### 3/5 — Can't keep channel panel open in portrait mode

*2023-06-17*

I wish either the channel names were either listed at the top with horizontal scroll like my Androud client or it would let me keep channel panel open in portrait mode. Without these options, it's difficult to know when new messages have come in and easily switch channels.

**Developer response:** There is a feature you can enable to swipe through channels which you may like. If you swipe left or right in the center of the chat view you'll go through the channels, otherwise, if you swipe from the far left or far right you'll still get to see the channel/user lists.

It's really hard to support what everybody imagines for an IRC client in one single app and especially on a tiny screen compared to desktop.

### 3/5 — Removed Split View support

*2023-01-23, version 2.1.8*

A “modern” app without Split View support? Stage Manager may be used for multi-tasking, but with very limited window sizing options for Igloo. Split View provided better functionality.

**Developer response:** Unfortunately this is an unintended result of a fix for everyone complaining about stage manager not working on iPad. It seems it's one or the other and honestly, stage manager seems way better since you can open many apps, resize, and place igloo wherever you want.

### 2/5 — Keyboard doesn’t work on M2 iPad 12.9

*2022-12-30, version 2.1.7*

The keyboard either doesn’t work or covers up the area you type in. Very frustrating.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2022-12-30, version 2.1.7*

This app does everything I need it to and it saves me from having to fire up my pc to use irc. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I can’t change the location of my downloads or set a new default location.

**Developer response:** I've considered it but it's just too much effort for a super niche thing in the current setup. There is a full rewrite of Igloo that was started a while back that may get released one day, it'll be much easier to implement things like this there.

### 3/5 — Keyboard not showing up on iPad

*2022-12-08, version 2.1.7*

I’ve been looking for a reliable irc tool for iPad, as I’m trying to replace my laptop. I heard good things about Igloo and decided to give the pro version a shot. However, the iPad execution is terrible, as the keyboard is not showing up (it does on iPhone), so it’s almost impossible to type a message on iPad. Update: the developer answered and says he can’t replicate the error. The error occurs when a Bluetooth keyboard is connected to the iPad. Update: the input box is sometimes hidden when the Bluetooth keyboard is connected. I added a star, but there certainly is a bug.

**Developer response:** This is just default iPad behavior. An app has no control of it. Apple decides to hide the virtual keyboard if a physical one is detected unless you specifically click to show the virtual again. It makes sense if you think about it, there's very few reasons for wanting the virtual when you have hardware in front of you.

### 4/5 — Review

*2022-04-20, version 2.1.3*

I have the paid version

### 3/5 — Why no block and report option?

*2021-12-13, version 2.1.2*

Report and block are two important options more so now days with all the psychos in chat rooms. Where are they?.

**Developer response:** Not possible on IRC. This isn't a limitation to Igloo, but IRC in general.

### 3/5 — Images

*2021-10-27, version 2.1.1*

Paid the pro upgrade. Can’t upload images

**Developer response:** Read the error message. It explains it all pretty thoroughly.

### 5/5 — Works great but

*2021-06-26, version 2.0.16*

It works really well. On feature ai wished for free.
If my name is mentioned in a room or chat, I wanted to hear a sound so that I wont miss the conversation when I am little away.

**Developer response:** We'll add this in the next update.

### 5/5 — Best IRC app here

*2021-06-26, version 2.0.16*

Title says it all. This app saved my marriage.

### 3/5 — Upgrade process was unclear

*2021-06-06, version 2.0.13*

So, Igloo is decent as an IRC client. It generally works well. The biggest issue I have, they killed the old Igloo and re-released it. I didn’t get any notice about the change until I fired it up recently, saw a “this app no longer works” notice, and had to find the upgrade directions in the appstore reviews. This could have been clearer.

**Developer response:** We actually sent push notifications and then even notices in the app on launch for over a month which linked to our website news page explaining the whole situation. This was also back in January, so that explains why you probably never saw the notices and such :P

Make sure you follow the steps there to get the free upgrade if you haven't done so already.

### 2/5 — NickServ

*2021-06-05, version 2.0.13*

Bought the whole 6$ upgrade so i could simply login and identify with NickServ and that dose not even work

### 3/5 — It probably works

*2021-05-27, version 2.0.12*

After entering server creds etc it just gives an errot not in channel. /join <channel> same thing. My patience for difficult UX/UI is limited when things are simple and error messages can be more meaningful.

**Developer response:** Error messages are usually set by the server. I'd have to know what channel/network to see if it's an issue with igloo or not.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Inaccessible

*2023-06-21*

Dark Theme should not be a paid feature, as dark backgrounds are a necessity for people with vision issues. Capitalizing on accessibility issues by forcing those who need a dark background to pay for it in order to even test the app - since a white background fails accessibility guidelines - is highly unethical and should be reconsidered.

Any response other than "agreed" by the developer will land this app featured in a case study on unethical UX design to a wide audience on a popular tech publication. Cheers

**Developer response:** The app used to be a fully paid app, the new free version is essentially a demo.

### 1/5 — Worst one

*2022-08-24, version 2.1.5*

Has to be the worst IRC client I’ve ever had the misfortune to use.

