WHEN DO I NEED A MOOD DIARY AND TRACKING TOOL?

Mood diary is frequently offered by psychologists and therapists to help us discover facts about ourselves that otherwise slip our attention. You may experience a diagnosed condition like bipolar, OCD, depression, etc. Or you may want to track symptoms of PMS, IMS, PMDD, PPD, or track menstrual cycles. You may have stressful job, like manager reporting to executives or customer facing specialist, which makes you feel exhausted at the end of your long day. You may be on emotional rollercoaster as your partner is making your heart tear apart. Or you may simply be curious to know yourself better. This app may help! Bring your iMoodJournal to your therapist or discuss it with your close friend to maximize its positive impact on your life.

* To get the best out of the app, please keep regular records (preferably 2 – 3 times a day) of your mood with tags and self-portraits for at least 1 – 2 weeks. The Weekly Cycle chart requires several weeks of records to generate meaningful output. We wish you the very best experience with iMoodJournal. ### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2026-08-11, version 4.3.5*

Easy to use, stores historical data and free, best mood app I’ve come across

### 5/5 — Super cool app!

*2025-12-30, version 4.3.5*

Love this app, been using it since 2018 and it’s really nice to see how your mood changes over time and look back at what you were doing. A ‘memories on this day’ feature to see what you were up to in the past would be really cool!

### 4/5 — Any audio recording features?

*2025-12-03, version 4.3.5*

I benefit from this app to identify my moods. With the customizable reminders I can have multiple alarms to force me to pause at any moment and either catch myself from ruminating or just taking a moment for myself. I was wondering if a voice recorder could be added for additional thoughts to be captured or when typing isn’t possible nor convenient? Thanks & keep up the great work!

### 4/5 — Feature Request

*2025-10-16, version 4.3.5*

Is there a chance of a feature to edit the time range in the time of day chart?

### 5/5 — This is the best Mood Tracker

*2025-09-14, version 4.3.5*

This is the best mood tracker on the App Store. I’ve tried them all and keep coming back to this.

It’s incredible that trackers that charge £30-£50 per year don’t come close to the simplicity and power of this app.

The developers should be commended:
1. One off purchase- rare these days. Thank you
2. They’ve kept it going and functional. Much appreciated.
3. The design and function is so well thought through:

This app has the perfect combination of being simple to enter data each day. You simply choose how you’re feeling (on a scale of 1-10) as often as you like. You attach a single image, either from the camera roll or take a photo. I usually take a selfie. It’s very interesting to see how my face has changed over the past 5 years.

The real power is the hashtag feature. You can create as many as you like about anything. Moods, environment, family. Literally anything. Plus you can add a colon after the word to further alter the degree of the variable. Eg:

If I’m feeling 6/10 and I believe that this is related to my workload I can add a hashtag: #workload. If this is particularly onerous I would add: #workload:9 if it’s light i would do #workload:3 this adds endless flexibility and personalisation.

You can then see exactly how your mood is affected by any variable and the degree to which that variable changes.

The app intelligently amalgamates all the data so you can see how your mood Varys over months, days of the week and hours of the day.

This app is incredible. It’s one of my most used and most useful apps.

### 5/5 — Simple & Powerful

*2025-02-19, version 4.2.1*

This app randomly marks my moods based on a chart I created and displays the data in simple charts that give me insight into my mood patterns and how to respond with where I may be in one of those patterns. I know I sound like a paid advertiser, but this simple app has improved my quality of life. Knowledge is power.

### 5/5 — One of the best apps ever made

*2025-01-04, version 4.1.16*

I have been using iMoodJournal since 2012. That’s 13 years. If this tells you anything about an app and how well it works. I highly recommend it!!!

### 5/5 — Essential

*2024-10-19*

This app has been an essential part of tracking my mood. The random reminders for making an entry are an amazing way to get data from all different times of day/night, thereby getting info on all my activities (or lack there of). I can’t praise this app enough. Thank you! I use the collected data and charts every time I meet with my doctor. It’s so useful, to be able to see my mood swings and to be able to show them to my doctor. I’m better at coping when I can see patterns emerging.

### 4/5 — Love iMood!

*2024-09-05, version 4.1.16*

I love this app! I’ve been using it since 2018 to track my mental health. It’s been wonderful to help me understand my natural rhythms through the day, week, and different seasons.

My only complaint is that it seems like it’s no longer being updated, otherwise I’d give it 5 Stars.

### 5/5 — Best app- the simplest ones always are

*2024-08-24, version 4.1.16*

Been using this app since 2019 and have to say, it’s the only journaling app I have been able to keep up with. It’s a one time app purchase leading to perfect mood tracking without added stress of monthly fees. It’s simplistic nature also allows for complete customization that works for you. I set up a template of questions and hashtags that I answer/fill out at least once a day. I always include a picture to capture a moment of reflection to later appreciate where I was, and where I am today. The app is perfect for someone like me who wants to journal but cannot conform to regular pen and paper- this app has been a welcomed addition to my every day routine for years now.
