### 2/5 — Makes me want to SCREAM with anger

*2026-08-15, version 1.70.0*

When it works, it works well. But a bunch of the accessories will randomly refuse to pair, or stop working. Following myriad different troubleshooting steps (including reaching out to ikea) does not resolve. The products / hub / app are just not designed well enough for them to be reliable. INFURIATING. A number of people from IKEA need to be fired over this.

I have placed a shortcut icon on my lock screen, but it rarely responds when I tap it—it only works once in a while.

I tried removing and recreating the shortcut, as well as moving it to a different location, but the problem persists. Even uninstalling and reinstalling the app didn't fix it.

Since shortcuts for other apps are working fine, this seems to be a bug specifically with the IKEA Home smart app. The issue hasn't been resolved even after several app updates, so I would really appreciate it if you could fix this bug as soon as possible.

### 3/5 — Not as practical as it seems

*2026-08-06, version 1.70.0*

Love Ikea however I’m still in two minds when it comes to their home automation products. Very tricky and temperamental system

### 2/5 — Fix Google Home integration

*2026-06-20, version 1.69.0*

The only way to integrate this app with Google Home was to uninstall it. This is unacceptable. The only reason I gave it two stars is because it allows adding other devices to it, if already installed.

### 4/5 — Works great

*2026-05-22, version 1.67.0*

Now supports Matter. Only issue I have is I am unable to restart/reboot the hub when it has an IP address conflict on the network. Only complaint I have and removed one star as a result.

### 4/5 — Patience pays off

*2026-05-12*

Works great! I got my Dirigera hub secondhand, and my first Kajplats bulb with a lamp from the As-is area of my local IKEA warehouse. One small/odd issue I’ve found is that between 60% and 99% brightness, my bulb turns green if I have it set to red. At 100% brightness and at or below 59% it correctly shines red. Not sure if this is weirdness with the bulb or the app. I suspect the bulb.

I didn’t expect the setup process to be without issues considering the provenance of my bridge and bulb, and I wasn’t wrong. Setup took several tries, but did eventually succeed after a bit of repetition and process refinement. My advice to others is a failure doesn’t mean it’s broken or you did anything wrong, it just does that sometimes, even if you get all the steps right. Patience pays off with this equipment.

### 4/5 — Almost Perfect

*2026-05-07*

The app does exactly what it is designed to do very well. I have had no issues. The best smart home design by far, for what it costs. Where it is lacking, though, is functionality. Particularly with the window/door sensor.

The sensors have the ability to visually notify with turning lights on or off, along with app notifications. It is great for those who need visual cues but it is not consistent across all sensors. Water sensors being an example. For people who are hard of hearing, it is somewhat useful but being able to choose the color of the light activation based on the sensor would be much better. It would reduce the need to check the app if you received a lighting cue.

Obviously, people also want to use the door/window sensor to activate threshold lighting when opening a door. The problem lies in the fact they trigger 24/7. As of now, they are not really useful for lighting, as no one wants to turn off lights in the middle of the day every time a door is opened. They need the ability to schedule triggering events like their motion sensors provide. With the default app notification always active, not needing to be scheduled.

A final suggestion would be to also incorporate the use of "Scenes" based on a sensor being triggered. Not that it is usually needed but it would definitely put IKEA in the lead for smart home design.

### 4/5 — Smart Home, Buggy Tech

*2026-05-02, version 1.65.0*

The app is great, but many of the new Matter devices are buggy. Every night when we turn the lights off for bed, my wife’s lamp blasts full bright for 0.1 seconds and it’s very startling and strange. Hope they get this fixed with firmware very soon.

### 3/5 — Pas les mêmes datas

*2026-04-30*

**Developer response:** Hej! Thank you for reaching out! When we enabled Matter, we also changed how to integrate DIRIGERA into other ecosystems. For Zigbee devices please use Matter bridge functionality. Select add product in your target ecosystem app and then scan/copy the code you get when you enable Matter bridge functionality into IKEA Home smart app./IKEA Home smart

### 2/5 — Does not support Google Home - No tech help

*2026-04-29, version 1.65.0*

I have had this set up for around 2 months now, it is notoriously difficult to connect the new remotes and plugs but eventually they connect, however it does not connect to Google home.

The app only lets you generate a code which Google home does not process. I have phoned Ikea support who didn’t know how to fix it. I went into store and an employee had absolutely no idea what I was taking about even though I was showing him video recordings of the app. He took my number for another employee to call me but they never did. There is never anybody in the lighting section to help.

