### 4/5 — Awesome enough to put up with

*2026-07-26, version 3.3.31*

I’ve used Imperfect Foods for years because the food is high-quality, the mission aligns with my values, and I genuinely enjoy the surprises. The whole appeal is getting an interesting assortment of odds and ends, so being slammed by algorithmic monotony feels especially backwards.

The cart is open from Thursday to Sunday evening (not midnight) for a Wednesday delivery. It’s easy for me to miss my chance to make edits. (ADHD?) I often get the default cart which tends to send the samebthings over and over again. At one point, I accumulated over 15 heads of garlic, three at a time. I finally put garlic into the “never send me this” box, only for the algorithm to start sending me tubes of garlic paste instead until i had five. I love garlic. I just do not need an endlessly regenerating garlic supply.

The same thing has happened with cooking oil, chickpeas, and potatoes. I currently have 8 cans of tomato paste. The only reliable way to stop an item is to banish it completely, which means many of my favorite foods now live in grocery prison until I get to the end of the surplus and remember to let them out.

Please add a pause option, item-specific cooldowns, and some kind of smarter automatic rotation. Certain groceries simply should not accumulate this quickly, and the automatic cart should offer more variety instead of repeatedly selecting whatever it chose last time.

I love the service enough to keep using it. I would just prefer that its algorithm be more clever not convert my house into a storehouse for surplus grocery items.

### 2/5 — Customer service?

*2025-10-23, version 3.3.24*

I have been with Imperfect Foods since the founders were in San Francisco, and the headquarters were in Oakland, CA. At that time customer service was excellent. But now I have been trying to reach a human being for months about getting their curated boxes, which I do not want. After I canceled my subscription due to frustration, they emailed me an offer to rejoin, with a link that didn’t work. They were, however able to give me a “How did we do” message, and when I said terrible service, they said “Whoa, that was unexpected!”… still waiting.

### 2/5 — Expensive

*2025-03-26, version 3.3.9*

I love the concept of this app but the food is way more expensive than grocery store programs. It makes no sense. How do you “save” food from the trash but it somehow cost more than normal groceries? I wish I could keep shopping here but it’s literally breaking my bank - even with the 14 day IF+ trial.

### 2/5 — You can’t set food preferences outside a delivery window

*2025-01-28, version 3.3.9*

I set up delivery for weeks when I travel and forget to go to grocery store / forget to shop. I cancel when I’m in town. I WISH I could set food preferences outside of a shopping window. My window is Wednesday - Saturday, I’m frequently packing to travel / traveling during that time. I want to tell you what not to put in my box when I’m opening my box. Please fix this!! I had to cancel my subscription because you keep delivering me foods I hate.

### 3/5 — Not what I expected

*2024-10-24, version 3.3.0*

I’m not so satisfied with this subscription. The food is definitely not more affordable. It’s actually more expensive than buying it in store, portions are hella small and I hate the window of purchase. We should be able to “preorder” some people are too busy to keep up with such a small time frame to pick what you want. ALSO they should track the type of things you order if they’re going to fill your cart for you if you don’t get a chance to edit your cart. I’ve had them for a year because I keep forgetting to cancel, I work 3 jobs and I thought this would make my life easier but it hasn’t.

### 2/5 — Won’t let you turn off marketing motivations

*2024-08-19, version 3.3.0*

App does what you need it to but there is no way to turn off marketing motivations without disabling ALL notifications including your order out for delivery. No one needs to be reminded every three days that there is a referral credit. Stop this abusive notifications and allow people to opt in or out of marketing.

### 5/5 — One of the best moves I’ve made in a while

*2024-07-27, version 3.3.0*

I’ve been ordering now for about a month and EVERYTHING I’ve ordered has been beautiful.
I urge everyone to give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed at all.

### 3/5 — Has gone seriously downhill

*2024-07-24, version 3.2.13*

I’ve had Imperfect deliveries for about 6 years now. They kept my family fed during the pandemic with healthy food more reasonably priced than grocery store deliveries, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
I originally got Imperfect for the original mission statement: produce and other groceries that were too imperfect for stores, but still good. I’d get giant carrots or oddly shaped peppers or broken almonds, things that would be passed over in stores and would end up going to waste. They were all fine except for cosmetic stuff.
Then they merged with Misfits and the quality went way down while the prices went way up. Instead of “imperfect” products at or slightly below grocery store prices, now they were offering “imperfect” products at prices far higher than grocery store prices, and often products that were either already partially spoiled or that spoiled in a day or two.
In addition, they’ve decided it’s the customer’s responsibility to pay their delivery personnel, so tips are added to deliveries.
They do still tend to offer items from new or small businesses that are not available from my local grocery stores, and they have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options, so I’ve kept my membership for now, although I’ve gone from a large box every week to a small box once a month, and I never buy produce from them anymore.
They’ve started pushing a plus option now, offering discounts, which is likely to result in the discount price being the current price. When that happens, that will tip the balance toward spending the extra time to shop at specialty grocery stores.

