### 2/5 — God app but lacks refinement

*2023-12-08, version 2.5*

Good app but can’t transfer routes between I Phone and I Pad as it says it can. Even though it proceeds with the transfer to the other device I can’t find it there. I tried many times but in vain I run the latest iOS 17.1.2 🙁Also distance measurement tool is an awkward to use it zooms out every time you access it and then you need to find your location again and drag the tool there it’s annoying and a bit time consuming.App is quite accurate with the Imray paper charts, which is nice. I would give it more stras if they fix the routes transfers between devices and the distance measurement tool.

### 2/5 — Lacks basic functionality

*2022-09-25*

There is so much missing from this app is difficult to know where to start. Creating a route in a hurry, or easily, which is essential when a course is being given out at the start of a race is practically impossible. The charts don't show the names of buoys and you can't create a route from the list of waypoints. Lazy, ill thought out and basically useless. No evidence that any form of service design has been used here.

### 3/5 — Great app but course to start

*2022-08-13*

Great functionality and visibility on iPhone13.

Specs claim it offers course to steer functionality but I don’t think it does. Can the publisher explain if it exists and how to use it please?

### 1/5 — Does not render

*2021-08-18, version 2.3*

Bought a number of charts and when you zoom in they do not render. Can’t see any detail so useless as is

### 2/5 — Problème de téléchargement

*2021-08-17*

Bonjour,

### 2/5 — Unwieldy

*2021-07-19*

UX needs improvement. But, the biggest downside is the ability to purchase navigational charts for smaller areas. Instead we’re expected to buy an entire series of charts just to access the one we use.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your review. We're currently looking at how the charts may be provided in the future and will take this into account.

### 1/5 — Unable to ‘restore purchases’

*2021-06-05, version 2.3*

I am still unable to ‘restore purchase’ ID10! ID70 worked, however. Inconsistent. Unreliable.

### 1/5 — Watch out!

*2021-05-29*

I bought the Greek Water Pilot hardback and tried to use the attached vouchers to download “free” Charts 60 and 70 for the Eastern Med. The instructions make it look simple: just download and install the App, then “Redeem the voucher code” and “Download the Chart(s)”, except there’s no link to do that and when you explore the App looking for it, sooner or later they trap you into a paid subscription and $45 (tax) later, you have to spend time and effort with Apple to reverse it. It looks and feels less like dishonesty than incompetence, but, in the end, what’s the difference. And then, of course there’s no support but launching an email into the dark. On the whole, A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE.

**Developer response:** Hi, I'm really sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with this. Did you contact support@imray.com for help with this? Please can you get in touch and we can try and work out a solution for you.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-04-24*

I had some charts of the Solent numbered things like C3 and C15.
They are now well out of date. I thought I was buying the modern equivalent but ended up with huge unfolded charts in a plastic folder.
They have a voucher and scratch off pad to download something on your phone. I got to the stage of a message saying ‘success, you can now download charts’, but I have no idea how to do that and it is not explained. Nothing I press seems to do it.
Totally non-user friendly and a waste of money.
Apparently Navionics is what you need.

**Developer response:** Hi, apologies for the delayed response. Sorry that you have had a bad experience, if you would like some guidance on how to download charts please contact us on support@imray.com or take a look at our YouTube tutorials https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClKaAa96Nb0GL9AV5UaaJWg/videos

### 1/5 — Purchased book but can not redeem voucher cod

*2021-03-25*

I have purchased Greece sailing book but can not redeem Navigator app voucher cod - ID60 and ID 70
Very disappointed
Boston

**Developer response:** Hi, apologies for the late response. If this has still not been sorted please can you contact support@imray.com for help to fix this for you?

### 1/5 — V poor login experience

*2020-08-30*

The app is all but unusable as I couldn’t get past the login. In spite of having a previous Imray app, it didn’t recognise or recover my login. Instead I had to register a new account. The password requirements are ridiculous and it was rejected three times because they can’t tell users that it must have a capital, lower case, special character (and probably a haiku and DNA sample). Then it asked for an email confirmation that never arrived (yes, I checked spam). Why can’t they use an Apple login? Why was these even allowed in the App Store? Such a poor experience is unacceptable in this day and age.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your feedback. We are in the process of implementing Apple login at the moment, and I will discuss detailing password requirements with the development team.

### 1/5 — I give up!

*2020-08-04*

I want to do the most basic thing any sailor would want to do: set up a route with a final destination with a way point, so I can calculate the distance from my current position. So I added a destination and a waypoint within a route. I am obviously an idiot, but when I tap distance to, it moves the cursor to some random point on the earth (first time off the west coast of Africa, the second time in the middle of the Sahara). I am obviously very very stupid!

**Developer response:** Hi there, please email us at support@imray.com so that we can help you with this.

### 2/5 — Really Frustrated

*2020-06-01, version 2.2*

UPDATE (01/06/2020) - whilst the review I previously gave about the functionality of the app still holds true, it is refreshing that IMRAY take things seriously.

Their reply as shown below demonstrates they are willing to listen to feedback and in between my initial review and now I had in fact been in e-mail contact with customer services.

