## What is iHowTo?

iHowTo-Book is an interactive children's book application that enables all children to read a book independently. Unlike other children's books, this application focuses on teaching children the skills of Activities for Daily Living (ADL). It provides natural, calm voices with beautiful original artwork.

“Education for Everyone” is the motto of this application. iHowTo-Book is not only for typically developing children, but also for children with special needs who have difficulties reading books because of the language developmental delay related to circumstances such as English as a Second Language (ASL), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) Learning Disability (LD), or Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger’s Syndrome.

This application creates the opportunity for children to read a book anytime, whether they are at home or outside the home. Each story can be used for parents and teachers to teach children to read a book, follow directions, and identify or label each word receptively and expressively.

Functions:
1. Tap on the speaker icon to hear a whole sentence read aloud
2. Tap on a word box to hear a specific word read aloud
3. Tap on the picture of any object on the screen to hear the object labeled and see image effects
4. Tap on the information icon to show the definition of each word on the page (iPad version only)

Tips:
There will be continuous updates with new iHowToBook stories (hopefully every other week).

*At some point, added functions will include the ability to print pictures through AirPrint and to choose to read the story with no sound or with only the pictures (with no sound + no words).

Your review and comment are very important for us to make an better application. Please leave your review.

## Key features

### 2/5 — Great app but unreliable

*2014-04-30*

I love this app to use with my language kids to teach remembering details & sequential storytelling, but the vacuuming story doesn't work. I have had issues with other stories that I had used previously also. Please fix.

### 4/5 — Good but used to be much better

*2014-01-25*

It's a great idea but it's taking a very long time to get stories back that were lost in past update (there are still only 9 total now).
Also would be nice to either get rid of the annoying whistling bird noises altogether or for us to only have to choose that once, not every time we open a story.

### 4/5 — Nice app

*2013-03-12*

I use this app with a wide variety of students. We start with predicting what steps are needed with each story. Then we hear the story to see what they left out or added. It is good to teach step by step directions & organization of thoughts.

### 3/5 — Ok app, but not great

*2012-12-08*

The app is fine, but there are not many topics and the sound does not work on mine, even with all of the settings turned on.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2012-11-25*

The pictures of stories are poor. Very few stories. This app would be good if it was taken to another level. Families could import their own pictures and stories.

### 5/5 — Great for kids starting to read

*2012-10-14*

My kids love it.

### 4/5 — Like but needs more story to choose from

*2012-10-13*

Like but not enough stories

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2012-05-31*

This is a great app for younger or older kids with disabilities! I love that kids are allowed to hear the story but also have the option of reading on their own and hearing only the words they need by pressing the unknown word. I also like that the animated characters do not look as if they are from an episode of Barney. This feature makes it more age appropriate for older children to use. More stories, please!

### 5/5 — Good

*2012-04-13*

Awesome book really great so cool

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2012-02-18*

Thank you for the creation of this app! Beautiful illustrations, very simple and clear to follow. Look forward to seeing more books added.
