It would be great if the developers kept the app updated with paints and with bugs. Many paints available to me are not in the app. The photo library and internet color selection no longer works. There is no way to select colors based on RGB, HEX, or other color classification systems. The developer is unresponsive to these issues. The App Store no longer recognizes that I paid for the full version. Save your money.

Revision: In review of developer comments, the issues described above remain. My installed app says iModelKit Light, but the id6 store (not Apple App Store) says I have the premium plus inventory version. The refresh feature is inactive. Paint charts can be updated but many don’t exist. I’m not going to risk downloading the full version again for $9.99 to have the same problems. The last app update was 7 years ago. Too long. Save your money until the app is rebuilt.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry you are not happy with our App. However, before submitting a review you shoud have contacted us (info@id6.ch) or checked the faq on our website (https://www.id6.ch) so that we could have helped you. We always reply to our users within 24-48 hours.
We regularly post chart updates as well as brand new charts on our website so that your paint catalog can be updated.
You can create a new chart and with "dummy" paints using RGB values and then find equivalences (or even a mix) with other paints.
You can always recover the full release from the App Store located in our App, there is a restore button for that.
We are working on a brand new release of iModelKit to enhance and correct the App. However it takes longer than expected as there have been tremendous changes in Apple Development tools that prevent us from posting updates of older code. The new tools are just becoming stable and well featured enough to meet the needs of a complex app such as iModelKit.

The barcode scanner worked erratically, skipped many colors in the same series that it found others in like ak interactive and reaper. When will you come out with ak interactive real colors?

**Developer response:** We are sorry you encountered issus with our App. The barcode scanner should work properly with the cited paints as we use the standard Apple barcode scanner. However, there are some tricks to know to use it properly such as being in a well lighted environment to scan (the scanner is sensible to contrast and focus). These tricks are available on the help screen of the scanner (tap on the scanner title). You can also contact our support at info@id6.ch as the review is not the best place for support (slow and no privacy). If you need a refund, you have to contact Apple for that as payments are fully manage by them. This appears to be more of a list of catalogs/paints and how to mix them.  Unfortunately I’m looking for substitution charts.  When given an FS number or Italeri number what would be the closest Tamiya bottle and/or spray. My misunderstanding.

**Developer response:** iModelKit does have comparison charts. You just have to select the paint you search the equivalence for to see equivalences for other brands. 
However, the free release only contains the comparison charts that are provided by paint manufacturers. Computed equivalences, that gives at least one equivalence for each colour and brand, are available with the Premium release.

Decent app, but really needs to be updated.  Many colors since the last release, aka MRP that are not listed.  Really hope the devs comeback to this app.

Really useful app with a lot of features. Unfortunately they can be hard to find and aren’t intuitive. 

The help is OK but needs to be flesh out more with better examples. 

The support on the other hand is fantastic! Any time I had a question they answered it straight away (no matter how many times I asked the same thing ☺️).

I fully recommend this app and am looking forward to its upgrade.

I love this app, it’s a great way to control paint and supply inventory. I wish there was a better way to add custom inventories such as tools, and model inventory. I think it would be of great help for those of us who are big scratch builders and 3D printers. App is definitely worth while as is though. Just an old grump who would like more.

Good ideas in general but it is not intuitive, very confusing.
If you want to have an inventory, it will cost you $22!!!
Mostly I would use it for paint stock, and equivalent colour between brands, but I don't get this one. 
Paint mixer is hard to get, how do you change the mix proportions?
I think there is potential for a really good solid app but it's far from being there, and the cost is very high for what it does.

The interface has become more complex as a lot of new features, requested by our users, have been added. It's hard to make complex things simple and we tried (and are still trying) hard to do achieve that goal. Indeed, there are a few things to learn to use the App comfortably. That's why contextual help is available by tapping on each screen title. By the way, to change the mix proportions, there is an up and down arrow on each colour of the mix (you can also pinch to increase/decrease the parts number). We are still working on a number of ways to simplify the App while still adding features. 

