The reason I didn’t give the app 5 stars is that I’d like to have an easier way to get to specific back-issues, like the menu Genii has on their website. I’ve never had a problem, however, with the loading speed of any issue I’ve tried to access. ### 3/5 — Great if all you want to do is read the latest issue *2022-07-19, version 3.6.05* First, kudos to Genii for making all back issues of Genii and Magic Magazine available. It had to have been a monumental undertaking. I enjoy going back to old issues both to read and to reminisce. Unfortunately, even if I leave the app open to the page I was reading, when I come back to the app it defaults to the latest issue, and it’s up to me to remember which year and which issue I was reading. This problem may very well be out of Genii’s hands if they are using a third party to develop the app, but come on guys! It’s 2022! It shouldn’t be an insurmountable hurdle to program the app to remember where you were. 5 stars for providing the content, 2 stars for user-friendliness. ### 4/5 — Almost Perfect *2022-06-23* I appreciate being able to read Genii & Magic on my iPhone. And I just noticed that the app last update was over a year ago??? ### 1/5 — Broken!!! *2019-02-27, version 2.9.37* The app can’t connect to the server to log me in. So currently it’s completely broken. ### 2/5 — Great content, lousy app *2021-04-02, version 3.2.64* The app was recently updated, and, amazingly, almost all of the issues below still apply. In addition, issues of Magic Magazine are no longer listed as expected. This app is badly in need of an update. It frequently doesn’t remember the last issue being read. It doesn’t remember the last page being read when the app is restarted or the issue is reloaded. There are constant nag messages about there being a new issue; if I’m reading an older issue, the assumption should be that I want to continue reading it. Users have no way to pick out older issues without scrolling through many screens each time. There is plenty of screen real estate that is wasted with toolbars that should be hidden most of the time. Users do not need arrows to tell them to scroll to other pages. There are plenty of other UI improvements possible but above are the most obvious to anybody who uses the app for a minute or two. The biggest problem is that all of these issues should have been addressed years ago. ### 2/5 — Pretty bad *2021-02-03, version 2.9.37* I bought a three year digital subscription on the strength of the app. I figured being able to read it on my pad would be convenient and save paper. The app is not fit for purpose. It constantly loses text, leaving you with blank pages then just shuts down, throwing you out. When it does work it is clunky and not an easy read. All inI wish I hadn’t bothered. ### 2/5 — Wonderful magazine but terrible app *2020-12-28, version 2.9.37* Honestly, I love the magazine but the app is not usable. It crashes continously and sometimes the links are broken. Moreover what will happen when my subscription expires? I lose all the content I have bought? They can improve it... Because I travel a lot, the digital edition is more convenient than print. What a shame that the App is so clunky. It’s become unworkable for older Genii issues as it takes too many down swipes to get older issues. The app frequently crashes which returns you to cover of the current mag. Many Magic issues do not load. This app is only tolerable for reading recent issues.
