We put a paywall up at the start, and the honest reason was that we did not know how else to pay for it. There are no investors behind Illuminate and no sponsors yet. Every devotional written and every question answered costs real money, and a wall was the only way we could see to keep it running. But the people who need the Word most are very often the ones least able to pay for it, and we could not keep building something that turned them away. So we have taken the leap. The wall is down, and we are trusting God to send the help to sustain it. Some of that help is already here. Readers who subscribe are not really buying features.
