Starting with the benefits of using this app, I enjoyed several different aspects. The ability to be able to complete the course on your phone instead of laptop and the ability to complete the course offline was very important for me. Second, I appreciated the interactive storyline and fun activities. Such as the mini quizzes and determining what to do when approaching another boat, a buoy, or overtaking another vehicle, along with the mystery and characters. The mystery of Kalkomoke Island was very good indeed, except for the fact that I had to redo all of the dialogue for almost 30 minutes because I guessed the wrong person at the end of the mystery. In addition, I got stuck doing the fire activity and it took me numerous tries over about a half hour to complete what should’ve taken less than 1 minute. Also, there should’ve been activities regarding the knots and anchors to demonstrate how they worked. Seeing a diagram of how to tie a knot is much more difficult to understand than walking us through the process in an activity. That being said, though a few improvements need to be made, I very much enjoyed completing this course. It was so much better the just doing a regular program. I hope you make more of these mysteries with certain things like a sailing program. Please consider this. Thanks! ### 1/5 — 404 page not found *2026-01-31, version 1.4* Followed way too many steps trying to fix this. App couldn’t verify and send my completed courses to the site for final exam. Cleared cache and cookies. Switched to desktop mode. Tried multiple browsers. “The (stupid) mystery” shows “in progress” with zero direction on what you would need to do to complete it. Although it shows in progress I get the pop up stating I have completed all necessary steps in order to move on to the final exam. When the page loads it shows “404 page not found”. Tells you to contact them but does not provide a number or email to do so. I get it. Sweep at the base of the fire. Make the app work through all chapters on IOS. I don’t care for this style of graphic design at all. It doesn’t look very professional. Do not recommend! ### 1/5 — Avoid this app if possible. *2025-08-05, version 1.2* In the many years of online education and recurrent training, this is by far the worst that I have ever taken. The registration process is misleading and what I would consider misleading at best and a scam at worst. The first pages have no reference to a boater training and resembles an internet game. The course consist of reading a story and ever so often taking a quiz. The state specific regulations and the boating specific knowledge could have been handled in a much better way. This was extremely juvenile. Paying the additional fee for a shorter version was a scam. There was no reason to have to read the stories and their various scenarios which had little to do with boater safety. In the “about” section in the app story it references that it is free. Obviously I can login fine through the online website. So naturally I try resetting the password. Guess what? I recommend go to the website, sign up and buy the course, then download the app! I went with this one because it said its shorter I got to the “fire extinguisher level” and completed it first try and had no issue whatsoever So im not sure about the other reviews But it was easy and taught the rules and law about boating pretty easily so no complaints 5 stars ### 5/5 — Great course *2025-08-21, version 1.3* I admit I was concerned when after paying for the course I was told to download this app. Seeing the 2.5 star reviews was a bit worrisome. However I’m 3/4 through the course and it’s been great! I’ll admit the dialogue can be a bit stuffy but have you tried the original course?? It’s a million times worse. This course is fast paced and a great way to learn the info in a game like setting. The fire extinguisher part everyone is complaining about is too easy to complete. Pull the pin squeeze the handle and touch the nozzle with your finger swiping side to side as the fire gets smaller then goes out. It’s is not rocket science. I think the program is great compared to what else is out there and a fun and easy way to get your license. I would say a lot of the complaints with the extinguisher are invalid they just didn’t pay attention, got frustrated, and gave up. ### 5/5 — Review *2025-08-15, version 1.2* I loved it! They’ve been able to move between the computer and the app on their phones with no issues and it picks up where they left off. Two of my kids have difficulty learning and they both enjoyed the format. My third reads well above grade level and skipped through all the “unnecessary” dialog. It appealed to all the learning types in my family and worked perfectly. I have 2 suggestions: 1. it would be helpful if there was a read aloud version for people who struggle to read. I had to read it all to two of my kids. Their comprehension is great, they just can’t read a lot of the words. 2. State what an acronym stands for the first time it’s used. For example, “VDS” is used but not explained until a short while later. My daughter asked me what I meant and I had to Google it. Not that it’s a big deal, but having it together (acronym and words) helps retain what it stands for. Now, on to the infamous fire extinguisher task. Remember my daughters that I referred to earlier?
