### 4/5 — Great but lacking in one area

*2026-03-31, version 3.11.1*

Igloo IRC Client is the best that I’ve seen on the App Store! Between the hugely vast configuration of servers to te mostly perfect amount of app configuration, I was hard pressed to find anything I didn’t like about this app. It’s only real flaw to me is the lack of font size selection being capped at 30pt. Capping at 50pt would make it much more usable for low vision users such as myself. Thanks for giving this issue some attention.

### 2/5 — Looks decent but not free

*2026-03-27, version 3.11.1*

The app is responsive looks like it works well but it is not free as the other comment suggests.

### 2/5 — Not what I need

*2025-04-06, version 3.10.5*

Does not send DCC. Could only find how to send images only and it relays through Imgur

### 1/5 — Expensive, deceptive (and nearly unusable)

*2024-12-18*

This app requires a license. You get a free 14 day license, but this should be made clear prior to installation. Not doing so is deceptive and rude. Lifetime license is $20 at the time of writing, subscription is less (but who wants to pay indefinitely for an IRC client?).

The biggest problem and why I said it was nearly unusable in the title is that, through no fault of the developer, you cannot stay connected unless the app has focus and does not go to sleep. You will not receive messages for more than 30 seconds if the app is running in the background or if the screen turns off. For an IRC client, this limitation makes it impractical at best and utterly useless at worst. This is Apple’s fault, not the developer, but it still means the app gets less stars. Lack of functionality is relevant no matter whose fault it is.

If you are going to do nothing but talk in IRC channels the entire time you are connected, and you don’t mind paying heftily for an IRC client, then this is the app for you. Otherwise… use a different device. Oh, and complain to Apple, because their limitation is ridiculous.

**Developer response:** I wouldn't say anything is deceptive, Apple clearly states "in app purchases" next to the button to initially download it and it tells you about the licensing the second you get into the app. $20 one time for an app as feature packed as igloo and is frequently updated is also extremely fair.

As for the background timeout, most people use a bouncer, there's a ton of bouncer services such as irc.xyz or you can self host with znc.in or soju.im (or there's some hosted services using these). But yeah your complaints are both with apple not igloo, so the 1 star is pretty unfair.

### 5/5 — Stable and Solid

*2024-12-17, version 3.8.1*

I’ve been a user since late V1 into V2. While the move to V3 had a few bumps, the developers have been really responsive it getting it almost back to all the features of V2 all the while making it a lot more stable. When I did have an issue with iPad view support very early on in V3, they had a patch out within a day! I’d still like an ignore feature like V2 had, and there’s some wonkiness with the “whois/whowas” with saved conversations that can be a little annoying. But overall, I’ve used a lot of IRC clients for iOS (Turbo, Colloquy, LimeChat, etc), and this has routinely been the most stable and feature-rich among them. I’ve come to consistently rely on it and am grateful it keeps getting better. Thanks!

### 5/5 — I love the active development

*2024-12-09, version 3.7.1*

I love the fact that this app is being actively developed and user requests are considered in future updates.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-12-06, version 3.7*

Dev is very responsive and keeps it well updated. Just hop on the Igloo server if you want to chat with the dev.

### 1/5 — Not free like advertised on app store

*2024-11-30, version 3.7*

Cannot use without subscription.

### 5/5 — Excellent, well-thought-out app

*2024-11-18, version 3.5.2*

To the people complaining about the app's new payment options - literally every other app in the store did the same thing. Developers have to make a living, and the previous system where one paid a small one-time fee for lifetime support simply wasn't viable. I, too, purchased the previous version at five dollars but wasn't averse to paying again. After all, this is really the only good IRC client on iOS.
Make what you will of that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not free, costs $20

*2026-04-28, version 3.11.1*

If it had said it cost $20, I would have considered spending $20 on it. But it said it was free (no indication in description that this needs a license) and then asked for $20. So now if I want to use this I have to get over feeling deceived and then fork over $20

### 1/5 — Dev Needs to take a PR class

*2026-03-18, version 3.11.1*

Their responses to 1-star reviews is alarmingly unpleasant. I had used the free version and am questioning if this is worth $20.

### 1/5 — Didn’t Like the Free Trial Trap

*2025-10-26, version 3.11.1*

I wouldn’t mind adware but I’m not clicking on acting that says “Free Trial” cause we all know what that means.

### 1/5 — Bad attitude

*2025-08-04, version 3.11.1*

I’m an experienced IRC user. I’ve used IceChat in the past, and it did what it was supposed to do … I just stopped using my phone for IRC. Diving back into it, ready to get back on it and I’m seeing reviews. Some of which aren’t bad, some suggest improvements here and there but all are met with attitude-laden responses from the devs.
I’m passing because they’re toxic.