### 1/5 — Reposting review since old review was removed

*2022-05-25, version 2.1.4*

Loved the old app and was happy to support it. This version wants me to pay a second time. Developer has been very hostile when asking for help with this.

Update: yep, still the same.

### 1/5 — I paid for this app and expect not to be tracked.

*2022-04-19, version 2.1.3*

With iOS 15’s new App Privacy Report feature, I have discovered that even a paid IRC client will perform data analytics and send logs off to Google’s servers. I expect there to be absolutely no tracking of my app usage when paying for an app such as this. I have since uninstalled this. Those who are privacy conscious: beware! UPDATE: To the developer: Do you want me to process a refund request for your aggressive and hostile reply? You don’t deserve $10.

**Developer response:** An alternative to your stupid review could've been, "can you add an option to disable tracking?" And my answer would've been "yes". Anything that's collected is strictly for crash reports. UPDATE: Yes, please refund. Also, you're aware that Apple without your permission tracks usage and crashes right? You should probably refund your iPhone too.

### 1/5 — Look elsewhere

*2022-03-22, version 2.1.3*

Developer has abandoned the project and seems to have let his personal issues bleed through.

### 1/5 — App lacks support

*2022-01-28, version 2.1.3*

The app developer lacks proper support.

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2022-01-27, version 2.1.3*

Support for this app is non existent and the developer only wants to argue with customers over his own personal issues.

### 1/5 — Forced upgrade with no backup

*2021-03-11, version 2.0.4*

The previous Igloo app was deprecated and replaced by this one. The old app was forcibly disabled, giving you only the option to save your configuration to iCloud. It then instructs you to download this new version, but loading that configuration requires a paid upgrade. What?

Edit: hahaha look at the replies from the developer on other negative reviews. Imagine thinking so highly of yourself that you call your users “stupid” and extorting positive reviews from them in exchange for giving them the app they originally paid for.

The one good thing about this forced upgrade was that it convinced me to never give this developer another cent, because they don’t deserve it.

**Developer response:** If you would've read the notices you'd have known that all previous purchasers get the new app for free, well, all except for you lol.

### 1/5 — They force you even for dark mode to pay, and old good app they broke

*2021-02-08, version 2.0.2*

They force you even for dark mode to pay, and old good app they broke

### 1/5 — Loading settings from the previous app is $6

*2021-02-03, version 2.0.1*

The previous app worked fine. I had paid the $6 for it, and got prompted to install a new one. Then I tried to load my settings from the old one and got told that’s another $6 because that’s a pro feature. No thank you. That’s an awful way to treat the customers who bought the old version. How long might it be before the new app stops working and they try to extract another $6?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-02-21*

This app is a life changer for IRC and me. When I got it, I expected it to be riddled by pay-to-win features, but turns out it wasn’t. There is still a ‘pro’ option, like a typical freemium business, but I can access my IRC of choice easily. When I first opened the app and saw ‘Port, host name, client, invalid certificate, etc.’, I groaned because in the past, those have been confusing and backfired constantly. Not this time. I toggled some switches and googled the hostname and I was good to go. 10/10 would recommend.

### 5/5 — The BEST iOS IRC Client

*2023-06-03*

Igloo is by far the best IRC client for iOS and is worth the purchase. The channel management, straightforward interface, and ZNC support are excellent. Apple unfortunately restricts background network activity which is no fault of Igloo, but it reconnects very quickly. ZNC or another bouncer highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Love when an app just works

*2023-05-21*

Quickest 7 bucks I ever spent on an app to get some dope functionality

**Developer response:** Glad you like it :)

### 5/5 — Best IRC client on ios

*2023-02-20, version 2.1.8*

Use it daily. Connect to a znc bouncer with multiple networks. Worth it!

### 5/5 — kudos, 10/10

*2023-01-31, version 2.1.8*

was looking for an IRC client that can download files and this worked perfectly with a one time payment of $6. compared to other IRC apps on the market, the UI doesn’t look like it’s from 2008.

also loved reading the dev’s response to some silly goofy reviews lol.

**Developer response:** Glad you like the app and the review responses :P

### 5/5 — Best IRC for iOS / iPadOS

*2022-11-08, version 2.1.7*

I’ve tried many IRC clients but this one is by far the best. Well organized, solid features, great ZNC compatibility, and lots of settings. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Best irc app

*2022-07-24, version 2.1.5*

You’ll see!

### 5/5 — best irc client

*2022-01-07, version 2.1.3*

I'm amazed about all the great things inside this app. the themes are nice. I love being able to ask questions to the Dev when I have issues. I can't wait to see more great things from Eskimo.

### 5/5 — Best irc app on the market

*2021-11-25, version 2.1.1*

The best!

### 5/5 — A must have app

*2021-09-15, version 2.1*

Amazing app! The only real IRC on iOS and iPadOS. I honestly think this is even better than my windows based IRC applications. Not only that but the customer service with these guys is extremely good and they are quick to respond to issues. I’m so happy with this app and they’re making it better all the time.

**Developer response:** Hey, we actually gave out promo codes once the new version was launched maybe you didn't use the app for a while to see that popup? Check out iglooirc.com/support and I'll hook you up with a code.
