The app doesn’t even show you which station is currently running and requires you to be close to the control box to work. A bit pointless really. How about some smart automation depending upon on location and rainfall? Difficult to perform basic operations like scrolling without changing a timer inadvertently. Limited to only one line watering at a time. Extremely basic timer logic only designed for watering each line sequentially. Allows you to set conflicting watering durations without warning. Frustrating to say the least… ### 1/5 — On/off works but the timer function doesn’t *2023-05-29, version 4.2* Wouldnt recommend. ### 1/5 — Absolute waste of money *2023-03-22* Probably spend more than four hours trying to get the Bluetooth connected on my mobile using this app with no luck reboot it so many times ….I wasted all of that time my first experience on this product, absolutely poor returning items to Bunnings ### 2/5 — Was working well. Not anymore *2023-02-28* I have two Lightsources one had an extension and the other not. Both previously worked. Now can only connect to one and the extension now causes a powerhandling error. I removed the extension and it works ok but still will only connect to one controller. I assume the app can only handle one bluetooth name, but how to change it if can’t even find a 2nd device? ### 1/5 — App n Bluetooth never worked *2023-01-28* This is the worst app I ever seen it never works, it never connected to the Bluetooth I wasted so much time and had to return back. I spent countless time on the Internet and in that website there is no solution not much information don’t waste your time ### 2/5 — Can’t get lights to come on *2023-01-22* Can connect controller to iPhone through Bluetooth, but when adding scene sto get lights to work keep saying cannot connect no lights. Come on at all there are no lights at all when controller is turned on ### 1/5 — How to design an unfriendly app *2022-07-12* Wow. This app is spectacularly bad. Avoid the product because the app is terrible. All I want is something I can click on the Bluetooth tap and set it to run! Clicking on the device does nothing! The developers should just talk to 2 or 3 customers and figure out how they will use this. ### 3/5 — Itching to make this app better! *2022-02-18* Would love to re-dev this app myself. It could be a fair bit better usability wise. Although it does the job when you get used to it, it could be better. Remove zone mgt button. Tapping the Device shd take u there. Remove update button, tapping done shd update the device. Inc validation that the device in range, if not throw an error tell user to move in range. Lose the rolling time change, tapping the time you shd be able to enter time required. There’s prob more, but there’s a few freebies which I’m not charging u for !! 😃😃 ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Taking this back to the shop *2026-02-10* Here’s an idea. Use an app so you can set watering times / zones etc . Sell the device that has an independent clock which is I reckon twice the speed of ordinary time and randomly jumps forward . Result the 3 watering times get missed or if triggered run for a fraction of the time eg 5 mins not 30 that I set . These products are not fit for purpose . I will never buy another Holman product again . Having spent hours setting up irrigation lines I now have to get friends and family to check the plants are watered . It’s in the garden but imagine a fire sprinkler system that just doesn’t work when you get a fire . ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-01-27, version 4.8* Doesn’t do what it says it does. Manual watering only works for 15 seconds then shuts off. Automatic doesn’t appear to work either. App experience is buggy, confusing, poorly executed. I don’t know how they could make this worse than it is ### 1/5 — Waste of money *2026-01-09, version 4.8* The watering app itself is ok, set up the timer with no issues but the actual product is rubbish. The battery pack isn’t waterproof, fills with water when it rains and rusts out the batteries. No point in a product designed for the outside that leaks and fills with water. 