They took me seriously, tried to help and offered a very fair gesture to compensate the fact that my subscription had only just renewed which helped to restore my faith.

Maybe future developments and updates will improve the app going forward but in the mean-time full marks to customer service and their paper charts etc.

Got this app in 2019 and subscribed to the charts for my area which is South Coast. I downloaded the relevant charts and it has good resolution with useful features.

However it is not easy to use and I have had issues with it crashing on both an up to date iPad and iPhone. I also downloaded the .PDF user manual but am afraid to say that parts of it simply do not relate to what you see on your screen.

The most frustrating thing is trying to manage routes - you can delete waypoints that you have added in and stored within your waypoint list folder easily enough but adding an existing waypoint to a route that you have already saved is impossible.

I have wasted hours of my time trying to work out how to do this, reading the manual which doesn’t relate to the screen views and have now given up on this app.

Really annoyed as my subscription renewed on 4th May but am so frustrated with it that I have deleted the app from my devices and cancelled my subscription so it won’t renew next year.

Some good features but usability is not intuitive and basically some things just don’t work - back to manual passage plans for me I’m afraid.

Shame as I like their paper charts but it appears the software developers have not thought this app through properly.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-11-06*

Paid the fee and could not download the chart total rip off. Very unsatisfied.

**Developer response:** Hi, Sorry to hear you had trouble with the app. Please can you contact us on support@imray.com so that we can try and help you with this?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t open in iOS 13

*2019-10-12, version 2.0*

Doesn’t even load in iOS 13.1.2 on an 11 Pro. Was a good app, hope it’s fixed soon

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Does not download charts any more

*2026-04-04*

Used to work OK on my old phone. OK to use for planning purposes, and as a simple backup while out sailing.

Upgraded phone, restored purchases, and it does not download the charts I paid for. Gets 3/4 of the way through and crashes. Imray have been bought out recently and it looks like the new owners have broken the server. Going to ask for my money back.

Also old charts have never appeared in the archive for me. As soon as the day comes when the subscription expires ‘bang’ you have no charts. Not something you’d want to happen if you were nightsailing through rocks at midnight (but obvs you wouldn’t be relying on just this app would you?)

### 1/5 — Subscription

*2025-09-12, version 2.7*

I'm having trouble unsubscribing to this app I don't understand or like this app please delete my account and subscription

### 1/5 — Crashes!

*2025-09-11*

I keep on my boat an IPad Mini 3 running IOS 12.5.7, the latest version possible for that device. Navigator was running fine on it but had not been updated for several years. I accessed the App Store, noted that the upgrade was described as “compatible with this device” and ran it.

The update was completed but when I now try to run the app, it briefly shows the logo screen and then returns to the screen showing all apps. I have run reset on the iPad, to delete everything else in order to maximise capacity, and reloaded Navigator but the same thing happens.

Developers, do you have a solution please? I am very disappointed as I had just spent over £40 to purchase charts for a new sailing area. If the update is not actually compatible with this earlier IOS version, it should have not progressed the update, as other apps have on an attempted update.

### 1/5 — Seems more focused on in app purchases than helping the mariner

*2024-05-13*

At a time where all electronic charts are improving in quality - this app seems to focus on cross selling. On an iPad the level of zoom is ridiculously bad and it does not even prevent you from purchasing charts you have purchased. I used to love Imray but frankly they are massively loosing grounds

### 1/5 — Doesn’t even open in iOS 17

*2023-10-11, version 2.5*

Just crashes

### 1/5 — Hopeless

*2023-08-30*

So I paid £45 for non charts and just chat stuff. Then pay extra for charts. Completely unintuitive and hard to use. Taken me ages to simple plot a route. Then all the charts disappear on me for no reason. Waste of money so far.

### 1/5 — Changing phone

*2022-09-11*

After changing my phone non of my subscription charts appear. I have logged out and back, currently there are no charts in the chart store. I have tried to restore the purchase but to no avail.

### 1/5 — Buggy - chart sections don’t join up and has resolution issues

*2022-06-19*

The chart sections don’t join up properly. Some sections on purchased charts appear very high resolution and others as corse bitmaps. I am not sure how safe it would be to use these charts for navigation. I am viewing the charts on a 12.9 M1 iPad Pro, so there is plenty of processing power. It is a shame, because this is very nearly a decent app.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your review. What you have pointed out is a function of raster charting; we only have coverage where we have paper chart coverage and so whilst we mosaic the charts and set them to display at appropriate levels you will always have a boundary between zoom levels. If you have more questions please contact support@imray.com

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2022-05-10, version 2.3*

Couldn’t get the free sample maps to even load. So I just had to delete the app. disappointing as I use the Tides Planner app regularly

### 1/5 — Terrible app. Needs to be sorted

*2022-04-06*

This app is appalling. I’ve tried both the iPad and the iPhone versions. Both have the same problem. Everything works during the registration process, but when logging in the app shuts down. When you tap to reopen, it closes immediately. Come on get this sorted out. Obviously because of this, I cannot review the product itself. It has made my free Imray charts unobtainable. There are a myriad of this type of application out there, far better. Use them. At least they open.

