### 2/5 — Rigged

*2022-12-11, version 5.0*

I don’t know why I keep this app! If I got 4 doubles in a row or just the exact roll to knock me off the board when I’m way behind I’d win, too! Plus, if I need to get back on the board I will roll a dozen times before being able to only for the computer player to get just the number to knock me off again! When the computer player is trying to get back on it will get on with one roll. So rigged.

### 2/5 — Unfair

*2021-12-13, version 5.0*

Love this app and I am a hard core player BUT it is frustrating to see the badly written algorithm - meaning as soon as the app feels like it wants to win there are unusually great number combinations coming up where you have no chance or the other way around you get only bad numbers until the app has put all its pieces in security then you get again a chance to move.
Dear developer - great app but you need to put a bit more efforts into this to make it a fantastic game…..

### 2/5 — Algorithm is rigged

*2021-06-10, version 5.0*

I am a good player and can beat the computer most of the time; however, the game algorithm often rolls a very low-probability combination to get out of a certain defeat - I.e. when only one roll combination will save the computer and beat me, it will do that more often than statistically likely. It’s a shame that so many of these games lack purely random dice rolls.

### 3/5 — Bad for your mental health...

*2021-03-05, version 5.0*

On the positive side the graphics are good and the ergonomics are fine.
I do see one bug, where sometimes it makes your dice disappear as soon as they are rolled (nuke it and restart to fix, it’ll keep the score), but as it shows you where you can move to you can work around it.
The down-side is that it cheats like mad... if only all that effort had been put into making it play well... :-(
You can beat it, as the cheat level seems to vary. If it makes several consecutive 1 in 36 rolls don’t accept any doubles. Try to limit its options.
Just don’t get annoyed when you are massively ahead and 4 out of its next 5 rolls are high doubles. Oh and when you have a counter off the board with 3 in 6 chance free spaces and you get 3 consecutive doubles you can’t use. Every time...
It isn’t a good way to learn how to play for real as it teaches you to be overly defensive to cope with repeated 1 in 1000 roll combos, but will teach you the rules, plus it’s good to beat it...
Any chance of a “no cheating” option?

### 1/5 — The new version is setup game for the computer

*2020-06-20, version 5.0*

I have over 50 years of experience in Backgammon, the first version was really good computer and human players had even chance. With the new version, when you double and computer accepts where no one will accept the double, you know that the game is finished for you. Please make this game to be fair for both party and let the better player to win!

### 2/5 — Please update

*2020-04-02, version 5.0*

REVIEW UPDATE
This a very fun game, but you managed to make me HATE it..
It is 100% cheating..
In all levels 1,2,3, and specially 4
And the worst part is that all the people are writing all those negative reviews and you are doing nothing to update or solve the problem..

Game play: 5 stars
Design: 5 stars
Graphics: 5 stars
Very addictive
Problems:
1-Dice is not fair.. It is so annoying.. I don't mind loosing if it was a fair dice..
2-there are many other game styles that can be added and played.. ( morrocan, blocked, jewish, turkish, russian.....)

### 1/5 — Computer Absolutely Cheats!

*2020-01-12, version 5.0*

What are the odds of rolling doubles 4x in a row repeatedly over back to back games? What are the chances of rolling exactly what is needed to knock my piece off the second I have a single open? I used to like this game, but there is something in the code that makes the computer play off the player’s pieces. It’s not an even rule set. Fix the problem & perhaps add some more custom colors & you have a very nice game.

### 1/5 — Thanks for free game, but......

*2019-10-01, version 5.0*

Great presentation, clean graphics, plays great, but the dice rolls border on the ridiculous!! If you are expert a player enough to overcome the cheating AI, then good on you. I'm not that good, so it just becomes plain annoying. Such a shame, would have got 5 stars bar this major flaw.

### 4/5 — Great game

*2019-07-31, version 5.0*

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. This is a very simple and elegant backgammon game. It works just like it’s supposed to. Oh and by the way, it’s free!

### 2/5 — You’re going to lose in spectacular fashion

*2019-07-10, version 5.0*

The AI will roll doubles multiple times in a row. Current record is right. It will also get amazing rolls that precisely knock you off in an unfortunately predictable manner.

The important thing is to recognize when you have zero chance of winning and either accept that or start over. If you’re looking for something fair, this isn’t it.

### 3/5 — Either there’s a bug or it’s deliberately cheating

*2019-07-08, version 5.0*

There are a lot of complaints here that this game is cheating by giving itself good rolls when it needs them. I’m of the opinion that it’s not cheating, it’s just got that much of an improved game engine that is seems that way. The reality is it is much more difficult to program a game to cheat than it is to just be random and fair, and now that iGammon whips my butt almost the same as XG mobile, I figure it’s just that much better of a learning experience when I play it.

However, it does cheat in another way, or at least it’s a bug. Several times I have gammoned the computer when the cube wasn’t doubled and it only awarded me one point instead of the two I was entitled to. It’s NEVER made this kind of mistake against itself, only to me, and that really is annoying.

It needs a little more customization - you can’t change the board or the color of the checkers - WYSIWYG.

