It is part of a series created for jazz musicians of all levels to help them take on specific challenges that any improvising musician will encounter. Each one contains a full explanation of all the concepts and theory involved as well as written and audio examples and exercises. Each app contains JAM-A-longs in all keys with adjustable tempo and control of instrument balance. Each iImprov app also allows you to select the correct transposition for your instrument. iImprov-Modal specifically provides the tools for confidently playing over modal tunes. The main focus of the app is playing over minor modal tunes, however we have also covered playing over 7 sus 4 modal tunes and Major 7#4 tunes. Exercises and JAM-A-longs specific to each of these types of tunes are included. Features- Full explanation of the concepts involved. Detailed theory of note to chord relations and use of modal scales. Detailed theory of how to use pentatonic scales, including how to play “outside.” Audio and visual representation of the related scales. You could get this info for free from the Internet and use the iRealB app as a play along mechanism. Unfortunately very disappointed :( ### 3/5 — Bought nearly all of them *2014-11-19* Bugs. Save your money there are much better apps out there. ### 4/5 — Unique Jazz Experience *2013-05-11* Well designed basic jazz improv tutorial with classic piano bass and drum backing. Interesting blend of theory instruction ear training and jamming. Worth the price if an intro to jazz improvisation is desired. Leaves me yearning for updates. More screen interaction with note and chord changes and midi file output of backup tracks would be excellent editions. Don't expect a basic onscreen keyboard with the app as it stands but that addition with the next update if it ever is released would make it five star ### 5/5 — Very impressive *2013-04-26* This app has more bang for your buck than the low price suggests. After getting through the intro and listening closely to Miles Davis "so what", every scale and except side can to life with the jam-a-longs....