**Developer response:** Hi, apologies for the delayed response and that you had a bad experience with the app. If you would still like to redeem your free charts please contact support@imray.com for help.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So much better

*2020-05-31*

Love this. I’ve had the previous version but this nails it. Thanks for also refreshing my old maps.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your review, really pleased to hear you like the new version!

### 5/5 — Bad update?

*2019-10-30, version 2.2*

Further to my previous review, I have found the old Imray map app working well with ios13 ! The new Imray Navigator app is useless....the nav bar distance off and direction stays at zero wherever the target is moved to, is there any possibility of money back please?
UPDATE 30 Oct.2019, latest update to this app. Has fixed the problem, many thanks to Amy and the team.

### 5/5 — MàJ IOS13

*2019-10-03*

### 5/5 — Navigator M26 map of Split - Croatia

*2017-08-02, version 1.1*

Initially I had a problem but after emailing Tech support - they sorted out the problem and the map and all its functions works very well

### 5/5 — Excellent navigation app

*2017-06-07, version 1.0*

I have tried a number of different apps but this one has the best features by far. And of course excellent, reliable Imray charts

### 4/5 — Warinarigo

*2019-12-19, version 2.2*

I have used this and the tides app for a number of years, and like it a lot as a planning tool purely because I do not have an NMEA or gps input. What I would like to see is reporting in or out points as required by many ports for commercial as well as leisure users.
In the English Channel and Dover strait sectors for reporting would help.
Routes. The ability to save a route as a new name creating a new route from the original where the majority of waypoints can be reused quickly.
The tides facility bottom left does not appear to work as one would expect when planning. It does not show the planned date and time and when + or - tabs are tapped it does not show the time advance or retard as it does in the tides app currents.
I have noticed once or twice where a waypoint previously created is move to new location the lat/long are incorrect. So I would advise cross checking with the cursor to make doubly sure that the coordinates being shown concur. It saves surprises whilst navigating.
I have an issue with the distance measuring tool. Whilst planning you have to go looking for it and moving both from and to to the location you are working in. Would like it to pop up either side of the cursors current position. Ready for instant use.
Kind regards.

### 4/5 — Great aid to safety

*2019-10-22*

On my 2nd year of use. I use this all the time while coastal sailing. Easy to use and the tidal app that goes with it is very good as well. Sure there have been a couple of bugs at times a while ago when new versions are being released, but the support has been very good and fixes prompt. The support team even added a couple of features that I suggested would be useful. I will be renewing next year.

Update: like others here I suffered the hassle with the IOS13.x.x updates that recently came in quick succession. Imray support seemed to respond quickly and I am now back working again. Just one more small issue that I can see to fix, which I expect will be cleared very soon.

**Developer response:** Many thanks for the review and for your loyalty! We hope to continue to make the app even better so do send further feedback anytime you'd like. Best wishes from the Imray team.

### 4/5 — A Great Navigational Aid

*2018-09-26*

After using this app for a year from Dover to Cape Wrath and the western isles I can only say how reassuring it has been to have and use when the main plotter has locked up or the visibility has closed in or when you just want a quick confirmation of your position. When used in conjunction with Imray’s Tidal app it has provided accurate information to plan and navigate successfully the Corrywrechen, Sound of Luing or the Doris Mohr and more at springs and neaps. It took a good while to fully comprehend its workings for this OAP but it has all fallen into place now. I used ENC’s for 20 years before retiring and though they were all singing, all dancing, now find this Imray app refreshingly simple to use. I highly recommend it.

**Developer response:** Many thanks for the lovely review! Please do let us know if there are any improvements we can make and we’ll add them to the list.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2018-07-28*

At this price for all these raster charts and ability to display AIS data, why would anyone not buy this. Seamless chart movement is a major plus over previous version. Loses one star because the boat icon and menu text and icons are still too small. (Second review as first one did not seem to upload.)

**Developer response:** Thanks for the nice review and the helpful feedback. We'll do some work on the icons and text sizes over the quieter winter period.

### 3/5 — Clunky! Neither one thing or the other.

*2023-05-02*

This app is not a chartplotter as many of the reviewers on here seem to have expected. Better to think of it as a folio of charts that are overlaid on each other. I like Imray’s charts and their pilot books and I appreciate being able to view the charts on a 12.9 inch iPad screen.

However, there are too many glitches for this app to properly deliver a good user experience. Help within the app is limited. I had to go to the website FAQ to solve some display issues.

Most importantly from a navigation point of view, the important notes on regular printed charts are not available, so information on restricted areas or issues where more information is required, simply aren’t available. It’s not acceptable to say that I should go and buy the paper charts as well when everything is shifting to digital.

Where other charting providers are working to provide fully integrated solutions, Imray’s priority seems to be how to digitise their existing paper assets as a rearguard action to protect their revenue.

I rely on the Imray Tides app almost to the exclusion of all else, but whoever planned the rest of their digital offering doesn’t seem to have done so from a real world user’s perspective.