To be fair, we have to say that paying for the inventory release also gives a lot of other features such as automatically computed paint equivalences, more mix abilities, no ads... See http://www.id6.ch for a complete listing.

You also have concerns about the App price, especially if you compare it with more general iPhone Apps such as games. You have to be aware that iModelKit is a quality App that is costly to develop in a very small market. We would really like to propose a better price, but id6 is a small company and we have to earn money from our hard work, simply to live. 
  • Our hobby is a small potential market and we all pay the price for it whenever we buy modelling products : simply compare the price of iModelKit with a few paint jars, a quality paintbrush, a model kit, an upgrade set or even a decal sheet
  • Notice that iModelKit has been available for more than 5 years and that upgrades are free
  • The App is fast enough profitable by using equivalences and the mixer (to save paints) and the inventory feature (to save from buying products you already have).

This is a very powerful and useful app, however I did find the initial release of version 2 a little too complex for my liking. The latest update has really improved this aspect and it's now easy and intuitive to navigate through the options. There's also a good help screen that explains all the many functions. The developers are very responsive to feedback making this a "must have" app for scale modellers.

The brand new v2.0 adds a lot of new features which have been requested by our users. Unfortunately, there is not much ways to add features without adding complexity. However, we have corrected the App so that it feels less complex, especially to access the tools. You can also access the help at anytime by taping any screen's title.

You also have concerns about the fact that there are new interstitial ads. I don't like ads either, but it is the only way we can earn some (very little) money with the free release. Unfortunately, banners are not profitable enough because the small modelling market generates far too few traffic. The only way we have to earn a little more money is by the use of interstitial ads. However, the updated release let's you test the App for an hour without these interstitial ads. Afterwards, one comes every 5 minutes. Then you can buy the full release to get rid of ads if you wish.

You might also have concerns about the App price, especially if you compare it with more general iPhone Apps such as games. You have to be aware that iModelKit is a quality App that is costly to develop in a very small market. Sadly on my iPad mini running 18.7.1 the app crashes every time I try to look at pain colours. This makes it useless for my needs as the other features are not required by me.

I just can’t get this to work for me on iPad, though I’ve tried it a number of times

This light version used to be great, after the ‘improvements’, not so much. Pretty much all of it is behind a paywall now, so it’s very limited. Having a paid version is fair enough, but removing stuff that used to be free pisses me off!

Thanks for the reply, but this review is based on my opinion, so if I want to ‘trash’ you, I damn well will!

TLDR.
Simple FACT is, previously, I could pick a colour, and it would show me all the equivalent paints from other manufacturers. That was the sole reason to use the app. Now it only shows a few examples, if any. All the others are only available in the paid version. I just use google now.

You’re obviously quite happy calling me a liar, but why would I go to the trouble of writing this (my only) review if I were making it up?! 
Tell you what, don’t bother replying to this, I’ll just refer you to the last sentence I posted earlier, ‘just use google’.
Btw, because of your replies, I’ve now changed my rating from two stars to one. If zero were possible, you’d get that.

Free version is now awful, borderline unusable. I get that no one works for free, but it's very very very expensive. Not worth more than £1.99 IMHO for what you get (which you can find for free online anyway) not £10!

Telling that our App is "Awful and unusable" is not a constructive approach and doesn't help much. If you have issues with the Free release I encourage you to email our support.

From what I can understand, you seem to mean that the new release have less feature than the old release. If so, you are simply wrong. There are now far more features on the new release than before, even on the free release : we took a special care for that. There are restrictions in the free release but every each one is a brand new feature. You just have to accept that our hard work should be rewarded. 

You also seem to misunderstand what iModelKit really is. You simply can't compare it with web sites that delivers paint equivalences. iModelKit has unique features that can't be found anywhere else : A huge lot of paint references, an efficient paint mixer, a 3D (model kit related) scale computer, special colour pickers for images and camera,... And this is free ! The pay release adds a lot more such as equivalence computing feature which is also unique, the enhanced mixer...

Old one was useful, the upgrade has way too many ads and restrictions.