### 1/5 — Can’t connect to under net!

*2025-06-28, version 3.11.1*

Just bought a subscription to connect on undernet but no good!

### 1/5 — IRCv3 CHATHISTORY

*2025-02-21, version 3.10.1*

The developer refuses to implement support for the CHATHISTORY extension meaning history will always be incomplete leading to a sub par experience even with the poorly implemented support for bouncers.

### 1/5 — Dot waste your time with this app.

*2025-02-19, version 3.10.1*

The developer won’t listen to what we want.
I’ve deleted the app and will never use it again.

### 1/5 — Rip Off - Do not buy/download

*2025-01-03, version 3.8.2*

Why the license was not transferred to new version? Greedy developer what used to be lifetime licenses became monthly fee. As excuse given there is lots of work behind coding, we understand but don’t abuse the customers who lifted u up! Now app is trash and forgotten in 2025, karma took care of it !

### 1/5 — Old version was better before dev rug pulled it

*2024-12-31, version 3.8.2*

I use push notifications for IRC highlights, not for the dev to advertise giveaways

### 1/5 — Expensive, deceptive (and nearly unusable)

*2024-12-24, version 3.8.2*

This app requires a license. You get a free 14 day license, but this should be made clear prior to installation. Not doing so is deceptive and rude. Lifetime license is $20 at the time of writing, subscription is less (but who wants to pay indefinitely for an IRC client?).

Edit: the apps functionality and usability is relevant no matter whose fault it is. No one and no thing is above criticism. Professional this apps developer is not.

Thank you for providing further evidence about what kind of person you are. It’s always amusing how the people with the least understanding are the ones most certain they do and the first to accuse everyone else.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best

*2026-05-07, version 3.11.1*

It is the best IRC client for iOS

### 5/5 — A Modern IRC Client

*2026-02-27, version 3.11.1*

Igloo is hands-down the best IRC client on iOS right now. Clean, modern UI, rock-solid support, and many useful features! Worth every penny for anyone serious about mobile IRC.

### 5/5 — Perfect modern IRC client

*2026-02-15, version 3.11.1*

After discovering the iOS client I’ve used for years was no longer available on the app store, I decided to give Igloo a try. Being one week into the trial, I wish I’d discovered Igloo years ago! The client works seamlessly with my bouncer, has a well-organized and minimalistic interface, and has ircv3 capability. Zero problems setting it up and no complaints after using it heavily over the past week. I’m not crazy about subscription models, so I appreciate the one-time purchase option. Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using Igloo, would recommend it without question, and hope it continues to be actively developed for years to come!

### 5/5 — Very few IRCs

*2026-01-26, version 3.11.1*

There are very few IRCs out there supporting modern day devices. I really appreciate the work you do, regardless of whether they’re saying you open a new app every year or whatever.
I understand the need for innovation and I see that you are generous in giving free keys to past users.

5 stars. Good work. Thank you for providing a secure space.

### 5/5 — *UPDATE, all working* Can’t connect to ircnet

*2025-08-28, version 3.11.1*

*thank you for your help, all connected and DCC all working AOK*
And before you say it’s my fault I can connect with another app, unfortunately no dcc with other app. Also it seems I have committed to a free trial, but there’s no note of that in my apple account so I can’t cancel. I hope I don’t get charged.

### 5/5 — Best IRC client on ios

*2025-06-04, version 3.11.1*

Free,Neat and Modern ,Beautiful UI. Review based on 7 irc ios clients.

### 5/5 — Great app with responsive support

*2025-02-14, version 3.10.1*

Really like the app. I usually use irc on PC, but on occasion I only have my iPad. Had a problem and the response was fast and resolved quickly. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Amazing iOS IRC Client – Fast, Reliable, and Feature-Packed

*2025-01-29*

I’ve tried several IRC clients for iOS, and this one stands out as the best! The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to navigate channels and manage multiple servers effortlessly. It connects quickly, stays stable even during long sessions, and supports essential features like push notifications, background connectivity, and customizable themes.

I love how responsive and lightweight it is—perfect for both casual chatting and serious IRC use. The developers clearly put a lot of thought into usability, and the app receives regular updates to keep things running smoothly. If you’re looking for a reliable IRC client for iOS, this is the one to get! Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — BEST MOBILE IRC CLIENT

*2025-01-27, version 3.10.1*

Igloo has been an amazing client for iOS, and is a large part of the reason I participate in IRC again. The new version is great, and I didn’t mind dropping a few bucks for it. Thanks devs :-)

### 5/5 — Missing IRCv3 Chat History

*2024-12-24*

Best IRC client on iOS. All that is missing to be a complete client is a working implementation of IRCv3's Chat History extension.

I would recommend adding optional donation methods once a license has been purchased to fund continued development.
