the affair. ### 2/5 — In-App purchases *2014-06-19, version 1.4.1* Purchasing extra vocabulary through in-app purchases does not work. ### 2/5 — Has potential *2013-02-20, version 1.2.3* The greek has no audio at all. The hebrew has an "audio" button, but it didn't play anything when I tried it. ### 2/5 — Limited but has potential in future updates *2012-01-25, version 1.0* The app is ok, nothing fantastic but also not horrible. I bought the app for my iPad initially with the Greek New Testament and Hebrew flashcards but the app is going to make me buy them again to get them on my iPhone which I think is ridiculous so heads up all you people who use multiple platforms and make sure you figure out which one you really want. As far as the actual testing goes there is only the flashcard manner of learning. There isn't a multiple choice, reverse multiple choice, quiz, auto shuffle feature, or some of the other niceties that flashcards apps like gFlash offers. Also there isn't any way to add and/or modify cards. Some of the cards are either incorrect or just weird, for instance the Hebrew card yom (יום) has a mystery segol vowel preceding the word, מלך has a ה following it with a sheva under it and an "n" with the spanish looking circumflex accent above it. Also, I should note that there isn't any indication of gender with the Hebrew flashcards. One nice thing though is that the Hebrew verbs do include the qal, niphal, hiphil, and other binyanim verb forms where applicable. ### 3/5 — I almost like it *2014-12-12, version 1.4.1* The audio files are not really clear, I would like it if it included an English phonetic spelling. For that reason I will probably use the app until I learn the free stuff but will not ever buy more. My main plus point is the value for money that takes Greek down to 2 word occurrences and Hebrew down to 5 times. I also like the way it intelligently adds in more words as you learn the more common ones. It has an excellent system that introduces new, rarer words once more common words have been learned. Easily worth $4.