Overall I have 10 around 10 devices connected and controllable in the IKEA Home Smart App but it is not possible to link with Google home (which was a very important feature for me).

### 3/5 — Kajplats turning green when dimming warm colours from 60-99%. Plus Bilresa QR problems

*2026-04-29*

Known issue not fixed for two months: Kajplats bulbs turn green when dimming warm colours from 60-99%. Bilresa is not found in the list either for manual add. The QR code on my box is wrong. You have to lift the back magnetic metal plate to actually find the QR code to add the device.

### 2/5 — Not great

*2026-04-22*

Brought a Grillplats plug and says that it cannot connect. Reset the plug (brand new) a few times and after 10 try I give up lol

### 4/5 — Reliable can be confusing

*2026-04-20, version 1.65.0*

Overall satisfactory. Very stable using only 2.4g band and wpa2.

### 2/5 — glitchy and buggy

*2026-04-17*

the app is ok... i've used better smart bulb apps. it's slow to link, then you click on a fixture and it selects another one. Super glitchy in that way. There are also no option to cycle the colors, like rainbow, or a limited pallet like most other bulbs/apps offer. i've already invested in this system so it's quite disappointing to see such easily fixable problems go unnoticed.

### 2/5 — Not compatible with iOS 26

*2026-04-14, version 1.65.0*

Lightbulbs will not pair through the app for iOS 26 devices. Lower versions of iOS seem to work ok.

### 1/5 — Worst app of all time

*2026-04-04*

Downloaded thinking I could use it to connect to my LED’s as the stupid things required a “steering device” already, and I was very quickly introduced to the fact that in order to connect my LED’s to the app, I needed to make the external purchase of a “hub” in order to pair it, as bluetooth apparently wasn’t sufficient. I thought that buying from a big brand such as IKEA would surely be hassle free and easy, but I was gravely mistaken. I now have the option between a $70 “hub” or a $80 dollar “steering device” thanks to your silly app, and I think i’m going to go with “return” as I seem to be left with no other option. Horrible app, and purchase, waste of time and money. 1 star…

**Developer response:** Hej! Thanks for reaching out. If you only need a remote for your smart IKEA LED bulbs I suggest you to buy a BILRESA remote. /IKEA Home smart

### 1/5 — Matter

**Developer response:** Hej! Thanks for reaching out. IKEA Matter products onboard by scanning the QR code. Go to the + in the top right of the IKEA Home smart app. Choose Add a product, then go to Scan Matter-QR-code and scan the code on the product or the package. Please go to following support link for some guidance: https://faq.ihsdev.homesmart.ikea.net /IKEA Home smart

### 1/5 — Requires Hub

*2026-03-31, version 1.64.0*

Using new IKEA Matter over Thread devices works fine in HomeKit but they’re unable to be simultaneously viewed in the IKEA app without their $100 Hub. Features such as power monitoring in the smart plugs are therefore unable to be accessed. Huge miss.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — FED UP!!!!

*2026-09-02*

The matter implementation is hot garbage. STAY AWAY. The zigbee stuff worked fine but the matter network support is awful, cryptic, works terribly. I have Govee, Meross, Aquara and other matter devices that work fine but IKEAS OWN HUB AND BULBS WONT CONNECT. this is maddening. DUMP IKEA. BOYCOTT UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. Oh and GUESS WHAT? It’s connected just fine to my APPLE HOMEPOD. How about that ikea?!!!!! Your own app stinks but everybody else works. Shameful!! SHAMEFUL!!!!

### 1/5 — Very bad experience

*2026-08-13, version 1.70.0*

I am not recommending IKEA smart products

### 1/5 — Surprisingly unreliable mix of software and hardware

*2026-08-10*

I’ve been using wireless devices for years, having Bluetooth gadgets before it was common and people were familiar with the name. I’ve never had as much difficulty pairing devices as with the 2020’s IKEA products. I’ve tried 5 times to add a switch to my system and it’s failed. But I can add the same device using the Matter standard to my Apple Home app on the first try.

### 1/5 — 4 hours in deep network settings

*2026-08-05*

After 4 hours of resetting networks, a deep dive into network settings, turning off everything but 2.4 gHz, enabling UPnP, eventually with AI help I discovered it’s a known firmware bug for connecting the first ikea matter over thread device. Yikes.

### 1/5 — Hub barely functions

*2026-07-21*

Everything disconnects all the time, plugs show as connected but won’t turn on or off, overall is just a frustrating terrible experience

### 1/5 — Requires Dirigera

*2026-06-20, version 1.69.0*

I’m able to add the air quality sensor motion sensors and smart plugs directly to HomeKit but the ikea home app is useless without buying an extra hub. I have sensors and smart plugs from another brand EVE that works directly with HomeKit and their EVE app to view advanced functions like history of the sensors with out having to by an extra EVE hub.

