It’s completely unnecessary & very annoying ! ### 2/5 — June 2023 They Killed It ! *2023-09-13* It was a really nice app & featured fabulous deals for past issues, & while I’d had many annoying problems with Zinio, ImagineFX always worked perfectly, until —- This last update, when they changed The presentation format, & it no longer works offline ! That is; all my 200 Magazines are still hidden away in my iPad, but all The covers are Grey Rectangles ( !!! ) I had this same Problem with Zinio & it took many nagging missives & about 6 months for them to finally fix it ! The only way to fix it is by uninstalling and downloading all issues again. I still have ImagineFX issues that I purchased and can’t read. Stay away from this app. Find a different platform for magazines. ### 1/5 — This app is a scam! *2023-04-16* I had a subscription for four three years and inexplicably lost access to a year and a half worth of issues. Customer service from Magazine Direct did absolutely nothing. Their emails were automated as well as their live chat. They also didn’t answer their phone. I tried to purchase the back issues from the Apple App Store and not only did the issues not appear in the app, I lost access to all but four issues from my library. It’s awful because ImagineFX is such a wonderful magazine. So long story short, if you purchase a subscription it won’t work and if you buy the issues separately they still won’t work. ### 1/5 — Expects payment even when subscribed - Fraud *2023-03-11* This app is garbage ### 1/5 — One of the glitchiest apps I have ever used *2022-06-12* I’d love to leave a review regarding the magazine, however, I have not been able to view my digital subscription for this magazine in months. I have had this app for about 3 years now, and it’s never worked quite the way it ‘should’. Even with it as the only running application, it’s prone to freezing and crashing, or crashing on open, or a myriad of other glitches that the website’s helpful direction of ‘reinstall the app’, ‘close all other apps to free system resources’, and of course ‘try restarting your device’ have failed at. Telling me to visit the help section of the app was similarly unhelpful, as I am not allowed to access anything. If the app works for you, then sure, a digital copy of ImagineFX could be a wonderful addition to your life. But make sure the app works before you sign up for a digital subscription or, worse, buy back issues that you will not be able to access on non IOS devices. ### 1/5 — Do not have issues I paid for *2022-01-10, version 6.0.6* My entire 2020 subscription is not available and I paid for it. I have sent NUMEROUS emails with no response. At this point I might play pick and choose on which to get and cancel everything. ### 1/5 — Bad subscription implementation *2021-12-28* Why am I paying for a subscription if each month I get charged than need to pay again for the magazine in app? Something is fundamentally broken here and needs a fix. Also resetting my credentials each month and reinstalling to attempt a fix is a pain and does not work, just adds more issues when trying to redownload old mags and being promoted to pay again for owned magazines… ### 1/5 — Black Friday sale *2021-11-29, version 6.0.6* On the app it said for Black Friday sale you will get 197 digital issues for 29.99. After I paid it only gave me 160 issues and rest of the issues wanted 1.99 each more. I am trying to reach the app developers for have been unsuccessful. ### 2/5 — Great mag, terrible slow app *2021-11-11* Why should it take almost a full minute to load the magazines I paid for? Good grief it’s slow. I miss having downloadable pdf like they had 10 years ago. Why not load out content first, then the store? Please fix it. ### 1/5 — Magazine is great, app is not *2021-04-27, version 6.0.6* I’ve been a fan of ImagineFX for years but since I live in the US and this is a UK magazine I could not afford the subscription. So I was excited to learn there was now a digital subscription available. I purchased it from “My Favorite Magazine.com” in 2020. The first few issues were great and I had no problem downloading all kinds of back issues also. Then after Jan. 2021, the App started charging me for the magazines. I’ve contacted customer service twice, both times receiving the same exact same set of instructions, which tell me to create an account, which I did, relaunch the app, and then They refer to selecting a top lefthand menu button, which isn’t there. The only selectable button is on the right and it does not have the option to “select Magazine direct login” which is what you are to do next. No other response from either company so I’m not sure what to do. Now they are changing from My Favorite Magazines (also connected to My magazines direct?) to “Future”so who will I contact to fix these issues? Seems like the App is buggy, but which company is responsible for fixing it? Who should we contact? None of the parties involved seem to care. Please stay away until these issues are addressed, either from MyFavorite Magazines, or my magazines direct Future or ImagineFX....... ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn't display cover images properly offline *2026-06-04* None of the cover images display properly if you start the app up offline. This makes it very hard to browse your issue collection because every cover is blank. ### 1/5 — This company took 39.99 from me and gave me nothing in return *2024-12-22, version 7.1.1* The magazine is great, but don’t get it from these people. I paid the 39.99 unlock all back issues and it did not work but it did take my money. Contacted them they said they couldn’t help talk to Apple. Apple says talk to them and refused my refund. I’ve emailed this company many times and have rcieced horrible support on this issue. One person said they would look into it but did not hear back, inquired back about it and the whole default response of contact April came back. Bottom line I paid 39.99 got absolutely nothing , can easily prove it, but they refuse to give me what I paid for. There are other ways to get this magazine other than this app that refuses to help. I reported a fraud case on them with Apple but Apple doesn’t want to help anyone either. The only conceivable explanation is that the cretinous charlatans at future publishing despise their own magazines and their readers. Very reproducible hang/crash: complete collection, download every issue, and then close and restart the app, ideally while other apps are running. Likely an inefficient loading algorithm and poor handling of low memory/out of memory conditions. Hangs for minutes or crashes. I’m not Impressed with the lack of support nor the loss of may years of my purchases. Just a follow up I managed to find the problem, I read another article on DNS causing problems with the suggestion to tether to my mobile, I tried this and it worked, now I can access my backlog. I the DNS seems to have cleared up for this particular issue. I'm thinking the negative are just being deleted and the few positive are 11 (!) years old. PLEASE fix the app !!! Now I’m being asked to pay for issues I’m supposed to own. Sent multiple emails and have yet to receive a response. Pick which one to read, easily navigate the pages intuitively, follow embedded links with a tap, and zoom in on features that in a paper magazine would mean digging out a magnifying glass. Since picking up the digital versions of ImagineFX, I rarely pick up my printed copies. Feels like digital was how they were meant to be read all along. ### 5/5 — Amazing *2021-02-10* Great and inspiring magazine, what a wonder for the eyes! ### 5/5 — For Artists of All Levels, parents take note! *2020-07-28* ImagineFX is a fantastic magazine for artists of all levels. I would especially recommend the magazine for parents of developing artists, particularly those whose children show a strong commitment to developing their skills and pursuing a career in art. This would be a fantastic gift for them. The inspiration it provides is itself, alone, worth the subscription, but be assured that their is a lot of valuable training and edification to serve future professionals. I truly wish I’d had access to such a magazine when I was in middle/high school, and definitely in college. Even after 30 years of freelance illustration work, I find something engaging and creatively stimulating in every issue. ### 5/5 — Great contemporary visual art instruction *2019-12-26* mSpectacular picture quality, great articles and even better art. I have the app on both the iPad and iPhone; I was impressed enough with the content on the tiny iPhone SE that this specific app became a huge part of why I chose to purchase an iPad over a Surface. (Imaginefx made a similar app for the Windows store but there wasn’t nearly the same kind of deal available last I’d checked) Well worth the price of admission. ### 5/5 — Love this magazine! *2019-04-09* There’s so much information to help me learn and grow as an artist. I really like reading the interviews and learning about different artists, their field of work and their backgrounds and their creative process.