### 5/5 — Good produce

*2024-07-11, version 3.2.13*

I have very seldom been disappointed with the produce I have received. So pleased with this option to running from store to store to find just what I want. Delivery to my door is wonderful!

### 5/5 — Good deal with good price

*2024-06-17, version 3.2.11*

I have been a member for more than a year, I like the food they have and never disappoint. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2024-06-15, version 3.2.11*

No complaint!

### 5/5 — Fresh and Healthy

*2024-06-13, version 3.2.11*

I had this organic sausage that actually looked like it wasn’t gonna be that good just by the texture of how soft it was but after the sausage was sliced into thin slices (though it was a little difficult to cut through the sausage due to the soft texture) and cooked throughly using virgin olive oil the texture became more whole and ‘sausage like!’ Definitely would eat that sausage again!!

### 5/5 — So many organic options!

*2024-06-12, version 3.2.11*

I am doing all my weekly shopping here and I love it. I would love to see a reminder list on the app so I can open up the app and add items before my cart day arrives.

### 5/5 — Work on the interface

*2024-06-12, version 3.2.11*

It would be helpful to have more product details without having to click on each item. You don’t need so much white space.

### 3/5 — Depends where you live

*2024-06-05, version 3.2.10*

The service works well some places and poorly in others. The app is slow, and sometimes when I go away from the main shopping page it’s not possible to get back without force-closing the app.

I had positive experiences in the Bay Area with the service aside from a couple of late deliveries. There, the delivery folks always followed instructions and were very helpful.

Since I moved to Sacramento, the service has been much worse. The delivery drivers fail to follow instructions about once a month, and I end up on a hunt for my box. Sometimes I find the box, sometimes I don’t. I also have had issues with refrigerated and frozen items not being cold even just an hour post-delivery because they only use one ice pack now no matter how much refrigerated food is in the order. Even non-refrigerated food is suspect now, too—I had 3 lbs. of cherries that arrived with mold on them a few weeks ago along with strawberries that became moldy in less than a single day after delivery. I used to have good experiences working with customer service on the issues, but my most recent experience was very poor, and I’ve canceled my grocery subscription because of it. I do still have a flex subscription I might use for nonperishables someday, but I will never purchase anything requiring refrigeration again because of the misplaced boxes, cooling issues, and failure to follow instructions. I’ve lost too much money from foods gone bad at this point to offset any savings, and it’s not helping the environment at all if I have to throw foods away.

The ginger oat cookies are good. I’ll give them that. I would also generally trust the packaged foods. It’s just such a disappointment after previous positive experiences. Oh well, time to try a different food delivery service.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not using

*2025-10-03, version 3.3.23*

This was a great idea, but I think a horrible execution. I can’t use the app or sign up unless I put my payment method down is weird. I just wanted to check out the website before I did anything. But I also I’ve been hearing a lot of problems where the app just takes the money and buys stuff without consent.

### 1/5 — Imperfect is the perfect name for this really terrible company

*2025-09-07, version 3.3.19*

Ridiculously complicated shopping process, your bank will probably decline the first payment because of course they will, and then when you actually approve the declined payment, Imperfect will still cancel the order that took you an hour and a half to put together on their again, ridiculously complicated system. Will that order be available for some future date? No. It won’t. They responded with some imperfect and inaccurate information about their process, so you can just ignore that and pay attention to the truth I’m telling here.

### 1/5 — Great. Until Misfits Took Over.

*2024-12-25, version 3.3.8*

Items getting more expensive. Now an extra fee for plus membership. And an operations fee. No thanks.

### 1/5 — No need to download it

*2024-11-05, version 3.3.7*

I didn't order anything but they took my money from my card. When I checked there were 10 items that I didn't know or like. I thought it was random but they should randomly choose what they like and let the customer know. I really didn't know it would be this bad. I lost $53 without even realizing it. But I can't get a refund. The service is the worst. I suggest that if anyone is going to order anything here, look carefully. I feel that this app is full of scams.

### 1/5 — Stop asking to turn notifications on

*2024-08-10, version 3.3.0*

I have notifications off on this app. Every time I open this app, it asks to enable notifications. Stop being desperate.