### 1/5 — Can’t seem to pair remotes

*2026-06-07, version 1.68.0*

This app seems like it's still in beta. It has many issues from the fact that I first added the hub and then, weeks later, was told to remove the hub from the Apple Home integration, only to discover that the process was incredibly annoying and frustrating.

The app is very buggy. For example when you try and add a remote, it finds the product successfully. You scan the QR code and then after you've set it up it pretty much just stays on this screen that says it's time to join your home. You basically have to start over again and again and again and again. You're better off buying Samsung SmartThings or FLIC

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2026-05-16, version 1.66.0*

Horrific. Some vibe coded slop that never works.

### 1/5 — Meh

*2026-05-04*

Interrupt me mid-work? I’ll give a 1 star review. Otherwise app is fine.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Funktioniert

*2026-05-11*

### 5/5 — Brilliant.

*2026-04-07*

From connection to control, it’s brilliant. My experience has been almost faultless.

One request for the developers: when lights are grouped and each set of bulbs has a different brightness level, please adjust the behaviour so the ratios remain constant. It’s very close already.

At the moment, when the brightest lamp in the group reaches 100%, the others don’t hold their relative levels (e.g. 80% or 30%). Instead, they continue increasing to 100% as well, which throws off the balance and means you have to recalibrate the whole room.

Please. Fix that and I’ll be super happy.!!!

### 5/5 — HomeKit support - fixed !

*2026-03-03, version 1.62.0*

Update: my original review is below, but I’m glad to say that eventually the TRADFRI on/off buttons and STYRBAR dimmers got exposed to homekit and I can use them in automations outside of the IKEA ecosystem. e.g. turning on a generic matter light using the IKEA buttons.

Really glad that IKEA added this support and if you’re reading this - thank you ! I will be buying more hardware now I know it works.

——-

Over a year ago I went out and bought a DIRIGERA hub and a bunch of accessories - smart plug for some LED lights, a couple of TRADFRI buttons (shortcut buttons, and on/off) and the lovely STYRBAR dimmer/on/off switches. “Works with Apple HomeKit” said the product info. Well, that’s not quite true… the single-action shortcut button, motion sensor and socket work with homekit, but the TRADFRI on/off buttons do not show up as HomeKit accessories, nor do the STYRBAR dimmers.

So basically half of this stuff has sat in a box for more than a year, because most of my existing lighting is non-IKEA so I need to control it through HomeKit.

I thought maybe by now they would have added support for these accessories, but alas, the latest version as of 05/04/24 still doesnt support it. And they no longer sell these accessories, so I’m betting it never will.

So I’m left with 5 useless bits of e-waste that never got used, and I’m not going to buy any more IKEA home stuff because of this disappointment.

### 5/5 — Stopped working: Can’t turn my lights off/on

*2026-02-25*

Great app for a few years but last few months have had a few glitches resulting in me being unable to control my lights… needing to reboot the hub or even uninstall/reinstall. Do better.

Update: 2nd time in a week that I can’t turn lights on or off … really frustrated

Update: 3rd time in 2 weeks.

### 5/5 — Au top

*2026-02-13*

Vielen Dank, Gabriele

### 5/5 — Nice support

*2026-01-30, version 1.61.0*

Customer support responses very fast!

### 5/5 — My first smart home experience at the end of 2025

*2026-01-05*

I believe I’m jumping in here at the end of IKEA Zigbee era, but I do find it to be an affordable alternative to what’s out there in the non-IKEA smart home ecosystems. I hear rumors of IKEA ditching Zigbee and joining Matter + Thread going forward as soon as next week. Excited to see what’s next, but I’m happy now and it’s good to know that the current devices will be backwards compatible with the next wave of Smart Home technology.

### 5/5 — HomeKit on a budget

*2025-12-28, version 1.60.0*

You dint need to buy expensive eve shutters that are not avalable in all 50 states. Ikea is also rolling out matter support.

### 5/5 — Well designed and easy to use

*2025-12-16*

Quick to setup new devices, simple automation that’s easy to configure, no invasive data collection and the experience has stayed consistent after useful new features are added. The developers are quick to address the rare bug that pops up in new releases.

**Developer response:** Hej! Thank you for reaching out. This is a bug and should have been removed in latest release. Please let us know if it still occurs after latest update. /IKEA Home smart