Edit: ads are ever 20sec! So annoying. still too many video ads. Used to be a good app, would buy the full version but it still has in app purchases, not really a full version. Deleting the free version

The older version had more free items and was more user friendly. This new version offers very little free items and is much more challenging to use. I can't give any stars. I really wish I hadn't moved to the updated version

This used to be the most useful app on the store, for me and 1,000s of other modellers anyway.  Now it's as useful as a chocolate tea pot.  All functionality is gone, even the paint charts and nothing but intrusive ads.

This is not true that you have to pay for features. This is the opposite, there are far more new features now on the free release than before and none have been removed. What makes you wrong is that some new features are, indeed, only available on the pay release. This is especially the case for colour equivalences, there are a lot more of them now in the new release. But you also see a lot of equivalences marked as 'payed release'. This is because we have added a new automatic equivalence computation feature for equivalences not given by manufacturers. But the old equivalences are still there and there are more of these. We have corrected the default filter to show only free equivalences on the free release.

Yes, it is a brand new, rewritten from scratch, release and it may have its issues (though we have been quick to correct these). However it does far more than the previous release (please check http://www.id6.ch for a full description).

Since v2.0, iModelKit have been updated regularly to take constructive remarks into account. Amongst other corrections, it now have a better tools access feature and the free release allows to test the App without interstitial ads for 1 hour. After that, an interstitial ad appears every 5 minutes.

I encourage you to test the App again and write a constructive review back.

My first review was from 2014 and I don't see it here anymore so an updated review would not be amiss.
  I absolutely love this app. I have over six pocket sized note books full of color recipes. I dare say over 800+ colors. From everywhere. Reading an hobby article. New recipe. Find a picture, chase down the recipe using RGB feature. Find the color RGB numbers, make a color chip for it, mix using your favorite brand of paint.
  I try to convert 99.9% of the recipes to Tamiya brand, because they easily available to me, practically foolproof system and very few colors can not be mixed with them.
  Support is fantastic. 
Other companies large and small could learn a lot about customer relations from these people.
  As a suggestion, I asked if they had seen the popularity of craft paints being used by people on YT, and on one of the next updates, several brands were included as options for inclusion. I'd like to think I had something to do with that.
I understand in the near future another update is due and so look forward to that one.
You can not go wrong with this app.

I’m mostly using the application to keep track of my paints.  I noted that they didn’t have any of the Wilder products listed and decided to just shoot them a quick email on a Saturday asking if they planned to include them in the future.  I couldn’t believe it but received a response the next day.

I can’t emphasize enough that it’s clear id6 has the highest regard for customer input and providing the best product of its kind on the market.  Cheers gentlemen!

Obviously a lot of time and effort has gone into this app. Although it took sometime to find my way around using it, it’s well worth the effort!
Every model maker should download it and try it. I eventually paid for the full version. This has to be one of the most useful apps out there. Brilliant!

My previous review: What a brill little app.  Pretty extensive reference - haven't found it lacking yet.

Edited review #2: back to its original utility with those mainstream paints available on the Light version for reference and mixing.

And I'm also sorry to say that you are simply wrong : The free release have 25% more equivalences and have a huge lot more charts than the previous release. It also have a lot more features (we took special care for it). The Pay release have even more equivalences thanks to our brand new and unique features that computes additional equivalences "live" (by level and nearest colour computation). Also you seem to misunderstand what iModelKit is. It is not a simple paint equivalence tool. iModelKit has unique features that can't be found anywhere else : A huge lot of paint references, an efficient paint mixer, a 3D (model kit related) scale computer, special colour pickers for images and camera,... And all of this is for free ! The pay release adds a lot more features such as equivalences computing feature, the enhanced mixer, ...       

Also you seem to misunderstand the differences between releases. I'll let you read the App description on the App Store or you can also have more detailed information on http://www.id6.ch.

This app is a great resource for the scale modeler with it's library of paints that can be cross referenced to the various brands available. Some of the new features like the paint stock list, mixing library, etc., make it a must have!