🙄 ### 1/5 — Starts and stops *2025-12-09* In manual mode it works well. BX2 turns on the water and it stays on for the specified duration. In automatic mode it starts and stops every 10 seconds. I’ve followed all the debugging instructions, changed the batteries, varied the water pressure, both up and down - all to no avail. Nothing complicated in the system - just a single watering schedule. Frustrating. And doesn’t give and sort of feedback. ### 1/5 — Holman pond lights and controller *2025-09-17, version 4.7* Stay away from this product and manufacturer Absolute rubbish and app doesn’t work correctly ### 1/5 — Not working anymore *2025-08-03, version 4.7* Battery indication level does not go down when batteries are flat. My Holman was not watering at all as batteries were flat and the app still indicates full battery so I had no idea until I checked the lawn for moisture after scheduled watering. ### 1/5 — Stopped working *2025-05-07* It worked for my first bought it, but then I went to move it and now it won’t work and my phone can’t seem to find it any more. All I’m trying to do is do an update but now nothing is working. The older model was a lot better. That’s the blue one. ### 1/5 — Easy to use *2025-04-12, version 4.7* Found it easy to use. However, when in manual mode the valve pulsates by switching on and off every 20 seconds. But works ok in automatic mode. ### 1/5 — Frustrating and disappointing *2024-11-23* Bought a house with a lovely lighting set up. Unable to use it due to the this crappy app and it’s inability to connect to Bluetooth. Yes I have reset my phone and unplugged for 5 minutes as suggested in troubleshooting. Unfortunately once the scheduling has been saved it does not work. The first week was good but since then it self delete’s the scheduling or just doesn’t turn when it a schedule has saved. I have found it easy to connect, name the light run and set intensity. I have had some trouble getting the lights to run on the timers when set. I think the app needs an update to correct this issue. I followed the instructions. It is lighting for a school camp premises and it would be ideal for it to work. The app is also very easy to use. I use 7 controllers in an avocado orchard with 200 trees. ### 5/5 — Works perfectly! *2020-03-08, version 3.0* I purchased the BTX1B Bluetooth water timer despite all the bad reviews and from my experience it was a breeze to set up, working perfectly from the first go. My only suggestion to make it better is for the “Interval” setting to show what date the next water cycle is due to come on. I have it set for every 3 days and I’m never really sure when it will come on next. Otherwise I can’t fault this, and the price is miles cheaper than competitor’s similar products. ### 5/5 — I don’t know why this app got so many poor reviews- ITS GREAT *2019-07-13, version 2.8* I didn’t look at the reviews before I bought the starter kit. When I opened the app I saw all the bad reviews and thought I may have made a mistake buying the product. I’m no wizz with IT but this was so easy to setup and is really functional. Well done Holman! Cheers Steve ### 5/5 — Great controller. Works well. *2019-05-26, version 2.6* I have set up 7 zones out of 8 on my BTX8 controller and they all work great with easy setup. Very happy with it so far and had no glitches as stated in other reviews. The only negative I find is now I have 7 zones it would be nice to be able to name each zone so I can remember what they are for. ### 5/5 — Works well but could do with a little refinement *2019-02-17, version 2.3* Purchased a btx-8 to replace an ancient controller. Super easy setup and instant paring with my iPhone 7. I was able to program all stations without reading the manual, it’s that easy to use. Note as per the manual it will only pair with ONE device as a security measure. My only gripes are 1) you can’t just click a button to manually run the “program” as each station effectively operates as its own program. So if you want to run the whole sequence of stations you must run each station on manual in sequence yourself manually. This is just plain dumb. Obviously programmed by people who’ve never actually had a retic system before. This really needs sorting out. 2) if you want to change the run time for the manual station setting you must actually run the station for the whole time in order to update the controller. For example to set say station 1 to run for 15 mins on manual you must actually run the station for 15 minutes before you can update the controllers without the new run time. Very annoying but fortunately only needs doing once. ### 4/5 — Great hardware, mediocre software *2024-08-30* Update: Holman were very responsive. Within days they have addressed the bug and it is working again. Thank you. …. The garden lights and support are great, but since recent updates, either iOS or the app, the time is no longer shown when trying to set on and off periods for the controlled garden lights. Three dots (…) are displayed – that’s it! As a result, it’s impossible to set switch on and switch off times which is the whole point. The simple app is the only way to control the garden lights. It was easy to set up with the app and works fine. My only complaint is that I am unable to change the zone names. As I get older I find that remembering which zone ( ie 1,2,3 etc) does which area gets harder. Perhaps in the next update you could include the option to change the zone name, eg from 1 to Veges or Grapes etc. many thanks Mark.