### 1/5 — Bug with the app

*2024-05-03, version 3.2.8*

I been wanting to try this app for so long because it aligns with they way I want to live my life now that finally am at a place to try this I can’t even get past the sign in/register process. Been dealing with this for the last couple of days. I reached out to customer support and was told it’d be fixed within 24 hours. Nope still can’t get logged in. Says I have an account already made and then when trying to sign in with supposed account it says no account found. So which is it? Do I have an account or not?

### 1/5 — Profiting on food waste

*2024-05-03, version 3.2.8*

This app sells itself on the idea of preventing food waste, but their underlying business model involves filling your basket and purchasing groceries for you without you giving final authorization. Yes, you can edit your cart or skip a delivery, but if you forget about the app for a week they’ll use your credit card to send you a box of their choosing, which I’m sure leads to massive food waste for many of their customers.

### 1/5 — Unknown subscription

*2024-04-02, version 3.2.5*

I downloaded the app to check it out and see what it was about and it asked for my credit card information which I assumed was like if if I wanted to buy something off of it, you know it was already in there. They signed me up for a subscription that I did not know aboutand I ended up not liking the produce so I deleted the app and now I’m charged $58 for subscription that I didn’t even sign up for.

### 1/5 — Payment info required PRIOR to shopping

*2024-03-26, version 3.2.5*

Whoever made the decision that customer HAS TO provide ALL their info, including payment info, prior to shopping - was dumb and doesn’t understand consumers.
Ask for zip code and address to check delivery - and show people if you serve their area, and what you got in stock there. That’s all. Has to be simple.
You make me jump through payment hoops and give you my credit card info just for me to see what you have to offer? Is that how farmers market works??
Does every store asks me to give them my credit card in order to enter it and look around?
That’s weird.
You make it hard to look-see = you wouldn’t get new users.

### 1/5 — Poor merger. Recommend that you avoid

*2023-11-15, version 3.2.1*

Imperfect Foods had a merger with Misfits Market some time back, which has caused them to replace their (perfectly usable!) app with Misfit’s and use their delivery schedule. The schedule is fine, I could readjust, but the app is and has been unusable. No number of fixes have addressed the core issue of how bizarrely the app is laid out, and how much of a pain it is to navigate. (Other reviews put it better.) But you can order wine now(?)!

I canceled my service after two years because I was notified my window was changing AGAIN, as the route I live on was being outsourced. They’ll no longer take ice packs or covers for recycling either since it’s a third party handling it. Isn’t that part of the point of reducing carbon footprint?

Incredibly disappointed with the service, as it feels like they’re just trying to sell off what they can. Please avoid, nothing is stable and you’ll just find yourself frustrated.

### 5/5 — Very happy with this wonderful service!

*2026-03-23, version 3.3.27*

Bi-weekly buyer here. I am very happy with the variety, selection, price, but especially overall quality! It is a lot of fun when our box shows up and it feels really good to support such a wonderful mission! If you want to clean up your diet, help stop waste of so many wonderful foods, and do it semi-affordably and very conveniently, this is a great service! It also gets us to try things we normally would not!

### 5/5 — Great produce and products, and great value!

*2026-01-30, version 3.3.25*

We’ve been using Imperfect Foods for years now, brought them through a move with us. « Imperfect » may mean excess inventory, too big, scarred, but they’re all still delicious. As good, and often times better than what I pick out myself at the grocery. The 1 or 2 small issues I’ve ever had were quickly resolved, more than fairly. It helps keep staples like onions, lemons, green onions, avocados, apples and potatoes stocked up at our house and we get to try new products like the seltzer waters and kombucha. Not to mention I was introduced to persimmon with imperfect and LOVE them. Very customizable, great customer service. Love the service!

### 5/5 — Good products

*2025-10-23, version 3.3.24*

I just received my second delivery. It all looks great and tastes of chocolate was delicious. I ordered meats this time and am anxious to try them.

### 5/5 — Happy

*2024-09-25, version 3.3.0*

Most of the produce has been wonderful - great tasting, fresh, ripe, and frankly better than I can usually get in the local store. Thank you for saving this excellent food from the landfill!

### 5/5 — Awesome grocery delivery app

*2024-09-11, version 3.3.0*

I’ve been using Imperfect foods for over 4 years now, the app works very nicely, the customer service has always been above and beyond, I’m very pleased and highly recommend for groceries! I hope they will continue to expand their selection!

### 5/5 — Easy ordering