### 1/5 — Biased dice

*2018-12-04, version 5.0*

No matter what the developer says, this app’s “Random” dice roller is anything but. I have tracked hundreds of games and although one cannot absolutely prove non-randomness, I am convinced that the random number generator is biased. Be prepared to be frustrated when you play against the “Computer” and are faced with doubles which pop up by as much as 5 to 1 in favor of the computer. Be careful when you accept a doubling, because quite often, with a frequency greater than would be expected, the computer will roll doubles. This is in addition to the computer rolling countless other dice combinations that are markedly advantageous for the given situation. The developer needs to carefully examine the code and find where the error lies.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — PURE TRASH

*2025-09-06, version 5.0*

This app is so blatantly obvious in it's cheating that it literally makes me laugh. It's also a poor opponent, so you can still beat it - if the cheating doesn't frustrate you too much. Overall, a waste of time and not worth the price ($0). The author of this app should be ashamed of himself.

### 1/5 — Stacked Against You

*2024-08-05, version 5.0*

I’m an excellent player of more than 30 years, but it’s impossible to have a fair chance. The computer seems to always get JUST the right roll combo, or series of doubles when it’s behind, etc. It used to be fun and competitive; now frustrating and unfair.

### 1/5 — Sorry Mairzyd

*2023-03-05, version 5.0*

Sorry pal, but this game is a total fix, and I don’t whine. Just would like to find a game that isn’t fixed more than 75% of the time. Just give me a fair game, not too much to ask for.

### 1/5 — No Chance

*2022-05-30, version 5.0*

If you’re looking for a gammon game that cheats, where you have no chance to win, because all the rolls are stacked in favor of the computer, this is the game for you.

I took 2nd place in the Mississippi Backgammon Championship, but didn’t stand a chance against this cheater.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2021-09-07, version 5.0*

If I could give no stars I would. This game is always in favour of the computer. As soon as I have a single it seems to alway roll to remove it.

### 1/5 — Cheat!

*2021-05-26, version 5.0*

You get to a winning position then your computer opponent (set at the highest “skill”) gets double 6, double 6, double 3 and double 6. I kid you not! The AI cheats to win. This is a shame as it can be a worthy opponent if it didn’t!

### 1/5 — Cheating

*2020-12-28, version 5.0*

I am sure this apps is cheating

Every time i have à single this apps has the appropriate dice to take it out

### 1/5 — Disappointed.

*2020-11-26, version 5.0*

I have to agree that this upgrade is a fail. Gone is the fast and crisp movement. The cues where to move are a pain. No more daily fun with this app.

### 1/5 — Incredibly Annoying!!!

*2020-10-04, version 5.0*

The game is clearly manipulated by the simulator. Bot returns to the board with single roll almost every time even with 3-5 points covered. Player can’t needs multiple shakes even with only one point covered. I get the most doubles when on the bar and they just happen to be covered spots.

I can still win, but only when the bot decides to let me. I’ve played this game hundreds and thousands of times. It isn’t just me wanting to notice bad luck when it rolls my way.

### 1/5 — Still Completely Unplayable!!

*2020-08-15, version 5.0*

I re-visited this game hoping to discover that the makers had read the reviews and sorted out the "lucky" dice throws of the AI. How nieve I was!!

The makers have obviously decided to laugh at anyone who's been stupid enough to ignore the reviews posted here and actually pay money for this rubbish!

I would'd download this even if it were free - as it's completely unplayable!

Pity you are made to rate it at least one star as that is one star more than this garbage deserves - NO STARS!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2025-08-01, version 5.0*

This is uncomplicated easy on the eye and a pleasure to use. There is a plethora of gimmicky trash about . Stick with this 👍

### 5/5 — Still great

*2023-10-30, version 5.0*

I’ve used this for years
Got used to the upgrade
Can’t beat it , no frills 👍

### 5/5 — Great for training

*2022-08-05, version 5.0*

I find this the best backgammon apps for practicing.. clean and simple .. much fun.

### 5/5 — Glad iGammon is still available

*2021-04-07, version 5.0*

I gave iGammon five stars when it was young and allowed you to double beyond 64. It had a clever tutor and graph of expected outcome. The newer interface is also clean and stays out of your way once you get used to it. The complaints of loaded dice are surprising. Remember, 1/36 rolls happen all the time; be prepared!

### 5/5 — Does not cheat - simply tough to beat!

*2020-10-29, version 5.0*

Tom, I think you should update the look. But this game remains a tough competitor irrespective of the look. The suggested moves are nicely done too!!

### 5/5 — Great backgammon app

*2020-09-15, version 5.0*

Just tried it today. Really like it. No complaints on crazy rolls, bad luck... it happens more than most people assume. At the highest level, it’s a tough deep game. I did beat AI at the highest level, but it’s never easy, always challenging . Would like to see mid speed implemented.

### 5/5 — I gammon review

*2019-09-21, version 5.0*

Play it on expert. Only one I cant consistently beat

### 5/5 — Absolutely Brilliant

*2019-06-06, version 5.0*

I can’t tell you how pleased I am about this game.
I played the old iGammon game for years, updated phone and couldn’t play.
I have tried all the others, and have been so frustrated.
Now at last I can play a slick smooth and fast game that plays a match that is so far fair and competitive.
As someone who has played backgammon for over 30 years, I can’t recommend this app enough.
Well done.

### 5/5 — Excellent game

*2018-07-23, version 5.0*

AI plays very well. User interface is very nice as well.

No indication that I can see the game ‘cheats’. If you have done any serious programming, unlike those who are criticizing the game for cheating, you’d know how difficult it is to create a nice user interface and how easy it is to integrate an expert AI from projects such as GNU.

### 5/5 — Nailed it!

*2018-02-16, version 5.0*

Simple and fun! I play backgammon for decades, and MEVER found a iOS game that I liked.
Great design and it really feels like playing against a smart opponent.
